Merry Christmas and more...

KT Winner

The winner of our Holly Joy Mini Table Treat is (drum roll, please):

Bonnie58 - Love the toppers. It is never too late to start a project for Xmas. If I don't finish it this year, it will be done for next year!
Thanks to everyone who commented. Watch for more end of year cleaning-out-the-bins-and-baskets-giveaways later this week. Robert and I are off for a couple days to finish up our Christmas shopping and soak up the holiday spirit.

If anyone knows how to block comments from unwanted people, please, please, let me know. I've deleted them as fast as I can, but they just keep coming back. So frustrating. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Christmas Fun

I have a Christmas project going all year long. I enjoy stitching on Christmas projects while watching sappy Hallmark movies and drinking hot cocoa in the light of the tree, even if I know it won't be completed this holiday season. Here are a few of my favorite Christmas quilts that are perfect for this time of year.
Warm Memories - Advent Wall Quilt
Warm Memories features a wall quilt with ornaments that hang on little buttons on the tree branches. Easy to piece, fun to stitch either in cotton or wool.

Joyful Wishes Charm quilt
Joyful Wishes uses a Christmas-themed charm pack, but you can always dig into your stash for the colors of the season. Makes a fun hostess gift.
Christmas J-O-Y
Three Layer Cake squares, some buttons and a little stitching are all you need to make a welcoming quilt for your entry.
Stars on a Roll - Jelly Roll lap quilt
I want to make Stars on a Roll with my new Christmas line, but that will have to wait for next year. This goes together in about 10 hours, start to finish.
Enjoy the holiday season. As Moms and women and quilters, we give to everyone else first. We want the tree, the table, the gifts wrapped perfectly, as if we're Joanna Gaines or Martha Stewart with a staff to help behind the scenes.
Take time for yourself.
Breathe.
Soak in the atmosphere.
Everything doesn't have to be perfect. It's about the people and the experiences.
(I repeat this to myself every day this time of year.)
Have a happy holiday season!

Congratulations to:
kupton52 - I love your little quilt----what a great place to put my quilt pins I used to collect but have never displayed them! I have not used the cake mix papers. My local quilt shop (I live in the boonies and it is 45 minutes away) does not carry them....but I would LOVE to try them. Thanks for a chance to win. Fingers crossed!
You're the lucky winner of a Mix It Up book, Cake Mix papers, a KT Through the Years Layer Cake and a coordinating Bella Solid Layer Cake. Please reply with your shipping address and we'll send your goodies right out.

Thanks to everyone who commented. Sounds to me there are lots of interested future bakers out there! If you don't win some Cake Mix or Cupcake Mix papers this week, give them a try.

Mix It Up Giveaway

Moda/Martingale Blog Hop and Giveaway

Do you love cake? I know, silly question. But have you tried Moda's Cake and Cupcake Mix Papers to create perfect half square triangles? A whole different kind of recipe, but one that makes "baking" a quilt much easier.

I was skeptical at first, having tried numerous other triangle papers and not loving them. After being coerced asked to participate in this book, I really enjoyed working with Moda's Cupcake Mix papers along with a charm pack. The papers are easy to stitch through and easy to peel off. The result is a perfect half square triangle block with no trimming. That's my kind of baking.

Here's my little quilt, Pin Me, using just one Cupcake Mix pack and a KT charm pack.

There are more than a dozen creative, wonderful projects in this book featuring Moda's Cake Mix papers using Layer Cakes, and Cupcake Mix papers with charm packs. So easy and fun!

Would you like to try one of the recipes in Mix It Up? Comment here to win a KT Through the Years Layer Cake (my newest fabric line not available until March 2020), a Bella Solid Layer Cake, a pack of Cake Mix papers #2, and, of course, the Mix It Up book. What a grand prize! Thanks to Moda and Martingale for these great giveaways.

Comment here by Friday, November 8th at midnight to win. I'll post the winner on Saturday.

For more chances to win, check in with the other designers who contributed to this delightful book all week. Good luck and happy baking!

KT Winner & Blog Hop

KT Winner

Congratulations to Marie! You've won a pumpkin pillow kit.

marie - Brilliant idea, would love to win, but just in case am going to big lots to see if they have any. Over the years I've passed my fall decorations on to the kids, only kept a few special pieces.

Good luck at Big Lots. The pumpkin placemats sold out quickly in our area. Hope to find a Christmas placemat that will work for a pillow topper, too. Let me know if you find something fun. What a quick and easy gift idea.

KT November Special

Milestones

My new Milestones fabric collection has arrived! I'm delighted with the assortment of floral, leaf and geometric prints in the warm KT colors of fall. I even threw in my plum/purple along with pumpkin this season, just for fun. This line blends beautifully with KT Favorites III - and all KT fabrics - to create my new 20 Years of KTQ Block-of-the-Month quilt. It features 20 blocks to celebrate 20 years of KT fabric with Moda. I hope you're joining us when the fun kicks off in January with Blocks #1 and #2. Check with your local quilt shop to sign up, then join our Facebook group to follow along for tips along the way.

20 Years of KTQ BOM (118"sq.)
I chose a few of my favorite blocks to make bonus projects to go along with the 20 Years quilt. There's the Bee-you-ti-full runner using the sunflower block...
Bee-you-ti-full
a blue and white delight with my 20 Plus lap quilt...
20 Plus
and a trio of fun little projects featuring the basket block for a pillow topper, three 4-Square blocks for a pillow sleeve, and a few mini spools to make an adorable pincushion.

A Few Little Extras
All of these patterns are included in the 20 Years of KTQ instruction pack, or are sold separately. Available at your local quilt shop now.

Woven Dreams

Our KT November Special is the Woven Dreams lap kit. The traditionally pieced ribbon star block is a new favorite of mine. If you participated in Blockheads II, you might remember I used it as one of my blocks. Since then, I've simplified it with fewer seams - still piecing it traditionally - for a flatter, easier block. Woven Dreams features a Milestones Jelly Roll to make a 60" x 74" lap quilt.

Our Woven Dreams Kit includes a Milestones Jelly Roll plus all fabric for quilt top & binding
and pattern in a beautiful Moda box (see below - limited quantities).
Retail $109.95. Our special price is $95 with FREE shipping.

KT Winner and a Little Fall Fun

KT Winner

Fall Fun

I opted not to attend Fall Quilt Market last week, instead spending the weekend with my kids in Colorado. This year, my twin sons turned 40 on October 27. I've missed virtually every one of their birthdays for 24 years because of market, not to mention my daughter's birthday on October 22 and Robert's on October 26. (He's usually with me at market, and decided years ago that the Moda party was just for his birthday.) Anyway, throw in two of the daughters-in-law with birthdays within 10 days, too, and it's a BIG party!

We had a great time spending a few days with kids and grankids. The weather was perfect with a beautiful 60 degree sunny Friday, then off to Denver on Saturday for an adults only day/night out. Our first stop was Voodoo Donuts. If you're in Denver, it's a can't miss treat. Almost everyone chose the Memphis Mafia as a starter - a banana fritter with peanut butter & chocolate drizzle and chocolate chips. (I didn't think to get a picture until it was about 1/3 eaten already.) Breakfast of Champions! While at Voodoo, you can't leave without filling up a box for later.

While the girls were doing a little shopping at Cherry Creek Mall, the twins (Brent & Brian) were having a ball trying on cool guy duds. (The sunglasses are theirs.)

Dave & Busters was a hit later in the afternoon with a new 4D VR game/ride from Terminator. I loved it - and had the high score even though I didn't have a clue what to do! Sushi at Kona Grill rounded out the day and prepared us for our big night out. We went to a comedy club where the headliners were the Sklar brothers - twins! It was so funny to hear their act, playing off each other just like my guys do. So much fun! I'm blessed and delighted that my adult children still invite Robert and I (the old folks) to hang out and celebrate with them. Thanks, guys, for a wonderful weekend!

Fall Decorating

Some years, I don't get out my fall stuff until after market, then rush to decorate before Thanksgiving, and take it down a week later to make way for Christmas. This year, I had time to leisurely add a few pumpkins here and there over a few weeks in between designing and sewing. I've really enjoyed changing things up for the season and plan to make it a priority next year.

Love the fabric pumpkins on the textured suitcases!

My favorite pumpkins are handmade from old metal barrels.

I recently discovered Rae Dunn pottery (white with black lettering or reversed) and am fairly addicted. I was drawn to the mugs with words like "happy" and "inspire" and plates & bowls with "hangry", "indulge" and "seconds please". It makes me smile to select my mug each morning for tea that says "grateful", or a plate for dinner at night with "feast". I think everyone needs their dinnerware to speak encouraging words to them.

While shopping for a few more fall touches, I found these burlap pumpkin placemats at Big Lots and fell in love! I don't do placemats on our table, but love it stitched to a quilted flannel pillow. Fastest fall decor ever! I ran back and bought every one they had. We have just a few kits left that include the pumpkin placemat and all the flannel needed for the pillow front, back and bias binding @ $18 each. Call the store at 785-488-2120 to order (supplies limited).

This week's giveaway is a pumpkin pillow kit (above). It's not too late to whip one up before the holidays and is neutral enough for any decorating scheme. A great gift idea! Comment here on your fall decorating to win.

Announcing...

KT & Friends Retreat 2020

As you read this, I'll just be returning home from Hamilton, MO, home of Missouri Star Quilt Co. Robert and I hosted another KT & Friends Retreat. Joining me again were my quilting buddies, Jenny Doan of Missouri Star, and Barb Groves and Mary Jacobsen of Me and My Sister Designs. We took over Hotel Hamilton, a motel and retreat space for quilters that visit MSQC. Owner Dakota Redford has done a wonderful job decorating the themed rooms for quilt enthusiasts. We all enjoyed teaching about 90 quilters over 4 days of workshops and trunk shows, plus lots of surprises.

If you couldn't make it to one of our KT events this year, Robert and I are delighted to be hosting another KT & Friends Retreat at the home of Kansas Troubles Quilters in Bennington, Kansas, June 17-20, 2020. Last June, we took over the high school with 100 quilters taking "summer school" workshops in the classrooms, eating in the school cafeteria, and enjoying trunk shows in the gym. It was so much fun!

We're also planning to take KT & Friends on the road again later in the year. Maybe we'll come to a city near you!

If you're interested in joining us in the future for a KT & Friends Retreat, email our coordinator, Kathy, at krlimpic@gmail.com for more information.

I Can Make It Challenge

Moda Schoolhouse Block Challenge

This year at Spring Market, the over-active creative minds at Moda challenged us to make an 18" block with our newest charm pack. My block features my Milestones charm pack for a simple half square triangle block. It just happened to work out perfectly with the number of colors & prints in the line. You'll actually end up with two blocks from a charm pack and double the fun!

I turned my block into a comfy pillow for my favorite reading/editing corner. Now, I just need to finish the second pillow!

Woven Dreams

Are you a Blockhead? If you're not familiar, a dozen or so Moda designers all got together and shared quilt blocks each week for 54 weeks last year. If you are, you might remember the star I included in my series of blocks. After posting this ribbon star block, I had many requests for a lap quilt pattern. I simplified the block for traditional piecing and included it in my 20 Years of KTQ Block-of-the-Month quilt. The pattern for the lap quilt is one of the bonus patterns FREE with the purchase of the BOM, or can be purchased separately HERE. Now available as a digital PDF download.

I chose a Milestones Jelly Roll to make the stars scrappy in cozy shades of autumn. I love the tan prints and tone-on-tones in this line. One was perfect for a lighter background behind the stars and another added a warmer tone for sashing strips. I love it when the fabric works into my plan! We'll have my Woven Stars kits available soon, shortly after the fabric arrives. Retail price $109.95.

Here you can see the Woven Star block in the 20 Years of KTQ BOM. I had such a great time designing this quilt, I'm still using blocks from the quilt for projects in upcoming fabric lines.

Do you have a stash of KT fabrics just waiting to make this beautiful king size quilt? Comment here to win the 20 Years of KTQ pattern pack (retail $48.95) plus all 4 of the bonus projects, including Woven Stars.

KT September Special

Bee-you-ti-full Runner

The Milestones fabric collection will be here next month loaded with florals and prints in the full range of KT colors - reds, plums, blues, greens, golds, pumpkins, blacks & tans. It's the perfect companion to KT Favorites III and my 20 Years of KTQ Block-of-the-Month quilt.

To celebrate 20 years of designing fabric with Moda, I designed a quilt with 20 blocks to represent each year of my quilting journey. We're piecing this king size (118"sq.) sampler in a 12 month BOM series that begins in Januray 2020. Check with your local quilt shop or call KTQ to sign up today! We only have a few more kits available.

As part of the 20 Years BOM, you'll also receive four bonus patterns featuring some of the blocks in the quilt. One of my favorites is the Kansas Sunflower block. I made two sunflowers to create a charming runner with simple fusible applique bees swarming around. I named it Bee-you-ti-full because my grandaughter, Delainey, said the word "beautiful" like that at a very early age.
Our KT September Special offers a sneak peek at the Bee-you-ti-full runner kit plus pattern for only $26.95 plus free shipping ($32.95 retail). You save more than $12! Click HERE to order your Bee-you-ti-full Runner & pattern. Supplies are limited.

Watch for more peeks of the Milestones/20 Years of KTQ projects, coming soon!!

Moda Summer Charm Swap Week #6

This week, Vanessa Goertzen, of Lella Boutique, shares her quilt using a charm pack from Lisa Bongean's wonderful red, white and blue collection. I'm a little partial to red/white/blue since my birthday falls on July 5th. I try to set aside time to make myself a little quilt each summer - just for me - and Vanessa's Mini Chandelier Charm quilt is the perfect choice this year. So simple, but full of Americana spirit.

20 Years of KTQ

As I'm writing my quilting life story that covers the past 20 years, it's still hard to believe I'm been designing fabric for Moda and making quilts this long. I'm on the road teaching, but in the evenings, I'm trying to put into words how much this journey has transformed me, my husband and our lives. I've gone from designing quilt patterns part time, to designing my own fabric to make quilts, owning a quilt shop/retreat space and teaching all over the country at quilt guilds, shops and on cruises. It's surreal to think of all the opportunities quilting has brought to my life, and how much things have changed since being a social worker in the 1990's.

To celebrate this milestone, I designed a quilt with 20 blocks that represent my 20 years in quilting. The quilt features my KT Favorites III collection, as well as a new line called Milestones. Clever, huh? It's designed to be a block-of-the-month (actually, two blocks a month) and begins in January 2020. Check with your local quilt shop, or give us a call for more information. We have a limited number of spaces available through our store.

On the Road Again...

I'm off on another adventure with my grandaughter, Aleece. We're heading to The Olde Country Store in Intercourse, PA this week for workshops and a trunk show Friday & Saturday. I'll share my Layered Patchwork technique to simplify flying geese in Chasing Stars, and a goose tracks block in the Songbird runner.

Chasing Stars is one of our KT Favorites III projects featuring a JR Layer Cake with (20) all tan prints. It's a great addition to my precuts and makes gathering fabric for a quilt even easier.

All KT FavIII kits and digital patterns are 25% off through the month of July. Find them HERE

Songbird Runner uses our KT Kut-ups precut fusible appliques for instant applique gratification. I'm planning to add a couple more seasonal options for this runner soon. Any requests? Fall? Patriotic?

Songbird Runner

Next we're going north to East Amherst, NY to Patchwork Garden quilt shop July 15-17 for four workshops and a trunk show. In addition to the Songbird Runner, I'm teaching some projects from my new book, Prairie Life, for the first time - Goose, Goose, Duck and Cypress Runner. Goose, Goose, Duck plays with a variety of sizes of flying geese blocks, all simplified with my Layered Patchwork method. Find my Prairie Life book HERE.

The Cypress Runner features three large blocks and KT Kut-ups precut fusible appliques for a quick finish of a fun summery accent for your home.

We'll also be making an assortment of Mini Table Treats - my 17" round mini table toppers that can be completed in about 3 hours. It's one of my favorite workshops to teach since everyone goes home with a finished project. Find all our MTT options HERE.

Mini Table Treats

I visited Patchwork Garden a couple years ago. Not only do they have one of the most unique workshop venues and a great shop, but Niagra Falls is practically in their backyard. We hope to find time to go this year.

Our last stop is at the Wellsboro, PA Quilt Guild July 19-20. I'll share my quilts and stories at their guild meeting Friday evening, and follow up with a 30-Something workshop on Saturday.

30-Something from Layers of Love

On our way home, we'll treat ourselves in Casey, IL, home of the BIGGEST of everything from a rocking chair to wind chimes to a giant needle and a bird cage with a swing for people. It's one of our favorite lunch spots - and the ice cream and fudge shops aren't bad, either.

Have a lovely summer whatever you have planned. If you're close by, come see me during my quilt shop/guild visits.

Comment for a chance to win a 4-pack of Mini Table Treats patterns. I'll check in on the road, but the winner won't be announced until I return the week of July 22nd.
