Block 15 - Friendship Stars
Cheers to a block celebrating our friends, who are there for us through fat quarters (thick) and Honey Bun strips (thin). These simple blocks utilize basic half square triangles (HST) and add visual interest and motion to a quilt.
My tip is to piece each unit of the blocks and trim to the exact measurement. The completed block will be perfect! The star points and block corners are HST. The center unit is quarter square triangles. I cut the D & B squares oversized for these, just like HST, so I can trim after piecing. Be sure to measure from the center intersection when trimming quarter square blocks.
Note the pressing instructions. When sewing the three blocks together in a row, you'll appreciate having opposing seams on the center block.
The finished section with sashing measures 12 1/2" x 22 1/2". You can piece Section #1 together at this point with a Log Cabin block, (2) Arrowheads and the Kansas Troubles block.
Also this month, we're piecing the HST filler blocks. Please note that the HST section #1 measures 16 1/2" x 2 1/2", not the 10 1/2" stated. The HST are made in two sections for easier assembly in Part #20.
Have fun with this week's Friendship Stars block. I'll meet you back here on August 30th for Kansas Sunflower.
I've been missing your emails. is this a quilt along? I really like this block.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is a king size quilt with 20 blocks. We've been stitching since January, but it's never too late to start! Find our 20 Years of KTQ quilt at ktquilts.com under Books, Patterns, BOMs.
