Post Christmas Poundage

So explain to me how eating less than a pound of cheesecake equals 5 pounds gained on the scale? It just makes no sense to me! Obviously I've done my share of indulging this past week with celebrations at my Mom's house and at the KT Retreat with my kids/grankids. All 14 of us snacked, played games, opened gifts, ate some more and laughed until we cried. It's the first time in years that all of them have been able to spend the night for Christmas. I forget just how funny my kids are. A wonderful time was had by all.

As for the giveaway last week, congratulations to scottylover. You're the winner of the KT Loose Change book and set of 2 rulers. Enjoy! This week, we'll be giving away a Pheasant Feathers booklet and Charm pack. The booklet is being edited this weekend and printed next week, so it'll be hot off the presses. Joyce Spaulding, you'll finally get your Pheasant Feathers booklet and mini charm in the mail, too!

All 4 of these projects using my layered patchwork for easy, peasy blocks are included in the booklet along with another pillow topper using a single star block. So much fun for so little! The lap size quilt features a Dessert Roll - one of Moda's newest precuts. It features (20) different 5" x WOF strips from Pheasant Hill that make the blocks and much more! Just 4 more fabrics are needed to complete the quilt with enough leftover to make a pillow or runner. What a deal! Watch for Dessert Rolls in your favorite quilt shop in March.

Let me know how you celebrate New Year's Eve or your wish for the New Year. Ours will be quiet, as usual, after having grankids in and out all week. More good food, but I think I'll pass on the cheesecake. My jeans can't take it!

Enjoy the rest of your holiday season and a Very Happy New Year to all!
Lynne

  1. That cheesecake is sneaky, isn't it? I like to stay home on New Year's and play games with the kids. Of course, we have all sorts of dips and snacks too. The kids have lot fun shopping and planning out their ice cream sundaes.

  21. We've been a stay home family over the New Year holiday and my hopes for next year is tranquility. Too many items this past year have been unexpected stressors (home/auto items popping up with necessary repairs, with time/money needing to be squeezed in somehow)....gosh, my pants are now being more squeezed, too. Humphhhhh :)

  30. I have the same problem with pumpkin cheesecake, but I swear it adds 10 pounds per slice...but maybe that is the latte to go with it at Barnes and Noble! New Year's Eve will be quiet, but we will get to see our son and fiancee (just engaged!) a bit on Saturday morning on their way through.

  31. Ours will be a quite New Years Eve as well. As for next year I hope to learn more on my LongArm quilting machine so I can do quilting for friends. Thanks.

  32. New Year's Eve will be spent making dinner and enjoying it with my mother. This holiday is one we always try to spend together because my dad died on that day, 10 years ago this year. NYE doesn't hold the same meaning for us anymore, but we make the most out of it by being together, playing some cards, eating good food and just spending time together.

  33. After hosting the family dinner (21 adults and 4 kiddos) I will be spending a quiet New Years Eve. Plan to have a nice steak, caesar salad, baked potato and relax! Have decided that the family is getting to large to host. Renting a hall will have to be the next option since there were 10 missing due to other obligations and it was a Zoo with the ones who made it. I was so busy I don't think I ate enough to worry about excess pounds.
Have a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

  34. My sisters-in-law & I were discussing that same poundage issue. Someone had gifted Mary with a 1 lb Whitman's Sampler & she thought it wasn't fair that she'd gain at least 5 pounds if she ate the whole thing. Our New Year's Eves are usually pretty quiet - we do stay up to watch the acorn (Raleigh, NC) come down on TV, and then sleep late, if the cats allow. Happy New Years & thanks for the chance to win (love the pattern).

  35. We have always celebrated New Year's Eve quietly at home. We do hold to the New Year's Day tradition of eating black-eyed peas!

I will probably spend New Year's Eve at my second job - working at a local movie theater. I love working with all the teens and young adults - their joy and exuberance (and shenanigans) keep me on my toes!

Love the pics of the projects in Pheasant Feathers.

  36. Our idea of a great New Years Eve is to celebrate on New York time- we live in Utah- and then go to bed:-) Happy New Year to everyone!!!

  37. This year we're planning a fancy sit down dinner for the adults and pizza downstairs for the grandkids. We try to have a nice adult dinner during the holidays with our family, this year it's finally going to happen on New Years. Generally, we just go on to bed, not great party animals, hubby and me. Thanks.

  38. We will spend time with the grandkids and try to stay awake to see the ball drop on tv at times square. Love your fabric and patterns and a chance to win some.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR, LYNN

  39. We will spend a quiet New Years Eve. Might do a small turkey or ham so I don't have to be a slave to the kitchen on New Years Day. If my son and his fiance make it over we'll probably play games or cards. Very low key, but I sure like it that way.

  40. I have a very quiet New Year's Eve....usually watch it come in on tv and look forward to my boys calling after midnight. Haven't gone out with hubby for years to celebrate and that is ok with me. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  41. My wish for the New Year is to have more hours in the day so I can finish up those UFO's hanging over my head and causing stress! I did a lot of snacking (more like grazing)over the holiday too, and I am paying for it now--rats!

  42. We're starting a new tradition this year -- hot chocolate outside to watch the sun come up and then breakfast with neighbors and friends to follow a little later.

  44. My husband and I celebrate New Years, by going to "Watch-Night" service at our church. It starts at around 7 pm and ends after midnight. Lots of singing, eating, a message, and prayer. Can't think of a better way to "ring" in the New Year. Especially this year with all of the turmoil in our nation and around the world.

  45. We always stay off the road where the crazies are and make WAY more snacks/appetizers than we can eat. In fact, I could probably invite the entire neigborhood and fire department and still have leftovers. LOL OH and that champagne at midnight of course. I am working on the menu this morning and trying to cut back, but it is SO hard because I want different types of snakcs from spicy, sweet, cheesey and Chex mix types... Of course, THIS is how I always end up making so much food. LOL But, it also means we don't eat most of the day and then the following day (or four) we have snacks if I don't feel like cooking. This is also why I try to balance out the snacks with good for you things too. ugh. Am I the only one that makes this menu such a job to pull together? LOL

  55. How I celebrate the New Year's Eve is to go to bed around nine, same as any other day. My wish for the new year is to have as great a new year as I did in the old year. I feel very lucky to feel so contented.

  59. New Year's Eve includes a nice dinner out with the hubby--early enough that we are back home before lots of party goers are out and about. My hope for 2013 is that all are blessed with good health and time to enjoy family and friends. Happy New Year!

  60. I will be getting much needed sleep on New Year's Eve. I will be meeting up with several girlfriends on New Year's Day to sew our annual mystery quilt. We have lots of food and laughter during our day.

  61. The way I like to celebrate New Year's Eve is a quiet evening at home with the hubby. The holidays are always stressful and we need that time to chill out and unwind. Add a cross stitch project or a binding to sew on a quilt and it makes for the perfect way to end the old year and bring in the new!

  62. On New Year's Eve, one or more of the grandkids will come over. We'll cook and watch TV. Some of us will stay up to watch the ball drop and others will fall asleep trying! LOL My wish for the New Year is for health and happiness for my family. If they're happy, so am I.
