We're on a countdown to November when my new book, Cozy Quilts and Comforts will be released by Martingale. I can't wait to go to market to hold the freshly printed pages in my hands. The color photos are beautiful and make our primitive KT Retreat space shine like a new penny.

This week's sneak peek is all about Stars - a Galaxy of Stars and Spinning Stars. Who doesn't love star quilts?
Our original Gallery of Stars featured Moda's precuts - a Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Pack plus border made the quilt on the wall using traditional piecing methods. For such a simple quilt, it really shines. My Layered Patchwork version on the bed has raw edge gold star points for faster, easier piecing. We still used a Jelly Roll and Charm pack, but opted for an assortment of KT tans for the large squares. Totally different look, still shining bright!
One of the other star projects is Shining Stars. By adding layered triangles to the corners of background squares, it creates a whirling, scrappy pinwheel star that's sure to please. A mini table runner option is also included in the book. Did you have a child-sized ironing board and iron when you were a kid? Who knew we'd love them just as much as adults? (Believe it or not, the green iron actually had an electrical cord to plug in and heat up the iron. I cut the cord off when the grandaughter figured out what a plug-in was when she was about 2 years old. How did we survive?)
Comment this week to win a signed copy of my book, Cozy Quilts and Comforts. I can't wait for you to see it!

ReplyDeleteYour quilts look great can't wait to see that book! I am curious what the background fabric is that seems to make a recurring theme in your quilts it really ties them all together and it such a soft warm color. Those ironing boards are so cute, but where did you find that washing machine? Love it!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get my hands on this book! Yes, my sister and I had iron's and ironing board's as a children. I can't believe that we survived, my sister's Spirograph came with straight pins to secure to a cardboard mat. We all survived and thrived. Toni Anne ;->

A star quilt is on the to do list & but a star block is being made for my guild's Quilt of Valor. In my hazy recollections I remember a toy ironing board & I must have loved playing with it as ironing became my chore when I was tall enough for the real ironing board. Also, I learned how to wash clothes on a washing machine like your little toy.
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric colors and that they are interchangeable in all your fabric lines. I never had a play ironing board. Started ironing my own clothes at age 12.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of the new quilts are beautiful, love the use of navy in your borders. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteLove the little ironing boards and irons . . . . I have a pink set from my childhood!

I love the "Galaxy of Stars" quilt hanging on the wall - it amazes me how the fabric shines when given enough room.

ReplyDeleteOh, your child size iron and ironing board brought back some wonderful memories for me! I used to iron along side my mother with one of these and the iron did get warm (but not too hot).
