On the Road Again...

I'm off on another adventure with my grandaughter, Aleece. We're heading to The Olde Country Store in Intercourse, PA this week for workshops and a trunk show Friday & Saturday. I'll share my Layered Patchwork technique to simplify flying geese in Chasing Stars, and a goose tracks block in the Songbird runner.

Chasing Stars is one of our KT Favorites III projects featuring a JR Layer Cake with (20) all tan prints. It's a great addition to my precuts and makes gathering fabric for a quilt even easier.

All KT FavIII kits and digital patterns are 25% off through the month of July. Find them HERE
Chasing Stars
Songbird Runner uses our KT Kut-ups precut fusible appliques for instant applique gratification. I'm planning to add a couple more seasonal options for this runner soon. Any requests? Fall? Patriotic?

Songbird Runner

Next we're going north to East Amherst, NY to Patchwork Garden quilt shop July 15-17 for four workshops and a trunk show. In addition to the Songbird Runner, I'm teaching some projects from my new book, Prairie Life, for the first time - Goose, Goose, Duck and Cypress Runner. Goose, Goose, Duck plays with a variety of sizes of flying geese blocks, all simplified with my Layered Patchwork method. Find my Prairie Life book HERE.

Goose, Goose, Duck
The Cypress Runner features three large blocks and KT Kut-ups precut fusible appliques for a quick finish of a fun summery accent for your home.

Cypress Runner
We'll also be making an assortment of Mini Table Treats - my 17" round mini table toppers that can be completed in about 3 hours. It's one of my favorite workshops to teach since everyone goes home with a finished project. Find all our MTT options HERE.

Mini Table Treats

I visited Patchwork Garden a couple years ago. Not only do they have one of the most unique workshop venues and a great shop, but Niagra Falls is practically in their backyard. We hope to find time to go this year.

Our last stop is at the Wellsboro, PA Quilt Guild July 19-20. I'll share my quilts and stories at their guild meeting Friday evening, and follow up with a 30-Something workshop on Saturday.

30-Something from Layers of Love

On our way home, we'll treat ourselves in Casey, IL, home of the BIGGEST of everything from a rocking chair to wind chimes to a giant needle and a bird cage with a swing for people. It's one of our favorite lunch spots - and the ice cream and fudge shops aren't bad, either.

Have a lovely summer whatever you have planned. If you're close by, come see me during my quilt shop/guild visits.

Comment for a chance to win a 4-pack of Mini Table Treats patterns. I'll check in on the road, but the winner won't be announced until I return the week of July 22nd.

Moda Summer Charm Swap - Week #2

Vintage Charm by Sherri McConnell

A few months ago, several of us were chatting at market - three designers that create brighter fabrics and three of us on the darker side. We hatched a plan to swap charm packs and play outside of our normal boxes. What fun we've had!

On Wednesday, June 26, I posted the first of six free charm patterns to share with you. The Moda Summer Charm Swap kicked off with my Crosswalk quilt in Vanessa Goertzen's Lollipop Garden fabric. Find the download HERE.

Next, I sent my KT Favorites III charm pack to Sherri McConnell. This week her quilt, Vintage Charm, is just that - simply charming.

Moda Summer Charm Swap - Week #1

Week #1 - Crosswalk by Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles Quilters

Need a new project for the summer? Want to try a new color palette without a big investment? How about easy, breezy charm patterns from six different Moda designers!

Last fall at market, I challenged a few of my fellow Moda designers to make a charm quilt from a fabric line outside of their usual palette. Three bright designers, Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique, Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life and Barb Groves and Mary Jacobson of Me and My Sister Designs, lined up across the aisle from Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings, Lauri Simpson of Minnick & Simpson and me for a charm challenge. The rules? Send a charm pack of your latest collection plus a total of 1 1/2 total yds. of fabric to the designer on your list. Bright designers sent their charm packs to dark designers and vice versa. And so the challenge began...

I received my box in the mail from Vanessa - a charm pack of Lollipop Garden, a peach & white stripe, a white word print and a mint green word print. What a fun collection to brighten a cold, dreary, Kansas winter day! I played with the charm squares, arranging them this way and that, until a plan developed. Here's what I created with Vanessa's charming fabric.

And here's the same quilt in my Kansas Troubles' Favorites III fabric...

I LOVE how different, but how much the same, these two quilts look. Vanessa's low contrast colors and prints make the bright version the perfect backdrop to my spring and Easter collectibles.

My fabric works well in my home most of the year, adding a warm, cozy feel to collectibles on the antique dry sink. So easy to make for any season.

Find the FREE pattern for Crosswalk HERE.

Check back each Wednesday thru July for a new charm quilt each week. Watch next Wednesday, July 3rd, for Sherri McConnell's charm swap challenge reveal. I can't wait!

KT Winner & More

KT Winner

I'm a little behind since we were busy hosting 100 quilters at our first ever KT & Friends Retreat last week.

Happy Quilters at the KT & Friends Retreat

After literally laying around napping through movies all day yesterday, I'm back at it today, trying to catch up. Here's the winner of our KT Tan Jr Layer Cake & As the Wind Blows pattern.

koberg - I just love the precuts in the tans cuz you always seem to need more of them!
Congrats! Email us at lynne@ktquilts.com with your shipping info and Robert will send your goodies right out.

Prairie Wind

At our KT & Friends Retreat last week, I shared my Layered Patchwork method in this quilt featuring flying geese. We started with a KT Favorites III Layer Cake for an easy, scrappy look. The ladies were delighted to learn a new way of looking at flying geese to simplify and perfect them. It was, after all, Summer School at our retreat in the Bennington High School.

Prairie Wind
My Layered Patchwork Flying Geese are made with a background rectangle with a triangle layered & stitched on top.
1. Cut a tan background rectangle the size you want your flying geese to be plus seam allowances.
2. Cut a dark square twice diagonally to create 4 triangles. This gives you a bias edge on the 90 degree edges so there will be no raveling.
3. In the bottom row, you can see the gold triangle and tan rectangle. The gold triangle is placed on the tan rectangle, bottom edges aligned.
4. Glue in place and topstitch 1/8" from the bias edges.
Your block measures the exact size you want.
