Moda Blockheads Week #43

This week, we're offering the last round of blocks from the 6 Blockhead designers. My block this week is Any Direction. It started out as a flying geese block and kinda grew and changed as the other blocks were revealed. I love this new version made with traditional piecing or my Layered Patchwork method. See how different the block looks with the piecer's color placement. I can't wait to see all of your great blocks on Facebook!

Click HERE to find the link for both options of Any Direction - traditionally pieced or Layered Patchwork. Enjoy!

Sorry for the short post. Our family had a wonderful Christmas on Saturday. Robert and I were looking forward to a quiet Christmas Day all alone, watching holiday movies and snacking on leftovers. However, it seems Santa left a nasty stomach bug in my stocking. Hope you are all well. Have a Happy New Year!

KT Christmas Giveaway Week #4

KT Winner

Congrats to:

My favorite gift, and most used, is a casserole carrier made by my Grandma H for Christmas 1968. I married the following April and I have used this gift for the proceeding 48 years! A home sewn gift lasts and lasts. It has been used many times for transporting food to potlucks. When going through my Mom's things this past year I found the one Grandma gifted her, and brought it home to my home.

What a great story! Homemade gifts are truly full of happiness and heartfelt wishes. Thanks to everyone for sharing. Have a wonderful week of holiday surprises. Here's our last giveaway of the year. Enjoy!

KT Christmas Giveaway Week #4

I couldn't end the year without giving away more of my Cozy Quilts and Comforts books. I'm so happy with the warm, homey feel of the book. Martingale captured my vision in beautiful pictures and so many fun little details on every page. It's a treat for me to share it with you. So, this week, there will be 3 winners! Triple the chances of winning!

Find Cozy Quilts and Comforts HERE.

Hints for the holidays: Simplify. Enjoy your time with loved ones. Use paper plates. (I got a standing ovation from my husband and sons - the dishwashers - at Thanksgiving for buying heavy duty disposable silverware. Totally worth it!) Buy a couple of the main dishes instead of trying to cook everything from scratch. Ask for help. Don't stress if it isn't all perfect. Have a perfectly wonderful holiday season, Christmas thru New Year's.

Comment this week on your quilting plans for next year. Do you make a list of projects you'd like to accomplish? Retreats you'd like to attend? Quilt shows you'd love to visit? A new technique you'd like to try? I'd love to hear from you.

Moda Blockheads Week #42

KT Blockheads Winner

I forgot to post the winner of the giveaway from last week. Congratulations to:

Bowl cozys ,pot holders, table runners and still not done lol... happyness04431@yahoo.com

Moda will be sending out your KT fabric bundle and Cozy Quilts & Comforts book soon!

The end of the year is almost here, and we're nearing the last round of Blockheads' blocks. Just 6 blocks/weeks left after today! I can't believe how quickly the year has gone by. But, before we get to Block #42...

Question of the Week: My perfect holiday season is - big and boisterous or quiet and peaceful? I will spend this week....

My perfect holiday is when all the kids and grankids come for food, games, gifts and an overnight slumber party at the KT Retreat. Then, Robert and I are ready for a quiet Christmas Day at home alone. It's the best of both worlds! I'm just done shopping and decorating, just need to finish up some baking and last minute cooking. Everyone brings heavy appetizers - meatballs, dips, veggies, etc. and we snack all night long. Of course, there are more desserts than anything else. Good thing for my waistline it's only once a year!

Block #43 -Turnstile by Carrie Nelson

First of all, I'd like to thank Carrie for all she's done to help with our Blockheads BOW. She not only designed her blocks, but has been essential in coordinating patterns, setting up the Moda directory of all the Blockheads' Blocks, and generating our weekly questions. So glad she's on our team.

Here are Kathy's traditional block and Joy's Layered Patchwork option (left).
Find Carrie's instructions for Turnstile on her blog HERE.

My Layered Patchwork instructions can be found HERE.

Back of blocks - Kathy's traditional (left); Joy's Layered Patchwork (right).

We saved 12 seams and alot of pressing using Layered Patchwork. Give it a try!

I hope all of you celebrate the season in your favorite way with all your favorite people.
Merry Christmas from our house to yours.

KT Christmas Giveaway Week #3

KT Winner

Congratulations to the winner of our Gooseberry Sampler booklet and Gooseberry Lane fabric scraps:
Trying to finish projects! And always wanting to start another. Tree and mantel are decorated, stockings hung by the chimney with care...

Kathy, email your shipping address to lynne@ktquilts.com and we'll wrap up your goodies and send them on their way. Thanks to everyone who commented. Don't give up! You have two more opportunities to win.

KT Christmas Giveaway Week #3

This week's giveaway is from my fall collection, Harvest Hill, new to quilt shops in November. After my quilt piecers return their finished projects, all the leftover parts are gathered in a box until the patterns have been edited and pictures taken - just in case. Now, I can share the box of scraps with you! My favorite project from this line is Be Brave. It was inspired by my middle-school-aged grandaughter, Aleece. She has loved bows and arrows since she received her first Nerf set as a preschooler. Her Halloween costumes have involved a bow/arrow for years, from Disney's Merida to Hunger Games' Katniss to Wonder Woman. I appreciate the strong female role models  she has to choose from in books and movies today.

Be Brave lap quilt.

Click HERE to find the Be Brave booklet.

Good luck with your holiday preparations.I know I stress way more than I should over decorating and trying to find/make the perfect gift for each person. All my kids and grankids really want is lots of good food and time to hang out together.

To win the Be Brave booklet and Harvest Hill box of scraps, comment here about your favorite gift ever - to give or receive. I love your stories!

Moda Blockheads Week #41

Blockheads Week #41 - Pinwheel Star by Lisa Bongean

Lisa has designed another dynamic block this week with lots of visual movement. How can you beat and pinwheel and a star? Kathy opted for traditional red/white/blues from Lisa's fabric collections while Joy pieced her Layered Patchwork block in assorted KT prints.

Click HERE for Lisa's blog and the instructions for her Pinwheel Star.

It's not easy to see from the front of the blocks that the triangles on the Layered Patchwork block are topstitched instead of pieced, but very easy to see how many seams are eliminated from the picture of the back of the blocks.

Back of Kathy's (left) and Joy's Block #41.
Click HERE for my Layered Patchwork option for Lisa's Pinwheel Star.

Question of the Week: Christmas presents - did you make any? Did you finish everything or will you still be stitching on December 24th?

I don't try to start new quilting projects this late in the season, but might give a quilt that's already done. However, Robert and I have a couple of upcycled projects to finish yet. Parts are prepared, assembly is required. I can't reveal what they are yet as my kids sometimes follow my blog. We're having Christmas on December 23rd this year, so we better be done before then!

Moda is generously offering a great prize from each of the designers this week as our "Thank You" to all of you for participating in the last year of Moda Blockheads BOW. My giveaway is a Harvest Hill fat 1/8 bundle AND my new Cozy Quilts and Comforts book. Comment below for a chance to win. (NOTE: Robert took the picture with a fat 1/4 bundle, because that's all we had left. The giveaway is for a fat 1/8 bundle.)

Be sure to comment on each designer's blog this week to win a wonderful giveaway from Moda! What a fun Christmas surprise in your mailbox.

KT Christmas Giveaway Week #2

KT Winner and Another Giveaway

Only 2 more weeks until Christmas! Are your stockings hung? Cookies baked? Gifts wrapped? Uh, that would be a big "NO" from me. But I'm working on it a little each day. Robert is leaving for a long weekend, so I'll be finishing up the last couple sewing projects (pillows and a runner), adding the finishing touches to a chalkboard project, and covering a lamp shade with fabric for Delainey's Paris-themed bedroom. I'll try to remember to take some pictures before wrapping it all up.

The winner of our Christmas Giveaway Week #1 is:
Excited about the December surprises!! My birthday is in December!!

Congratulations AND Happy Birthday, Lin! You've won a $25 KT Gift Certificate. (I know it says $20 in the previous blog post, but we don't have $20 Gift Certificates. Senior moment, sorry. But good for you!)

Today, we have a another gift for you! Our Christmas Giveaway for Week #2 is my Gooseberry Sampler booklet and a box of leftover fabrics from the Gooseberry Lane collection. Comment on your holiday preparations to win a goodie box full of KT Christmas wonderfulness.

Moda Blockheads Week #40

Block #40 - Cardinal by Jan Patek

Jan's sweet cardinal has flown in at the perfect time to proclaim the beginning of winter. Although I'm not a fan of cold toes, there's something invigorating and magical about crisp days and falling snow and crackling fires and cuddling up with quilts while sipping hot cocoa (or your favorite warm beverage).
Click HERE for Jan's blog and the pattern for her applique block.

Kathy's block is fusible applique with cotton fabric to create a happy bluejay. Joy is playing with wool again for her version of Jan's cardinal.

Question of the Week: Do you decorate with quilts for the Holidays? Are they color-themed, or do they include holiday motifs and fabrics?

We have our family Christmas at the KT retreat center. The kids/grankids come before or after Christmas to hang out overnight. I pull out all my Christmas quilts from past collections and hang them on the walls, throw them over sofas and chairs, and pile them in baskets for the grankids to curl up in while watching movies. Since we're only there about 24 hours, I'm considering skipping the tree this year and just hanging my large Advent tree quilt on the wall with gifts stacked on a table in front of it. Do you think I can get away with it?

This is the lap size quilt with the ornaments in cotton stitched to the quilt permanently. For a true Advent quilt, the pattern also comes with a wall quilt with wool ornaments as an option. Find the Warm Memories booklet HERE.

Don't forget to check out all the Blockheads' blog posts this week to see what they're up to for the holidays.

The winner of the All in a Row Again eBook from Martingale is:

I have the first Moda row book, and I haven't made a quilt from it yet. But my daughter and I might each make a quilt using our own choices of rows and see how different they come out. I think we need the second volume to give us even more selections (or to confuse us even more)!

Darlene, please send your email address to lynne@ktquilts.com. I will forward your info to Martingale and they will send your eBook. Then you'll have no excuse to put off making a row quilt with your daughter!

In addition, Kansas Troubles has chosen a winner too!

I haven't made a row quilt yet but all the designers have have done an excellent job and I would certainly like to try one

Jayne, email your shipping address to lynne@ktquilts.com and we'll send out your copy of All in a Row Again.

As our "Thank You" to all of you, we'll have a holiday giveaway each week of December. Watch each Friday for your chance to win a special surprise! This week, comment to win a KTQ $20 Gift Certificate.
