Jenny/Lynne Cruise - April 2016
It's always a pleasure to hang out with Jenny & Ron Doan. Cruisin' and quiltin' are a great way to squeeze some buddy time into our busy schedules. What a truly enjoyable week of work/play. Harold & Cindy Havard of Flash Sew & Quilt in Naples, Florida were our hosts. They worked with BAby Lock to provide sewing machines for each quilter. Our thanks to Aurifil thread for providing the perfect colors for both Jenny's and my projects. It's the best thread ever! Thanks, too, to Moda Fabrics for adding mini charms to the ladies' goodie bags. Love you guys!
The ports of call for this cruise are wonderful. Robert and I love St. Thomas and St. Martin - the beaches, the shopping, the local cuisine, the warm tropical breezes and no bugs! We found some island treasures and a little too much sun. Robert is just now peeling down to his original color :).
We had a delightful group of 78 quilters who entertained us as much as we taught them over the 3 days of workshops. There were ladies from Australia and Wisconsin, Kansas and Canada, Florida and Montana and everywhere in between. Some came with friends, some traveled alone, but made fast friends in class. You're never truly alone in a group of quilters, right?

You can see from the finished results that both of our projects were doable in just a day or two. That was the point! Jenny and I both believe in teaching a technique that can be utilized after you return home. We're teaching at Missouri Star's Retreat in August, then another cruise in January 2017. Don't hesitate to put your name on the waiting list. You'll receive info on our upcoming 2018 cruises first!

ReplyDeleteI would love to win a box of KT tan scraps. I seem to always run out of KT tans. My favorite quilts to make are scrappy KT ones and I am getting to start one for my 7 year old grandson. He loves the quilts I have made him.

ReplyDeleteI cruised with you in January 2016. I had so much fun and feel in love with your layered patchwork that I quickly jumped on the January 2017 cruise wait list! Time will only tell if my name makes it to the top of the list. Kansas Troubles fabrics....any of them....are my favorites. Thanks for sharing your talent with all of us and designing such beautiful fabrics. Winning a bag of tan scraps would be icing on the cake.

ReplyDeleteIt would be so heavenly to cruise and sew with you guys, but since I couldn't do that, my sister and I went to KT in Bennington instead and had an awesome time just staring at everything, lol. we were given a tour, asked many questions and spent all our money on books, rulers and patterns so those tan scraps sure would go into those patterns quite nicely. Loved the experience and look forward to the fall items.

ReplyDeleteThat's the thing about a cruise-you have a set aside time to sew. I've had too many distraction so far this year (our daughter's wedding is 3 weeks from today)and I miss the actual sewing part of quilting. Watching beautiful fabric become part of something new is a big part of the experience for me. Would love to win your tans and put them into a new creation.

It's raining here in Indiana today (a LOT) so I finally got the chance to pull out my Cooper's Crossing quilt project I started in Pigeon Forge. I sure hope my old lady brain remembers all you taught me. Look forward to hearing from you again next week.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: If you pull out a project that you have not worked on in 6 weeks it's a really good idea to re-read the pattern and maybe even put one block together before you sew all 64 pieces....

ReplyDeleteThis was my first cruise and my first time meeting You and Jenny. I just loved the raw edge appliqué tecniques and managed to finish my first quilt top on the cruise. I also loved your fabric and the give- aways were more than I ever expected, overall it was a great meeting you and Robert I loved every minute, I would recommend it to all my friends. ReplyDeleteWELL, I just had the most amazing quilting experience you can imagine - I was one of the lucky ladies to do the Jenny & Lynne Quilting Cruise. Memories to last a lifetime, (well except for the spinach). And I just received my very first order from Kansas Troubles - have you ever touched their flannel fabric? It is unbelievable, just like suede! It's made to cuddle, even before a quilt is made!
