The Latest from Moda & Martingale
Moda's All-Stars Scraps Made Simple is the newest book published by Martingale organized by Moda's very own Lissa Alexander. We're all excited for the unveiling at market this week. There are more than a dozen unique quilts offered to help use up your scraps by such acclaimed designers as Lissa Alexander, Lisa Bongean, Sherri McConnell, Amy Ellis, Laura Boehnke, Carrie Nelson, Jenny Doan and more. I'm honored to be included in this talented group of women. Here's a preview of the book and my quilt, Cutting Corners. I'll share with you how to make perfect points on the churn dash blocks using my layered patchwork method. Comment below to win a Scraps Made Simple book of your own and start busting your stash today!More Oak Haven
We're loading the car, packing our suitcases and checking each list twice - and then once more. Robert's theory is "As long we have the quilts, we can buy anything else we might have forgotten along the way." That's fine, except it still keeps me up at night wondering what I might be leaving behind that would have been the perfect touch and I'll never find another one along the way since I bought "it" at an antique store so I can't just walk into Hobby Lobby and get another one and I know right where it's sitting at home... Oh well...I always breathe a little easier once we're at market, unload the car and set up the booth. Did I remember to throw in a little basket/box for business cards? Did I bring just one more piece of fabric to cover up whatever? Do we have enough brochures? Geez, I've only done this about 40 times in my life (seriously). When will I have it down to a science? Probably never since it changes from year to year. For tonight, I'll check the suitcase one more time to make sure we have all the Oak Haven quilts, pop open a Black Cherry Mike's Hard Lemonade, and chill watching the latest episode of Gray's Anatomy. Maybe.
As promised, here are the accompanying projects for the Oak Haven lap quilt from last week - the 2 runners and pillow sleeve. I love the lap quilt and couldn't wait to finish it to get to these smaller projects with the same feel of autumn in much less time. The combination of flying geese using our layered patchwork technique paired with fused raw edge applique equals simple fall decor in an afternoon.

And that book - I just became the chairperson of my church quilt guild, which makes quilts for long term residents of a local hospital. I can always use great ideas for scrap quilts to make those very special gifts. Best wishes for a successful and low stress Quilt Market, Lynne.

ReplyDeleteLynne, et al, I love your books! You have made things so simple and beautiful with your layered patchwork techniques. I think I might do a scrappy crazy quilt block all in LP. Wouldn't that be fun for a little boy all in blue and gray? Your color palette is my favorite, so cozy and elegant! Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity! Gayle 🐾
ReplyDeleteI do shows and events and I feel just like that! It always works out just fine. I lie, like say "someone stole my entire box of cards right off the table- can you believe that? but here, let me write down my number for you."
ReplyDeleteAnd then they feel special. until fed ex or hubby brings more of whatever. I think if you are there, lipstick, and $ for coffee then the show is golden. And you are ok. Lapel stick and breath mints - bonus!
I have pieced 2 of your quilts this winter, and have 2 more to wrap up. Love your fabric, especially Sunflower Song. AND I still have a flannel quilt to SEW into! Looks like it's another Sewing Summer for me!
