A Wonderful Retreat

Great Girlfriend Getaway, St. Augustine, Florida Retreat

Pam Buda and I just missed the ice and snow in Atlanta driving home from our Florida retreat. We both had a wonderful time sharing our quilts and quilting techniques and spending time with this great bunch of women. The weather cooperated with beautiful 70 degree days when we arrived, then cooled off to more normal winter temps of 40-50 later in the week. What did we care - we were stitching away in cozy comfort.
Across the street from our Hilton home base.

The quilters were flying through their Windmills on the Plains pinwheel blocks
using my easy layered patchwork technique.

New! Assorted Tan Precuts by KTQ

Many of the quilters opted to make this 48" square wall quilt into a lap quilt by adding just a few ingredients. With KT's new assorted tan Jelly Rolls, it's a snap! We chose (20) of our favorite tan tone-on-tones and prints and assembled them into pinked edge Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs and Mini Charm Packs. They're perfect for adding to a project to enlarge it since they match Moda's precut edges. A KT exclusive, now available on our website at KT Tan Precuts.

Pam and I are already busy working on our next retreat in Mackinaw City, MI in September. Check out the details at GGG Mackinaw City, MI Retreat at ktquilts.com. Sign ups are coming in fast so grab your girlfriends and call today! Be sure to plan an extra day or two to explore historic Mackinaw Island via ferry.

  2. I have never been to one, but I think going to a retreat in a warm state like Florida, sounds like a nice way to get out of this cold and quilt with new friends.

  3. I love having undivided time to work on my quilting projects. I like to take some of my UFOs to finish at retreats. Somehow, the company of other quilters spurs me on to finish the projects.

  6. Quilt retreats are a special time to get together with friends, laugh and talk, sew to your hearts content, play silly games, and exchange ideas. The best part is having someone else cook and clean up! Guess where I'll be next week!

    1. FYI: The tan precuts are a KT exclusive which means you can only purchase them from us. The added expense of having existing fabrics cut makes it impossible for us to offer them to shops wholesale. Please check them out on our website at ktquilts.com.

  36. I've only been on one retreat, and it was the general camaraderie and good will! Actually it was with all my on-line quilting buddies from one coast to the other, so it really was a blast - I had only met a handful face-to-face before. Looking forward to doing it again in October!!

  50. I've never been on a quilting retreat. Being a military wife and homeschool momma, going on one might have to wait just a few more years. But that is totally fine! I'm so blessed, and wouldn't change it for anything! :)

  51. Several years ago a friend Marina and I spent a week away at a game lodge - not to look at the game - lion, elephant, hippo, zebra, and the rest - we'd seen them all before - but for me to finish hand quilting my very first quilt, and for her to complete and stitch together all the granny square crochet blocks for afghans for her daughter. What a wonderful week it was away from it all, and we both got our projects finished. Simply love your fabrics and lust after the tan precuts you are so generously giving away.

  56. I get very distracted at retreats because I love looking at everyone's pincushions, machine pads, bags, and projects. And of course, then that all turns into conversations. Retreats are fun, and a wonderful source of inspiration. I would love to go to a large retreat sometime, so far the largest one had one hundred participants.
