KT's 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways - Day 2

KT Winner Day 1

Congrats to
Marie - 5 quilted (small) gifts and 1 rug hooking gift.

You're the winner of our Day 1 giveaway - a trio of winter patterns. Please send your mailing address to lynne@ktquilts.com and we'll send out your goodies soon.

12 Days of Christmas Giveaway- Day 2

As I explained yesterday, my gift to you for the holidays is a marathon of giveaways over the next 12 days. Each day we'll feature 3 KT patterns (or a book) starting with winter, through spring, summer and fall themes and finishing up with our newest designs. Since it is the holiday season, a little elf at KT (Jamie) is planning to add a quilter's surprise to each packet of patterns. Who knows? It might be a scrap bag of Christmas, a charm pack for spring or a KT ruler or template.

Without further ado, here's our giveaway for Day 2 - a trio of holiday patterns including our Dreamin' of Christmas pillow sleeve, Deck the Walls charm pattern and Light up the Holidays Mini Table Treat. Wrap up a few fat quarters with one of these patterns for a quilting friend and watch the smiles!

Comment here by 10pm each day on your favorite fast & easy holiday cookie recipe. I need some ideas!

  1. I learned to cheat when making peanut blossom years ago by using a peanut butter cookie mix. Now, they actually advertise it on the cookie pouch. My mother in law did this for years before anyone caught on! The reaction from her husband was hilarious when he saw her with a mix in her hand.

  10. For quick and easy, we like to dip oreos or peanut butter and ritz cracker sandwiches in white or milk chocolate and add a few sprinkles. Or just make snickerdoodles with red and green sugars or sprinkles instead of cinnamon and sugar.

  11. An easy quick favorite is to melt some chocolate or white bark and pour into a sheet pan. While still warm add some chopped pistachio nuts and dried cranberries. Let cool and break into pieces.

I make what my mom made when I was a kid. She would make cutouts, spritz, chocolate chips and peanut butter blossoms. I hope to do some baking on Saturday when the guys are gone. Maybe, I have some by Christmas.

  17. It has to be Boiled Cookies (some people call them No-Bakes). My boys (now grown) can make them without the recipe, they have made them so many times! Always a favorite.

  18. Gingerbread pan cookie. It may be cut after baking with cookies cutters or just into squares

  19. I have a collection of Brown Bag shortbread pans. There are several with Christmas designs. So I I get lots of pans filled with dough (which is just made from butter, powdered sugar, flour and vanilla), and let the baking begin. I have three ovens and can do 5 pans at a time (one oven is small--only accommodates 1 pan). It keeps well and comes from the freezer as nicely as if it was just baked.

  20. I have been reminded this year of a cookie roll that my mom used to make. It consists of mini marshmallows, chocolate and coconut. Google it and they might be called stained glass cookies. Best part is you don't have to cook them.

  21. These cookies are easy and, besides leaving the dough in the refrigerator to chill (you can go sew in the meantime!), quick! Plus they look magnificent. Use a scalloped pie crust cutter to make them even fancier!!

BUTTERHORNS -- got this recipe from my sister-in-law

    1 C softened butter (margarine) 1 C granulated sugar
    2 C flour 1 C chopped nuts
    1 egg yolk 2 t cinnamon
    ¾ C sour cream

Mix butter and flour together. Mix egg and sour cream and combine with flour and butter mixture. Chill dough for at least 2 hours. Divide into thirds and roll out until slightly bigger than a pie plate, thin. Combine sugar, nuts and cinnamon and sprinkle mixture on dough. Cut dough into pie wedges (about 2 ½” wide, each third making approx. 14 wedges.) Roll up starting from large end. Bake 25-30 mins at 375º.

These are rich & delicious & a holiday tradition in our house. Enjoy!!

  29. Grandma Russell's peanut butter no-bake cookies have always been a family favorite. She would always create a unique Santa or snowman container and fill them with these cookies for all of her children and grandchildren. Fifty years later they remain a very special memory and our most requested Christmas cookie~

    Peanut Butter No-Bake Cookies:

    1/2 cup Karo syrup
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 cup peanut butter
    2 cups Special K cereal

    * Heat syrup and sugar to boil.
    * Remove from heat, stir in peanut butter, add cereal.
    * Drop by spoonful on metal tray or waxed paper.

So quick and easy, we usually quadruple the recipe. Happy baking and Merry Christmas~

  31. All the dozen Lombardo cousins get together each year and make cookies using recipes our mothers kept mostly in their heads. Each year we work at being able to write down the quantities so the recipes won't be lost. One recipe calls for 15 eggs, 12 cups of flour....etc. etc., We'll skip that one for you! The fastest is Almond Paste cookies, just tossing 2 cups of almond paste, 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup egg whites and a pinch of Baking Powder in the food processor, grind up, and drop by teaspoons on cookies sheets, topped with two sliced almonds that look like wings. Bake for 15 min. at 350!

  33. OH how fun. Surprises are always great. The fastest and really loved cookie recipe I do almost every year is the Copycat GirlScout Thin Mint recipe. SUPER easy and quick.
Melt Chocolate Almond Bark in the microwave, stir in a tiny bit of Peppermint Oil (about 1/8 t) and then dip Ritz Crackers in the mixture and let them harden. As you finish dipping each one, put them onto the shiny side of Freezer Paper so they don't stick.

  39. OK, this is not a cookie...it is candy, but it couldn't get any quicker or easier.
    Peanut Clusters
1 pkg chocolate almond bark candy coat
    1 can salted cocktail peanuts.
Melt the chocolate according to pkg directions, stir in peanuts. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper, allow to cool until hardened. These are so good! I've had many people ask for the recipe and I'm almost embarrassed to tell them it has 2 ingredients. I have already taken these to several events this month.
