Blockheads Week #28
Jan's Pumpkin block has arrived just in time for fall. Kathy made her block with cotton prints, while Joy made her block out of wool stitching the pumpkin ridge details. Customize your pumpkin to suit your quilt.Find Jan's Pumpkin Block #28 on her blog.
Question of the Week: Do you have any machine quilting tips?
Ok, this is a question I can relate to. (Hand quilting, not so much.) I quilt small projects on my Bernina like Mini Table Treats and pillow toppers and runners. Otherwise, Joy quilts almost everything else. She's better at it and I usually don't have the time. To make my machine quilting look better, I use Aurifil 50wt. thread in a matching color with a size 60/8 needle. It's a little challenging to thread a needle that size, but when stitching in the ditch, it makes all the difference. My stitches virtually disappear! Try it sometime and let me know what you think.I've been traveling more than I've been home the past month so keeping these posts short and to the point. See you next week!

I am having trouble viewing the instructions. They will not come up when you click on the block number. Is anyone else having trouble???
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get it either??????
ReplyDeleteFor machine quilting...I LOVE using my quilting gloves!!! They truly help keep the fabric in place, plus they help me control the fabric and the stitching
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get the pattern either. My computer says, " Well that didn't work."
ReplyDeleteI really like watching tutorials for ideas on quilting. It always helps to see other people's ideas.
ReplyDeleteTo get this pattern go to Betsy's Blog, then go to Jan's blog and get it that way. As far as Machine quilting, I love to do free motion by listening to music. It makes me relax and not be tense while I am working.
ReplyDeleteI am having trouble also.
ReplyDeleteI use a Steady Betty to press my quilt pieces. Fabric doesn't stretch. It makes my piecing much more precise.
ReplyDeleteWhen you use the Aurifil and 60/8 needle to stitch in the ditch, please tell me what stitch length you are using on your machine. Thank you!
