This week's winner

Terry, your #1 post has made you a winner! Hope you enjoy the new KT Favorites - 10 Years & Counting BOM book.

Be the first to get a taste of the new Perennials fabric collection hitting the shops in January with our giveaway ending Dec. 26th - a Perennials charm pack and pattern. The quarter circle raw edge applique is a twist on the traditiional Drunkard's Path block without the curved piecing - and no drunks in sight (unless you enjoy sewing with a Diet Coke & Captain Morgan like someone else I know). Keeps the type A perfectionist in me in check. What do you do to destress and enjoy the process of stitching?

I'm up to my ankles in flannel making pillowcases for the grandkids this weekend. It's given me time to reflect on the different quilting styles. There are 2 types of quilters - process & product. Process quilters enjoy creating and sewing with no real compulsion to finish (hence, numerous UFOs.) Product quilters, like me, enjoy the finished project the most, but then we also have a list of a dozen more things to do. Of course, in my business, the product has to be finished to sell it to move on to the next one. That may have an impact on my style, but I've always loved the last few stitches in a quilt binding. Not that I don't have UFOs stacking up, but they're mostly personal "fun" projects I've started in between KT "have to" projects. I set aside New Year's, Mother's Day and a snow day each year to sew just for me. Try setting aside quilting days just for yourself, whether it's a retreat or a personal escape in your own sewing room. It's the best way to destress and create something at the same time.

Happy Christmas Shopping,
Lynne

  2. I can hardly wait for the Perennial fabric to hit the shops! LOVE it! I'm all signed up for your new BOM and can hardly wait for you to start shipping! I love to sew everyday, even if it's only for 10 minutes. I'm trying to finish more, I tend to jump around and try new things.

  6. There are NO KT fabric I do not love so the Perennial is absolutely there on my list of favourites.
I always start my day in my sewing room. Absolutely E V E R Y morning!!! Whether it is to actually sew, to plan the next project or pick out the fabric. Then as I move on int o the hectic day of the workforce and things get haywire, I reflect on my morning and the serenity that awaits me after work!

  7. Congratulations Terry! Hand quilting is relaxing for me, other than I get carried away and stay up too late. Would enjoy winning your hand selected fabrics and pattern for the Perennials Charm Pack Quilt. Merry Christmas.

  8. I'm a UFO type person -- collect projects and jump from one to the next -- New Year's resolution -- finish a few next year. Would love to win pattern and charm pack to add to my project pile. Pat

  10. Wow I never thought about making pillowcases out of flannel. Living Florida we don't use that much flannel, but it would be very nice for those in the north.

  11. I'm a little of both - enjoy planning and sewing but at some point I must finish something after jumping from project to project. Just signed up for a retreat at the end of Jan - can't wait, 6 meals that I don't have to cook or clean up after - oh, and the sewing, too.

  12. I also enjoy the thrill of a finished project and finishing the binding and then getting the label done and on are the best part. It is always fun to see the new line of fabric when it comes.

  18. I love preparation (gathering the materials) and patchwork. I don't enjoy quilting. Guess that puts me in the process group. Perennials will be a favorite along with all your other fabric lines.

  22. I really enjoyed your "Process & Product" descriptions....I fall into the product side, with a few projects waiting behind.
How do I destress? The first thought is when I can spend 'quality time' quilting...by this I mean 'without interrupt for an hour' :) Ahh, happiness :D I've even figured out how to find quilt time during TV commercials, I have made up a grab-bag of precut circles to make yo-yo's for a soon-to-be-next quilt project.
Please enter me into your giveaway, I would love to win.

  27. Congrats to Terry. I am fairly new to the KT scene but love the fabrics and colors. They are so relaxing. I hope to do the BOM this year and learn some of the techniques incorporated in it. Love the Perennial fabric and would be thrilled if I won the charm pack and pattern. Keep up the good work, Lynne.

  28. I am a product quilter. I like the end product. I also, did not want to give them away. I keep finding excuses why they should not be given away. The borders does not look right, the quilting is not perfect, the colors are off. I think I have attachment issues. Thank for a great giveaway and looking forward to the advent calendar. Merry Christmas.

  32. I take a walk around my garden before sitting down to stitch! It always calms me and I think about how I can relate all the beauty of nature to my quilting! Been drooling over perennials so much - probably because I love my own perennials in my garden so much!
    Cheers!

  33. I love everything about quilting but when I have the time, I guess I love the hand quilting. Love your fabric!

  34. The sneak peeks and fabric colors are so yummy on this blog - I keep coming back to look! Working on finishing UFOs that date back at least to 1998...some older probably. My sewing room makeover nearly complete - makes sewing fun again.
