Block #40 - Cardinal by Jan Patek
Jan's sweet cardinal has flown in at the perfect time to proclaim the beginning of winter. Although I'm not a fan of cold toes, there's something invigorating and magical about crisp days and falling snow and crackling fires and cuddling up with quilts while sipping hot cocoa (or your favorite warm beverage).Click HERE for Jan's blog and the pattern for her applique block.
Kathy's block is fusible applique with cotton fabric to create a happy bluejay. Joy is playing with wool again for her version of Jan's cardinal.
Question of the Week: Do you decorate with quilts for the Holidays? Are they color-themed, or do they include holiday motifs and fabrics?
We have our family Christmas at the KT retreat center. The kids/grankids come before or after Christmas to hang out overnight. I pull out all my Christmas quilts from past collections and hang them on the walls, throw them over sofas and chairs, and pile them in baskets for the grankids to curl up in while watching movies. Since we're only there about 24 hours, I'm considering skipping the tree this year and just hanging my large Advent tree quilt on the wall with gifts stacked on a table in front of it. Do you think I can get away with it?
This is the lap size quilt with the ornaments in cotton stitched to the quilt permanently. For a true Advent quilt, the pattern also comes with a wall quilt with wool ornaments as an option. Find the Warm Memories booklet HERE.

Where is Lynnes block #40?
ReplyDeleteI have looked everywhere for it,
We do not decorate much because it is just my husband and I, but we hang a quilt that I made called "Trim the Tree Fun," and that serves as our Christmas tree. I have another Christmas quilt that, when or if I ever get it finished, I'll lay out. Have a wonderful Christmas & Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI decorate with several of AnitaGoodesign wallhangings I have embroidered, then quilted. My favorite is the Nativity Scene. I also like Santa and his sack beside the Christmas Tree and the Christmas village. I'm working on a row by row with Christmas Town.
ReplyDeleteCardinals are my favourite birds so I'll make my version red!
ReplyDeleteI could never get away with not putting up a tree!
My Mom loves cardinals so this block will be her favorite.
ReplyDeleteI always decorate with quilts!! I have many Christmas quilts of various themes and colors, but all definitely with Christmas at heart. I love the winter season!
ReplyDeleteI really like your new decorative designs! it's so beautiful so much and good idea on site.
