Moda Blockheads 6
(Kansas) Crossroads
I'm delighted to be part of BH6! For Week #2, I'm sharing my Crossroads block (it really should be Kansas Crossroads, right?).
I chose to make two options in upcoming KT fabric collections - Wheatland (August 2025) and Bluebird's Nest (October 2025).

Both versions feature light backgrounds, but what if.......? I love how the lighter blue pops off the dark background, don't you? There are so many ways to color this block. What will you choose?
When I have time (maybe someday?) I'd love to make a lap quilt out of these blocks!
TIPS
1. I use Terial Magic diluted with water - 2 parts water:1 part Terial Magic. Prepping your fabric with starch or sizing BEFORE cutting helps stabilize your fabric for more accurate piecing.
2. The rail fence blocks are perfect for testing 1/4" seams. Sew all three strips together; press seams open, the unit should measure 3 1/2" square.
3. For the center quarter square, cut the 5 1/2" square into fourths diagonally to create 4 triangles. This ensures the outer edges are not on the bias for less stretching. This measurement also allows you to trim this unit to a perfect 3 1/2" square. Just center your ruler at 1 3/4" on the block intersection to trim.
4. Press seams open on the block units. This helps your block lay flatter. I also like to use a clapper to flatten seams as I go. Seams pressed in alternating directions are utilized when sewing the block rows together for opposing seams.
