Yes, I'm still alive and kicking. Thanks for wondering. Returned home from CO (where my iPad wouldn't let me blog easily except at McDonald's) on Sunday evening to take a breath and was greeted at the door a day early by my two grandsons, Cooper (11) and Rowan (9). So, we hit the ground running Monday morning trying to pack a whole summer's worth of fun in a week. Swimming, fishing, exploring, painting, shopping, eating, landscaping, rearranging furniture - they've been really good help to have around. I can vacuum or plant twice as fast when they're moving furniture and hauling dirt/digging holes for me. And they think it's great fun! Of course, the reward is going to the pool or a trip to DQ for ice cream. Totally worth it to me. However, their pullout bed is in my sewing room so it's hard to get to my computer thru all the water guns, shoes, clothes and wet towels. I love having them here, but glad I'm a Gramma and not a full time Mom anymore. Whew!
The ladies in Grand Junction, CO at the guild and at Quilters' Corner Quilt Shop were a blast to hang out with last week. Here are a few pictures of the variations on my Square Pegs quilt...
It's an hour later and I realized I shot video instead of still camera shots. So sorry ladies. We had such a great variety of fabrics - bright kid prints to plaids, KT to batiks. All very cool. I downloaded a program to convert a still photo from a video but it will take a while to master it. Geez, technology makes me feel dumb.
The second workshop was Just a Little Loopy using a charm pack and a Honey Bun. By simply centering a HB strip across the center of a 5" charm square and stitching close to the pinked edges, you create a rail fence block. How easy is that? We used the extra HB strips to make a loopy border, pillow and decorate the top of a quilted bag. Three projects from 1 Honey Bun! The ladies were delighted and did a great job. I always enjoy my trips to Grand Junction. Thanks again for inviting me!
I'm announcing the giveaway for this week a little late so be sure to comment soon. A Harvest Moon scrap bundle will be yours if you comment by Monday night. I'll announce the winner on Tuesday - promise.

There's nothing like being around kids to bring back that good old summertime feeling we had in our youth. Can summer ever be as good as it was then? I think not, but it would sure help a bit to win some Harvest Moon scraps!

I remember my grandmother taking us kids for weeklong swimming lessons in the summer and then staying with my grandparents and other family at the family cabin in Gulf Shores. My grands are too young for most of the fun you describe, but I look forward to any time I get to spend with them. Thanks for posts about your family and fun.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I luv to have the sleepovers and luv for the grandpeeps to visit but I'm glad I'm a Nana in the drive way waving goodbye and blowing them kisses...by that time I'm exhausted and welcome the quiet. Thanks for the chance to win a Harvest Moon scrap bundle...(o:

ReplyDeleteYou've nearly described my summer so far. Spent a week at a fishing resort with my three sons and two grandkids. Then two weeks with the grands at my house (their sleeping quarters in my sewing room). And getting a lot of help with gardening! I've never seen so much ice cream and freeze pops disappear so fast. Finishing a resort themed quilt in the next few days, then I'll be ready for a new project.....

Sounds like you had a great week with your grandchildren. Fall fabrics are my favorite, thanks for the chance. Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteI have fond memories of summer weeks spent with my grandma in Missouri, and at my aunt's farm in Kansas. I learned so much from both of them - how to sew, embroider, crochet, how to make jelly and jams. Fishing for sunperch and catfish with my grandpa. Fish fries and homemade ice cream with all the cousins. Glad you enjoyed your Grandma time! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteTruly enjoyed reading this blog :) Your relationship with your g/sons reads super; plus I love your Honey Bun story with the Grand Junction ladies!

I keep hoping you will be teaching somewhere near me, but so far... No luck! I was thrilled to finally find charm packs of Cat Tails and Clover at the NQA show last week! Thought my collection was going to be incomplete. I have at least one of every line since they have been available... (can you tell I'm a fan?!)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the HB idea and for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy all the time you can with those grandkids!! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteOur 11 yo grandson Connor will be here next Tuesday and will stay until Thursday, he has to get ready to go to his Christian camp the next week. We so love to have him, always have, and especially now since he is getting older, I know our time of summer fun is running out. That fact makes me very sad. But I will lap up all I can get while I can and have wonderful memories to get me through. I too love Grand Junction CO Lyn. There is an area, way way up the mountains, what the locals call the land of 1000 lost lakes. It is breath taking beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely have to take the time to check that out the next time I'm there. Thanks. LMH
DeleteWaiting to pick up my husband when his 25th High School reunion stag night is over. What better way to pass the time than to browse the blog.

The only thing I like better than fabric is my grandkids:-) Glad you had so much fun with yours!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win some of your fabric. I am addicted to Cattails and Clover as I make 3 quilts, a jacket and table runners. Hope to be able to show you the jacket when you are in Danville, Il in August!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win. It certainly is better to be the Grandma rather than the parent. I had my little grand daughter here today as she was sick and couldn't go to daycare.
