KT Winner Week #5
Congratulations to Paula for commenting last week. You're the winner of a Layers of Love book. We're hoping to have them by the end of the month, so hang in there! Of course, you all will the first to know.Layers of Love Week #6 - Bronson's Christmas Wish
Bronson is especially loved by everyone in our family. He was born with multiple issues and has not only survived, but thrived, proving that disabilities don't mean disabled. The doctors said he wouldn't walk - he not only walks but goes up and down stairs alone, swims, and kicks a ball. They said he'd never speak - he's learning to communicate thru a computer program, but definitely makes his wishes known. He is strong, determined and admired by us all. He reminds us to be thankful for our gifts and talents everyday.A KT Holly Wishes Jelly Roll provides everything you need for a simple rail fence block. Layer and stitch gold triangles on the ends of the outer strips before piecing them together for spinning pinwheels as the blocks come together. For me, Christmas quilts need to be fast & easy with lots of red & green charm - this one fits the bill perfectly. Whip up a coordinating pillow topper with a few leftover strips.
KT Bernina Fall Workshops/Demo's
At KT Bernina Quilt Shop, we're offering some new classes this fall beginning with a fun little runner that was featured in Primitive Quilts magazine a few years ago. Heads or Tails Runner is pieced with a charm and a mini charm with raw edge layered flying geese. So easy - you'll never lose your triangle points again! We'll be offering a 3-hour workshop ($20 plus kit $20) or a 1-hour hands-on demo ($10 plus kit $20). You can bring your own machine and sew in the KT Retreat space surrounded by inspiration while you stitch up the runner in just a few hours - OR - come in and try out Robert's Bernina's during a demo and make a few blocks, then go home and finish in the comfort of your own sewing room. Either way, we hope you join us while we share my layered patchwork technique and some of the new projects from the Layers of Love book later this fall. Check our website by Aug. 1st for a complete list of the fall workshops or call Jamie at 785-488-2120 for more information.
Thanks for stopping by this week. Comment here about what you like/don't like about quilting workshops. I'd love to know your thoughts. We're giving away another Layers of Love book, so don't be shy!
I've been quilting for nearly 20 years, but only doing workshops regularly for the past few - I love them for the simple reason that it's spending time with "my own kind"! The workshop attendees automatically have lots in common and it's always fun!
ReplyDeleteI really started my quilting life in a workshop and love how much you can learn from instructors and from the other participants. And I want to thank my Bernina salesman, Steve :-) for gifting me that beginning!
ReplyDeleteworkshops are always fun. they are a chance to learn new things and spend time quilting with your friends;
ReplyDeleteI have only experienced workshops twice and found myself not getting much done, but the time spent with friends was oh so fun!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a workshop. I think the social part would be great.
ReplyDeleteI don't enjoy the prep work involved in workshops, but I have a good time once I'm actually in class.
ReplyDeleteQuilting workshops are how I learned basic quilting/sewing skils, so I'm a huge advocate and fan of them. They are also a great source of support and encouragement. Whenever I get into a slump and have no motivation to quilt, I go with my mother in law to class (that's what we call it) and I catch the quilting bug again! :)
ReplyDeleteI love going to quilting retreats and workshops. You meet such wonderful ladies and just have a great time learning and sharing ideas.
ReplyDeleteI have only been to one workshop, and it was very basic. I would love to take a more advanced class in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to my FIRST workshop this Friday--cannot wait! Have always wanted to try your layered method, so would love to win the book... Ruth in FL
ReplyDeleteI've taken a few workshops and really like it when the instructor comes around to check my work and see if I have any questions. I took a class from a well-known quilter who spent a lot of time talking with her "groupies" and had a lengthy show and tell session of the quilts class members had made from her patterns. I won't be recommending her classes nor will I take another one from her.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear about Bronson's progress!
Unfortunately workshops are too far away from me so I don't go to them. But I love to learn new things.
ReplyDeleteWhat... dislike something about a workshop? NEVER!! I love learning something new and taking that idea home with me to play! It's fun to meet new quilters and to see what they are doing...I also LOVE show and tell of any kind! A nice lunch with goodies is always a good thing...but not necessary...just a nice addition to an already wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteTake care and happy stitching!
Paulette
Workshops are pleasant, but they aren't if the teacher is bossy!
ReplyDeleteDid you see Kerryn (The Country Yard) Facebook page with the quilt top we made for our up coming class using your book & ruler?
I have not taken a workshop yet but would love to some day.
ReplyDeleteI just wish I had the time and money to take all the workshops I would like to take.
ReplyDeleteSomeday I hope to take one of yours.
Good luck to Bronson. We have a grand daughter with similar challenges.
I have never been able to go to a quilting workshop but I sure would love to. I think that one thing that would be important to me would be that we could work at our own pace. I tend to sew quickly, as I don't have a lot of time to sew and I need to make the most of it.
ReplyDeleteI sure would love to come try out the BERNINA's! I just tookone on for repair.....I've had it for 22 years! I hope it isn't dead!
I wish I could say that I've been to a quilting workshop, but I haven't. I'm sure they're fun and very helpful. Maybe some day...
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to go to a quilting workshop! Maybe when I retire. It would be a chance to meet new quilting friends!
ReplyDeleteBronson sounds like a very special lad. His quilt is made with a fabulous pattern. Love the effect of the corner triangles turning into pinwheels. I haven't had the pleasure of attending a quilt workshop but certainly hope to one day.
ReplyDeleteI've never attended a quilt workshop, as, there wasn't any near to me so I am completely self taught, but would love to learn more FMQ.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to learn quilting techniques, have a blast with friends and meet new friends, meet quilting legends...attend a workshop. Receiving materials about the technique is appreciated. Having the option of catered meals is something I like.
ReplyDeleteI love taking workshops. You learn so much and meet new friends. My feeling is, if I learn one thing I didn't know when I walked in the door, the class was a success, no matter how small that information is. If you don't grow in your knowledge, you get stale in your creativity.

I love workshops - the chance to learn new stuff and meet new friends !
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a workshop and would really like to. Bronson sounds like an amazing boy....his determination is inspiring. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWorkshops are a great way to learn new things and pick up tips and helpful hints from others. I do like when the teacher has handouts that walk you through the process; otherwise I take notes so I remember what to do when I'm working at home...then I sometimes miss things or get behind. I wish I had a photographic memory! : )
ReplyDeleteI love taking classes and workshops--even if it's a project I'm not crazy about, I always learn something and have a great time. My pet peeve are the people that do not do the prep work and drag down the rest of the class.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of taking a class or workshop is actually visiting with my fellow quilters! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi, I think workshops are always fun! Really a chance to learn new things+spend time quilting with your friends; I've learned lots of great hints from others! Thanks for sharing!

I like workshops because they are always a fun day away & a chance to learn something new that I have been wanting to learn.
ReplyDeleteI love workshops and all the inspiration charging around the room!
ReplyDeleteI have taken around 4 workshops and each one was very good. I always learned something new. I think the workshops I have been too worked because the instructors were prepared and the class kept an even flow even for those who might be slower.
ReplyDeleteWorkshops are wonderful ways for quilters to learn a specified new technique PLUS learn additional tips & information from each other! I don't think I've ever attended a workshop where I didn't walk away with BONUS info!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE workshops. Always come away with new tips, new friends, new energy and a new project - what's not to love? :D Ann in NC
ReplyDeleteWorkshops are always fun and a great leaning experience, plus I get to spend time with other quilters. The one thing I find frustrating and it doesn't happen very often is if what is is suppose to be covered in the workshop, doesn't happen, especially if it is something I don't know how to do. My solution to that problem is to just ask the teacher how to explain it to me.
ReplyDeleteLove quilting workshops. Inspiration is all around. Seeing what others choose and how it comes together. It is also a time to meet new friends.
ReplyDeleteI love the workshops because I get to meet lots of new people. I have made some wonderful friendships that way.
ReplyDeleteAnn P.
Love workshops, so many ideas. I can always learn a new and easier way from quilters.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a workshop. Am looking forward to your new book I have the five and dime, love it .
ReplyDeleteI love the quilty friendships formed from making new friends at quilt workshops. The only thing I don't like at workshops is if the class area is too crowded, or you have to wait in line to press at the iron stations.
ReplyDeleteI have not been to a workshop since my nearest shop is an hour away. I think the best part would be meeting new people.
