July Giveaway

Sheila Fisher, please send your snail mail address so we can ship your prize for June - a Summer's End pattern booklet and 2 Summer's End Candy Bars.

Time to announce the new giveaway for July. We've just sent the next installation of patterns for the KT Stash Society to the quilt shops - wanna get in on them early??? This month, you will take home all 5 of the latest projects - 2 are pictured at left.

Any advice on allergies? We're living in the middle of a wheat field with a pasture of brome grass next door. My head can't deal with all the pollen flying around in the air. After doctoring through the usual sources for years, I'm seeking some non-traditional sources this week, but would take any help/advice you all can give.
I'll update you later this week.
Lynne

  1. Hi Lynne - I, too, suffer greatly from allergies and have tried oodles of things - Ohio isn't exactly the best place to live if you have allergies! Anyway, one old "trick" I was told about was trying to eat honey from your local area - it is a great way to build up your immunity to the local "crop" of allergens. The projects are lovely and will certainly be a coup in anyones stash! Happy Stitching!

  2. I'd love to win your July giveaway! As for allergies, I'm afraid I can't help there. I'd love to know a good way to fight them too.

  3. Ooh another great giveaway! I can't help you with allergies sorry, my family have been blessed and none of us suffer any type of allergy or hay fever thank goodness!

  4. If you don't have one already, get a NeilMed sinus rinse kit - you can get them from most drugstores. It sounds creepy and looks like it will hurt, but it helped my allergy problems immensely.

  5. Congratulations to Sheila! I love the KT Stash Society patterns you've shown us! As for allergies, I was going to say local honey too. It really does help. ;-) Along with my meds, I also use antihistamine eye drops too. Good luck!

  6. The patterns look so inviting. Thanks for the giveaway. I can't give you allergy advice because I have none (knock on wood). Kathie L in Allentown

  7. What cute patterns. I don't have allergies and neither do my children, hopefully it stays that way, so sorry, I have no advice there. I hope it gets better for you :)

  8. I've never suffered allergies (knock on wood) so no help from me..sorry! But do appreciate your great giveaway! Thank you!

  9. I have heard about the honey. Try drinking vinegar, it seems to work for everything. Dilute it with water.
    Love the giveaways

  11. Would love to win the July giveaway. I will second the NeilMed Sinus rinse pot. You can find them at Walgreens or similar drug stores. It works pretty good. Also , what farmhousequilter is referring to about the honey, is taking a tablespoonful of honey local to your area. You just take it like cough syrup.Good luck!

  14. I live on a farm so I understand the allergies. One of the best things I have ever done was purchase a neti pot and I use it daily. After you get over the ick factor, it works wonderfully. Instead of purchasing special salt packets, I use canning salt.

  15. Sorry about your allergies; but don't have any advice for them.
Would love to win your July giveaway...as I love anything that has to do with Kansas Troubles.

  16. My hubby suffers from allergies too, but we have yet to find him some relief. He has tried the neti pots faithfully and prescription Claritin. So I do not have any helpful suggestions. Thanks for a great giveaway :-)

  17. Thanks for doing this awesome giveaway! AS for the allergies, my husband has been rinsing his nose with water every night, to help get out the extra "junk". That might help~

  18. I was getting them bad for awhile, now they seem ok, not sure why.
The only thing I do to boost my respiratory system, is to drink C Crystals every night. I used to get bad bronchitis and that has helped keep it away.

  19. Sorry, I do not have any advice for allergies but I do have advice for the giveaway. I love it and and I want it. I really do love the patterns and would love to win your giveaway. I am a new quilter and this would be a great start to my collection.
Thank you for the chance to win.

  22. I love my neti pot...it helps! Also a prescription nasal spray with cortisone in it really helps. Hope you get some relief soon!

  23. Big move towards using the neti pot more...otherwise over the counter antihistimine or allergy pills from the doctor. Would love to win your giveaway! Thanks Deb A

  25. Saline mist several times a day. Pharmacist in family says: Claritin is good, but you must take it for a day or two before you see real relief. Thanks for entering me in the giveaway--would love to win!

  26. Lynne - I feel your pain with the allergies. I was in the same boat for 30 years! A year ago I learned about a non-traditional treatment that has eliminated my allergies completely. Not just seasonal pollen allergies, but food allergies as well! Please go to www.NAET.com and read about it there. Plus you can find a local practitioner in your own area. It has changed my life forever! Feel free to holler at me if you have any questions, and good luck!

  27. I like the Summer's End bag and pillow photos. Please enter me into your July KT drawing for your latest patterns. Thanks. mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com

  28. We use claritin for allergies. It's ok, but nothing seems to work reall well. I would feel very honored to win this awesome giveaway.

  29. Would like to enter.......

As for allergies, have you tried Nasalcrom? It takes a while to kick in but I find it helpful with Southern spring allergies. Helps the symptoms and does not make me lethargic like oral antihistamines.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm chiming in with eating a spoonful of honey from your local area too..........supposed to work.....I've think I've outgrown all my pollen alleregies.....I can't remember the last time I took allergy medicine and I used to take it all the time. I should have invested in kleenex, benadryl and zyrtec years ago, I'd be rich!!

  31. Try vitamin C, and eating spicy food thins the mucus. Thanks for the chance to enter this months wonderful giveaway.

  32. Hi,

One simple trick, wash your face before going to bed at night if you don't shower at night. Washes off all of the pollen that's collected.

Love the new give-a-way! Five patterns... WOW!!!

  34. Hi Lynne-
Sorry about your allergies! I too suffer from allergies to everything! The grasses here in Montana are going crazy--I try to stay indoors and use the AC.

I would love to win some patterns! Also, I would like a list of KT Stash Society shops as I have been unable to find one in my area. Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Netti-Pot, as seen on Oprah, used twice a day. And I live on Musinex-D as well. I also have a prescription for Nasonex. If it is any consolation, I thought I would get away from alleries when I moved from Kansas two years ago, and it is much worse here (Utah). Who would have thought! And please add me to your give-away drawing.

  36. sorry to hear about your allergies. a search online says to avoid pollen release times, and don't go near them at those times. "Grasses release pollen from about 7:30 a.m. onward, but if the ground is damp, the release will be delayed until the moisture is evaporated. A few species of grass wait until the afternoon, so there will be some pollen entering the air all day." hope you find a good solution.

  37. Lynne, I'm not sure if you have 'Vasolene' in the US, it's a petrolium based gel. If you do try a small amount in your nostrils; because you coat the hairs in your nostrils there's nothing for pollen & dust to stick to. It feels a bid odd at first, but it worked for me. I'd love for you to pop my name into your give away

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would love to win the give away. As for allergies, I take a Claritin Redi-Tab daily. So far it seems to do the job. Otherwise, with all of the hay being cut I am in misery. Good Luck.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have quite a few friends that had success with accupuncture for allergies. Maybe that's too far outside the box for you? Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sorry, I'm no help with the allergies. I use Claritin, my daughter uses Zyrtec! Good luck.

  41. Sorry to hear about your allergies. I feel your pain, I live in rural Indiana. If you find something that works let me know. I have heard about the local honey, but have never tried it.

  46. Put my name in for that drawing! I'd love a new project or two. My daughter is highly allegric to EVERYTHING! Besides disposing of our wall to wall carpeting and replacing the flooring with hard wood (i.e. easy cleanup) the best everyday remedy that has helped her (including the wheat pollen in Eastern Washington) is a heppa filter. I purchased a portable heppa filter that we move around room to room depending where we are spending a majority of our time and it ends up in her bedroom each night. Believe it or not --- it has HELPED tremedously! Give it a try!

  47. Sorry to hear that you are suffering with those nasty allergies. I got some relief from garlic and horseradish capsules but you start taking them before allergy season. Might help for next year. Count me in for the give away. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks for the giveaways.
A nettiepot from the drugstores - they are by the overthe counter meds is great.
local honey builds up immunities too!
    Good luck - Colleen

  49. Please enter me in your July giveaway. I can't give you any advice on allergies as I am fortunate not to have any. *Knock on wood!* Good thing, too, as I am surrounded by grass seed fields!

  50. Local honey, a teaspoon a day.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sorry to hear about your allergies ...try a Netti Pot, it helped my husband.

    Thanks for the great giveaway.

  52. Since I have to walk those wheat fields, along with any other agriculture field with my allergies, honey does work. Doesn't even have to be local, just fresh and raw- not cooked. I still end up needing Flonase when there is really bad crop dust and pollen in the air though... makes for a good excuse to go inside and quilt!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thanks for the chance to win the giveaway! I have no allergy advice, sorry, but there seem to be lots of folks with good ideas here :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I would love to win this giveaway. Thanks for the chance to win. I too suffer from allergies and I don't have any secret remedies to help. They seem to get worse the older I get. Good luck with finding some good advice. Thanks Karen M

  55. Love the Summer's End pillow. I was just looking at that line. I love the colors. When my allergies stuff up my head and airways, I breathe the steam from a facial steamer. It relaxes the airways, clears the sinuses and gives you a better complexion!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I suffer from allergies as well (and I live in a city!). I used to use Drixorel, which worked wonderfully until horrible people figured out how to make crack from it. Now it's off the market. I use Sudafed and a prescription. They help some. I can't take a lot of the other otcs because they put me to sleep and I don't think my bosses would appreciate me sleeping on the job! I never heard of the Netti Pot, but I plan to look into it. I also hadn't heard of the honey, but that actually makes sense, given the properties of honey, so I'll definitely look into that. Good luck - allegeries are the pits.

  57. hello! please count me in for this great giveaway. i don't suffer from allergies, lucky me, so i don't know any good tricks. i wish i knew, lots of my friends have similar problems...

  58. oh those are cute patterns and would be horored to give them a home. I've lived in the midwest all my life so I know all about allergies. I've heard the neti pot works wonders but I haven't tried it yet my Dr. did prescribed a nasal spray that seems to work it is called Flonase.

  59. Oh, what a great giveaway. I would love to win it! I have no allergy advice....sorry.

  60. lovely giveaway! i suffer from hayfever too, and the only non-medical ways of treating it i know are sunglasses all day every day, vaseline around your nostrils and keeping your windows and doors shut early morning and evening when the pollen rises and falls.

  61. I'm a fairly new quilter and just discovered your fabric line fairly recently. Love, LOVE all of them, and can't wait to get my hands on some more. Is there anyway to get past projects or get them by mail? No quilt shops in town and we don't leave travel much. Anyway, wanted to tell you how I'm enjoying your fabric, site, and inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  62. No advice on allergies, I need the same help, so I have been reading all the comments. Doesn't matter where I go in this country, or at what time of year, I still have allergy issues. So do my boys. I am going to hunt down a netie pot and give it a try.

Thanks for the chance at a giveaway. Hopin' I win

    ReplyDelete
  63. Local honey helps build up natural immunities to the pollen in your area. A neti pot helps prevent sinus infections by clearing out the pollen. Use the premeasured packets for the neti pot as it is balanced to your body chemistry, no guessing. Costco brand non-drowsy Claritan works well too. Sign me up for your drawing, love your new line - have already purchased a jelly roll and a layer cake - waiting for border material in August!!!

  64. As for the allergies, I use zyrtec and take it at night... makes me drowsy. Also the ENT Dr. mentioned the neti pot. I haven't tried that yet but hubby uses it all the time. Our local honey is another thing I have been using since earlier this year... in my tea and in and on assorted foods. Hope you get some relief.

Thanks for a chance at the July give-away. Love the two projects shown! ~Karen

  65. I too suffer from allergies. I have done a lot of things and I'm not sure which one helps the most--no wall to wall carpet, allergy coverings on all bedding from the box springs to the pillows, no heavy curtains, no hanging laundry on the line, allergy shots, Veramyst, Allegra, Pataday eyedrops, and saline sinus spray especially if I've been outdoors much. I tried the netipot, but just couldn't get it done.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  66. I love the samples. I would love to win. Hope you are feeling better soon. Bevelry in Missouir

  67. I love your fabric line and would love to win your giveaway!
My husband did the allergy shots and they really did help.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Your my favorite Moda line out there, love to win some. As for allergies, I live in Ohio so I have them. I have found pure organic honey helps, a tsp a day, we installed a 5" filter on our furnace/AC unit which helps out a lot in our home. A cold gel face mask helps out with the pressure. Good luck

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have no allergies, so no advice. Does that mean I'm not qualified to win? I'd sure like a shot at this great giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Great giveaway! Please count me in! I can't help you with allergies. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  71. My daughter swears by Claritin, my sign uses the netti-pot!
Wonderful giveaway...could I please win? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Allergies are not fun! I take 2 shots weekly so can't help you. I would love to be a part of your give a way.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I have Celiac, but am also sensitive to the gluten in the air (wheat, barley, rye and oats). So, I'd have a tough time where you live, but for a different reason. My nutty advice is to close the windows 2 hours before going to bed, airfilters, drink a lot of water, and then drink some more, and don't hang your clothes outside to dry (especially night clothes and towels). If that doesn't work, I have some hoops you can jump through :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. I have been wanting a Neti pot. I've heard they really help. For now, it's good old generic Loratadine for my allergies. Doesn't completly knock it out, but it sure does help a great deal. Without it, I am a mess! Thanks for the opportunity to win some great patterns!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Local UNFILTERED honey and sinus rinses. Everyone I know swears by them.

My hubby has an allergic reaction to something anytime we go back home to his parents in El Dorado. We can't figure out if it's the refinery, the cat, or the oldy-moldy basement. Or maybe all three. We've learned that he just has to start popping Claritin non-stop starting with 12-24 hours before we arrive.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I hope I can get the hang of this. It is so new to me.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I am excited about the new Summers End can't wait to see it in the stores!

    ReplyDelete
  78. my niece is very much into natural remedies. we've had problems in our family with allergies. for me it's been several medicines and a lot of fresh tree fruits or raw nuts. roxanne said to eat the honey from the area. i make a big effort to do that and can eat much more fruit at a time without a problem. don't know if that will help you or not.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Have you tried ear candling? It's amazing! A cone shaped cylinder is place just inside the ear canal and is lit. As the candle burns the cone shape works like a vacumm pulling all the impurities (yeast and wax) out of your ears. Since the ears are connected to the nose and throat it helps to relieve allergies. It's worked for me for years.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Would love the win the July prize. Hay fever? We have it at our house, too! Uggh!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Lovely giveaway...

Hay fever sucks, I resort to meds, but also use a nasal spray made of real sea salt twice a day. You know how good your sinuses feel after a day in an ocean breeze? Apparently the chemicals in the water are good for your sinuses.

I am listing your giveaway on my blog giveaway list today! - Mary

  82. Thanks for the July giveaway. All the projects look wonderful. Good luck with the allergy issue. I know many that suffer from allergies and it must be very annoying for you. Good luck

  84. I hope you feel better soon. When my little sister lived in Korean she started using a neti pot and it worked wonders for her. I love the pillow and who couldn't use that bag. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  85. I almost missed a chance at this giveaway. Five patterns would be beyond awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  86. My husband has horrible allergies. He uses a nettie pot that really helps ...it took a bit for him to get used to. I also stop hanging the laundry outside when they are bothering him.

Hope you get some relief! Thanks for the great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Thanks for the giveaway! As a pharmacist and fellow allergy sufferer, I find that I have to take a daily antihistamine year-round. I take generic Zyrtec or Claritin at bedtime every day. Then, when I occasionally have flare-ups, I take generic Benadryl. I emphasize generic on all of this! I do find that I may develop some tolerance to my daily antihistamines, so once I take a full bottle of one type, say Zyrtec, my next bottle will be Claritin. I buy the largest size of generic I can find--usually a 90 or 100 count. Haven't tried a NetiPot, but I have heard that people have had some success with them. A saline nasal spray works as an osmotic diuretic to draw fluid and congestion from the sinuses also. Just be sure to throw away any bottles used when you have been sick. Afrin nasal spray (or generic) is only to be used for a max of 3 days due to its strong likelihood of causing addiction. The local honey with honeycomb eaten everyday is a long running and known beneficial plus delicious treatment! Maybe you wish I had just asked for the patterns, huh?!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'll second the advice about getting a Netti Pot - weird to do at first, but it works! And thanks for the chance to win!
