Thanks for hanging in there with me, ladies. I swear I'm going to hire some help soon - just as soon as I can find a quilter with computer savvy and time on her hands....Oh well, I can dream, can't I?
This week's edition of Charming Thursday features my second baby line, Farmyard Friends. By this time, there were 4 grankids - 3 boys and a girl. We definitely needed a little pink in our lives, so Farmyard Friends had a blue and a pink colorway with the adorable animal print to coordinate with either. The stars of the book were the 2 newest grankids - Aleece (15 months old) and Bronson (7 months old). It's funny that the photographer had to use 2 discs to get all the shots for this book when he usually only needs part of one, hmmmm...... Guess it's harder to catch kids smiling than quilts.
The baby bed is the one my Gramma Ethel (Dad's mother), my Dad, his brother and my brother and I all slept in as babies. Dad sandblasted layers and layers of paint - no doubt some lead based - and repainted it for me just for these shots I actually had to stop him from making it too perfect. He offered to drag up and down the gravel drive, but we stopped short of that.
Now these little guys are 6 and almost 7 years old! Aleece has one of the Farmyard Friends books and proudly takes it to school each year for show and tell, explaining that it's "her" fabric and quilts. She loves it so much I made her first twin "big girl" quilt out of it, as well. She has her own stash of this line at my house and is very protective of it. I hope we can make time this summer to piece a little doll quilt from the scraps - if she'll give them up!

I have none yet, still waiting.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric, it is so cute and since I have no grandkids, I would love to make some charity quilts for the children's hospital.

What delightful photos and memories of your Dad and grandkids! We are in a time period between our boys reaching adulthood, but not yet parents. Very ok with that, but couldn't they at least provide us with a Grand dog. Oldest son and girlfriend have cats and birds. Trying to love them all:)
ReplyDeleteOur day will come, if not, we'll borrow friends' or neighbors' grands for our own:)
I would love to have grandchildren and I might within the next year. My son is finally getting married next month and he says "by this time next year...!"
ReplyDeleteWhat darling quilts and beautiful grandchildren. I don't know, but how do they grow up so fast? We are lucky enough to have 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice blog tale. I have 4 granddaughters and love being Nana. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteMary

ReplyDeleteAdorable!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Ghee Ghee to 4...two boys 8&5, and two girls 3&2...and it's the best thing EVER!! I'm hoping that one of the grands will be a sewing partner for life...and I'm holding out hope for the 2yr old (she's a riot and we are very "sympatico"!)
Thanks for the great photos and story!
So cute. I have one Grandson, Kaden, who will be 3 years old next week!
ReplyDeleteI have an 8 yr old GRANDson, he's autistic. I'm teaching him to sew and he wants to make a quilt for my cat, Olivia!! Pictures are wonderful and thanks for the chance to win!!! Bev E.
ReplyDeleteNow this could be difficult, I don't have children so it follows I don't have grandchildren either, do Great nieces and nephews count!! They live in the UK and I now live in France, when my G.niece was little I would talk and see her via Skype, she use to think I lived in the computer!!! I had to have a trip back to UK to show her I was real.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to live near your grandbabies! My "babies" live on the opposite side of the country, and they are growing up WAY too fast, 15, 12 and 10 yrs old now. But my "adopted" daughter is having a baby in 7 months....just enough time for my to find the perfect fabric and make the quilt! SL Warren
ReplyDeleteThe quilts are adorable. I am not blessed with grandchildren, but have been making baby quilts for my niece and nephew's future grandchildren. I would love to add this quilt for them. Thanks -- Lana
ReplyDeleteHow very cute the crib looks with the pretty little quilt.. have a wonderful day! Happy Quilting... Onalee
ReplyDeleteWe have one little grandson - 9 months old - and he's the happiest baby I've ever met. We just love spending time with him and we can't wait till we get more little ones.
ReplyDeleteOh! No grandkids yet, though I have my fingers crossed! I never had any grandparents around myself, but I love the joy my own parents have given to my kids, and I'm looking forward to doing same. I'm ready to teach a new generation how to bake cookies and SEW!

no kids and no grandkids --- but lots of little grandnieces that I love - last night we were picking peas in the family garden and the oldest grandnieces came into the field - they both wanted to help pick peas - the eldest started eating them raw off the bushes and the other started picking up dirt clods and throwing them down -- in a few minutes they were filthy dirty -- just what their respective mom's wanted right at supper time -- they were full of fun questions and busyness - gotta' love them
ReplyDeleteA great baby theme...my girls are 3 and 6 months ...so I don't have any grandkids (obviously :)) but thier Geema & Pappy enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteI have two grandsons ages 11 and 8 and a granddaughter 15 mos. Christopher drew a picture of his grandpa and me that hung in his room for grandparents day when he was in kindergarten. As I looked at the picture, I saw squiggles all over my top. I asked him what the were and he told me they were threads because I was always sewing or cross stitching something and always had threads on me.
ReplyDeleteAriya would love to have something made out of the Farmyard prints. Hope it could be my turn to win. LOL
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have been able to include your grandchildren in the book! :o) I'm sure they'll enjoy looking back on that when they're all grown up.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't even have any kids, yet. I do have a new baby niece, though...
No grandkids, but lots of nieces and nephews. They are usually too cute for words, but the boys can sometimes act up, especially since my sweet hubby trys to catch them and play with them. Lovely pictures, and a very lovely quilt.
ReplyDeleteI have no grand kids yet. Kids finishing college and grad school but I enjoy hearing about everyone elses!
ReplyDeleteWhen my son tells my 2 year old grandson that I am coming for a visit(10 hours away), he always says cookies. We have starting making cookies each time I visit.

ReplyDeleteWe are blessed with 8 grandkids, ages 5-20. The 4 youngest are sisters, ages 5-10, They are all the light of our lives. I just made a college quilt for the oldest who will be a freshman next fall. They all have quilts, probably too many if that's even possible. It's a way for me to express my love for them and they do seem to truly adore them!
ReplyDeleteNo Grandkids yet... but I do make a lot of baby quilts for friends Grandkids. Nice to have another choice of fabrics! Thanks Lynn!

I have one 10-month old grandaughter, who is the light of our lives.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any grandkids yet but am anxiously waiting for some when the time is right. I would still like to be entered in the drawing. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI have eight grandchildren 4 girls and 4 boys.aT the oldest is 10. What's amazing to me is that with all the toys, games, etc. They are more interested in the finer things of life...chasing lightening bugs, chasing each other, picking dandelions and eating popsicles. Grandchildren are God's best blessing.
ReplyDeleteI am Grammie to a beautiful 3 month old granddaughter with a headful of dark hair. She lives a long way from us so we cherish the moments we have with her.
ReplyDeleteI love this post - thank you for keeping it up. It's perfectly fine, and normal, to really note like thing sometimes.
