For the spring green, purple, tan quilt, Spring Morning, she used flannel as batting for three cuddly layers of softness. In the remaining quilts - Autumn Days, Christmas Eve, and Winter Nights - she used thin or medium-weight cotton batting for different levels of warmth.  I would recommend my Country Road booklet with two quilts, each in two sizes for lots of options. Both feature simple piecing either in staggered strips for Rambling Road, or stars & checkerboards for Crossroads. We have a few kits left with a Country Road Layer Cake, but they're easily cut from fat 1/8's, as well.
