KT & Friends Retreat II

 Appleton, Wisconsin - August 10-13

It's time to kick preparations into high gear for our August KT & Friends Retreat in Appleton, Wisconsin this year. After missing last summer's gathering, we're so excited to see our returning quilters and all the new faces who are joining us.

The teachers for our WI retreat are Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings, Barb Groves of Me & My Sister Designs, and Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles Quilters (Hosts).

Robert and Joy have been fielding questions at the store, so I thought I would answer them here for everyone.

What you need to know:

In May, you will receive an email from KTQ with questions about who you're attending with, where you're from, etc. Please make sure Robert has your email address. We will also send a supply list of basic supplies needed for all workshops in June.

Covid-19 - We recommend each quilter receive a Covid vaccine before attending our retreat. Please bring a mask. Mask and social distancing requirements will be determined based on CDC recommendations at the time.

Hotel/Transportation - Our retreat is at the Red Lion Hotel Paper Valley, Appleton, Wisconsin. Please make your own hotel/travel reservations. A shuttle is available from the Green Bay airport to the hotel. Parking for those driving to the retreat is in city-owned parking garages conveniently located across the street from the hotel. $5/day maximum parking fee.

Sewing Machines - We are unable to provide sewing machines for rent. Please make arrangements with the hotel if you decide to ship your sewing machine before the retreat.

Payments - Robert will be available for you to make credit card payments for the retreats beginning April 15th. You may call the store 785-488-2120 Tuesday thru Friday 10am-5pm CST, Saturday 10am-3pm to work out the details. We are happy to split the payment into two charges, if you prefer  - 1/2 in April, 1/2 in June.

Registration - August 10 - 11-12:30pm - Each classroom group will be assigned a color. You will register/unload during specific times based on your color group. Don't worry, everyone will be in their places before the workshops begin at 1:00pm.

Workshops - Workshops begin at 9am each morning Wed, Thur, Fri. You will be in 2 workshops with each instructor over the 3 days of the retreat for a total of 6 workshops plus 6 kits. Each designer will teach a lap size quilt project (see below) and a small Make 'n Take project. We hope you'll have three things finished before you leave. What fun!

Sewing Time - Classrooms will open at 8am each morning and remain open until midnight.

Food/Drinks - Coffee, tea and water will be available all day beginning at 8am. You must use the travel mugs provided for drinks to avoid spills in the classrooms. Breakfast is served in several of the on-site restaurants (not included). Lunch will be served.

Shopping - Each designer will take a turn sharing their quilts in a trunk show before dinner each evening. Lisa, Barb and Lynne will have items for sale after their trunk shows and during classes.

Unloading/Loading - We will have at least one teen to help unload/load your sewing machines & supplies.  Aleece did a great job at the first retreat and is looking forward to seeing you all again this year. Tips are appreciated.

Lisa and I are teaching the same projects for both the Bennington and Appleton retreats. I can't wait to try Lisa's large blocks with her expert tips for making the canoe units. Barb is sharing one of her most popular quilts, Love Shack. What a great way to get a head start on your holiday stitching. My Prairie Stars quilt features my latest fabric collection, Prairie Dreams, in big, easy blocks. I'll share my Layered Patchwork technique as an option, too.

  5. If we can’t attend the retreat, can we purchase supplies to stitch the Prairie Stars quilt. How about a zoom class for this quilt. I’m too far away to attend.
