I'm so excited to share my quilt with you that will appear in a new book by Martingale, I Love Log Cabins. Because, really, I DO love log cabins! What I don't like is cutting a million little strips that are all different lengths (and sometimes widths, too) from a jillion different fabrics that I have to keep straight with pinned-on notes in a dozen piles, then when I'm ready to sew it takes 20 minutes to figure out where I was when I stopped, so I brew a glass of tea, find a snack and turn on the TV and get totally side tracked. Whew! So much to think about! That's why I REALLY LOVE my version of a log cabin block in this book, Framed. It only has two cuts to think about in the whole quilt! I started with a Jelly Roll for even faster results. That's about my speed when I want a simply terrific quilt in a hurry for all the people on my list. Brights, novelties, traditional - it all looks great! . What do you think? Pretty nifty if I do say so myself. :)

ReplyDeleteGee, you make log cabins the same way I do. I have made 2 completed quilts, part of a third, and 2 American flags that used mini blocks for the stars. I love the variety with log cabins but your stitching has to be so precise and they are tedious to make. Glad you found a better way!
ReplyDeleteJust recently making my first log cabin block. Would love to try the ones in this book.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a log cabin now and you described the process perfectly!! It's been on my design wall for months and I'm dreading to wade back in. Would love to see your technique.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you and your hubby! I've never made a Log Cabin quilt so far because the normal settings are a bit too boring for me but recently I've seen a far beautiful ones and the ones in this book are among them.
ReplyDeleteI love log cabin quilts, too. My very first large` quilt was a quilt-as-you-go log cabin. It has been loved and well used for a lot of years. Happy Anniversary to you and your husband!
ReplyDeleteI became so confused once when making a log cabin variation! I know what you're talking about! Your quilt looks great, and the book would be a good one to have. Happy Anniversary!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the heart quilt pattern, too. I have some small heart blocks that have been languishing in a pile waiting for a quilt. This one is perfect!
