Fall Fun
I opted not to attend Fall Quilt Market last week, instead spending the weekend with my kids in Colorado. This year, my twin sons turned 40 on October 27. I've missed virtually every one of their birthdays for 24 years because of market, not to mention my daughter's birthday on October 22 and Robert's on October 26. (He's usually with me at market, and decided years ago that the Moda party was just for his birthday.) Anyway, throw in two of the daughters-in-law with birthdays within 10 days, too, and it's a BIG party!
We had a great time spending a few days with kids and grankids. The weather was perfect with a beautiful 60 degree sunny Friday, then off to Denver on Saturday for an adults only day/night out. Our first stop was Voodoo Donuts. If you're in Denver, it's a can't miss treat. Almost everyone chose the Memphis Mafia as a starter - a banana fritter with peanut butter & chocolate drizzle and chocolate chips. (I didn't think to get a picture until it was about 1/3 eaten already.) Breakfast of Champions! While at Voodoo, you can't leave without filling up a box for later.
While the girls were doing a little shopping at Cherry Creek Mall, the twins (Brent & Brian) were having a ball trying on cool guy duds. (The sunglasses are theirs.)
Dave & Busters was a hit later in the afternoon with a new 4D VR game/ride from Terminator. I loved it - and had the high score even though I didn't have a clue what to do! Sushi at Kona Grill rounded out the day and prepared us for our big night out. We went to a comedy club where the headliners were the Sklar brothers - twins! It was so funny to hear their act, playing off each other just like my guys do. So much fun! I'm blessed and delighted that my adult children still invite Robert and I (the old folks) to hang out and celebrate with them. Thanks, guys, for a wonderful weekend!
Fall Decorating
Some years, I don't get out my fall stuff until after market, then rush to decorate before Thanksgiving, and take it down a week later to make way for Christmas. This year, I had time to leisurely add a few pumpkins here and there over a few weeks in between designing and sewing. I've really enjoyed changing things up for the season and plan to make it a priority next year.
Love the fabric pumpkins on the textured suitcases! |
My favorite pumpkins are handmade from old metal barrels. |
I recently discovered Rae Dunn pottery (white with black lettering or reversed) and am fairly addicted. I was drawn to the mugs with words like "happy" and "inspire" and plates & bowls with "hangry", "indulge" and "seconds please". It makes me smile to select my mug each morning for tea that says "grateful", or a plate for dinner at night with "feast". I think everyone needs their dinnerware to speak encouraging words to them.
This week's giveaway is a pumpkin pillow kit (above). It's not too late to whip one up before the holidays and is neutral enough for any decorating scheme. A great gift idea! Comment here on your fall decorating to win.
