A Quiet Beginning to the Holiday Season
It's beginning to look alot like....Robert and I spent the weekend visiting with quilters at the store who stopped in for our Gift Certificate specials. We ate lots of turkey and pumpkin pie, binged on Netflix, and started the Christmas decorating at the cabin. Instead of a big tree, I string garland and lights along our 8" deep windowsills and scatter with rustic holiday cheer - wooden deer and trees cut out of logs, shiny stars on bed springs and birds of all kinds. I love that pinecones and stars and trees last much longer thru the winter than Santas and Christmas specific decor. My tiny tree fits in a plaid tin this year.

ReplyDeleteI love the candlelight service at church and the singing of O Holy Night. hedgehog52@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteI love the holiday light displays.
ReplyDeleteI love baking Christmas cookies. I make cookie trays for my neighbors and deliver them personally before Christmas Eve...so fun :)
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas tree in a plaid container adds a nice touch. You have stuffed those canvas bags with some great goodies
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the holiday baking. I make many cookies and give most away. I have some elderly neighbors that I give cookie plates to and they enjoy them every year.
ReplyDeleteI love putting out my Santa Claus collection. Some are hand made by my mom, some by me. Love being with family as well.
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas for decorating without a big Christmas tree. Every year, I feel guilty about a tree giving up it's life just so I can decorate it for 3 weeks. I hope you and Robert have a marvelous Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteMy fondess memory of Christmas is coming into the house after school and being welcomed by the smell of the fresh cut tree.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is so much a family time for me. I didn't have siblings growing up, but entered into a family of five who love every bit of being family and enjoying the holidays.
ReplyDeleteLunch with friends, pine cones, decorating the outside of the house, baking cookies and the look of anticipation on children's faces are my favorite things about the holidays.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday thing to do is to just sit with hubby and watch the tree lights twinkle while listening to music. Simple pleasures are the best. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway!
The smells! Pine, cookies, mulled wine!
ReplyDeleteRemembering the true meaning of Christmas--Jesus is the reason for the season.
ReplyDeleteLove everything about Christmas, the smells, the lights, the garland everywhere. Especially love my grandkids helping with the decorating and looking forward to putting up the little advent tree. Special times.
ReplyDeleteHaving all the family home and all the good food, thankful for all of this. Small ceramic tree the last few years, it sparkle also
ReplyDeleteI love making Christmas cookies with my family. It's a family tradition that I hope continues for many years! (Even though all three kids are in college right now!)
ReplyDeleteWe have given up the big pre-lit tree for much simpler holiday decorating . I like it much better and it is so much less work after Christmas. This year I am decorating the small front porch with greenery and a Santa pillow on a bench. It will be a warm welcome for friends and family!
ReplyDeleteWe still have a tree. Since I was little, my family always bought or made one special ornament to represent something that happened or some place we went that year. Without a tree, I'd have no place to display all these memories!
ReplyDeleteHoliday favorites are times spent with the kids and grandkids. The twinkling lights and the little nativity are always the best! The pure joy and wonderment on their little faces makes the heart happy!
ReplyDeleteCrazy but true...After the tree is decorated and all lit up we turn off all the lights, sit together and just stare at the tree. Perhaps it it pure exhaustion or the warm feeling that the holiday season has begun. The dogs seem to get into it, too. Peaceful.

ReplyDeleteChristmas is a quiet time for us, now we live in a different country from our family, but we still enjoy the time leading up to it.... especially love the Christmas markets.

ReplyDeleteLove everything about Christmas! Decorating, buying and making gifts, wrapping and the anticipation on my grand babies faces as they try to figure out what Nanny got them. Definitely my favorite time of the year!
ReplyDeleteYour decorating is so pretty - I love the holidays and try and use handmade in most of decorating! I missed the Dec sampler bag - out of stock but maybe I will get lucky! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love all the decorations, some are from my grandmother, some my children made when they were little, some I made. I love seeing what is in each box.
ReplyDeleteI love Christmas especially now that I have grand children. I have a tree that only has lights and the Christmas ornaments I buy each of my 5 grandchildren each year. I love how they gravitate to that tree trying to find the ornament I bought for them for the current year. The ornament symbolizes either a major accomplishment they have done during the year or their Santa present that was left at Nanny's house. On the ornament box I write them a little note usually telling them how proud of them I am and how much I love them. When they get their own home they will get all of their ornaments and hopefully read my notes and cherish our many Christmas memories together.
ReplyDeleteSome of my Christmas favorites are getting out and hanging on the tree the ornaments I've collected over the years, going to Christmas Eve service at church, and seeing the magic of Christmas through my granddaughters' eyes.

ReplyDeleteI love everything about Christmas- decorating our home, spending time with family and friends, baking, wrapping presents, etc.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
Merry Christmas, Charlotte
Not much I don't like about Christmas, the family activities, music, snow, lights. Maybe the crowds. Those I can do without. I'm trying to put away the boxes after getting out the decorations. I have grandkids that love to decorate and I have lots of Santas that need to be set out. I'm getting so I would be happy to do less but as long as the grandkids do the work, the boxes will keep coming out. How generous you are. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteChristmas doesn't begin until the day after Thanksgiving. My favorite is getting out all the decorations and finding new ways to display them. I hang a Christmas quilt on the landing stairwell railing. There are candles and wreaths and knick-knacks aplenty. Finally the lights go up and the tree. I try to get all my kids together to trim the tree. They each have one ornament from when they were born that's 'theirs.' Once they hang that, we are all ready to go. Thank you for such wonderful designs and lovely fabrics.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is spending time with my family and enjoying eating special treats we enjoy at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI love getting to spend time with my 2 grandkids. They live in another state so a couple of years ago I made a Gingerbread House with them & it has become a tradition.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy getting to see family. Some of them it is only at Christmas. I also enjoy the decorations and food!
ReplyDeleteCelebrating Christ's birth and reading Advent stories is one of my favorite things. :)
ReplyDeleteDecorations look beautiful and peaceful too. Or should that be " pieceful "?
ReplyDeleteI just love everything Christmas. The smells of Christmas are truly one of my favorites. The tree, the baking, the dinner. I also love the chaos that comes with all 17 of us gathering in my fairly small house......
