Soakin' up the Sun

KT Scrap Bag Winner

Congrats to Jodi Connors of Mountain Gurl Quilts. You're the winner of this week's scrap bag giveaway. I have a pile ready to go, just send me your address at lynne@ktquilts.com and you can start stitching!

It's been difficult to sit at the computer, looking out my windows and not go outside to sit in the sun - so I'm not going to fight it. After all, it's a good source of Vitamin D, reduces stress, gives me a little color after a long winter and totally lifts my spirits, so it's all good. I can check out the new strike-offs, edit patterns and figure yardage for a new quilt out on the swing just as easily as inside my studio. The first tulips of spring only bloom for a short time. Don't miss a minute of it.

Token of Friendship

The new Tokens fabric has arrived! Jamie unpacked the boxes a few days ago and made room for all the lovely shades of KT spring prints. Here's another look at the collection:

There are so many great tan prints in this one I used them alot in the Tokens projects. Simple piecing separates the tans to make the stars & pinwheels look like their floating and spinning in between. Love it! The star runner would be great for your spring table - or made up in red/tan/blue would be perfect all summer long. I've gotta try that one, too! Have a special friend you want to make a little something special? Our basket surrounded by easy layered patchwork hearts is the perfect fit.

Do you ever have enough tans? We've put together (20) of our favorite small tan prints and tone-on-tones in precuts - Jelly Rolls, Charm packs and Mini Charm packs. When added to a regular KT JR, Charm or MC, it gives you 30 each of darks and lights. It works great for those projects that require an even number of darks and lights or to make a project larger. Check it out at ktquilts.com under precuts.

The giveaway today is a Tokens of Friendship booklet and assorted fat 1/8's. You just never know what else might jump into the box!  Comment about precuts - love 'em or not, don't know what to do with them, can't get enough of them - I'd love to hear from you. I'm off to WI to the Nancy's Notions Sewing Weekend May 1,2,3. Would love to meet you there. See you back here when I get home.

  1. I do like precuts, although I haven't used them very much. I am off to a quilt retreat next week here in MI, and I plan to use a jelly roll to make a jelly roll jam 2 quilt.

  2. The only precuts I have worked with have been charm packs. I do love that they are already precision cut and ready to use. Thanks for your generous giveaways.

  3. I like precuts...charm packs are a good way to try out a set of fabric and see if I want larger cuts. And eventually, make a large charm quilt out of! It was nice to see the tulips...although central Texas does have it's own lovely flowers, I do miss the tulips and other spring bulbs I used to grow up North.

  5. Lynne, I absolutely adore precuts! They were especially helpful when I was in the very beginning stages of learning how to quilt. It's hard to resist a charm pack! Or any other precut for that matter. Have fun in WI. Oh yes, all of our bulbs are bloomed and done for the season. Although we have an Easter Lily we put into the flower garden last year that's about to bloom. :-)

  6. I like precuts, charm packs and layer cakes especially. I also LOVE Kansas Troubles tans! Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway.

  7. I love using charms to make small pinwheel blocks and tablerunners. The only other precut I have used is jelly rolls. Token of Friendship is a beautiful line.

  8. I've never worked with precuts - except, of course, for all the strips I pick up from the sharing table at my quilt guild. I would love to work with a matched set of fabrics.

  9. I love precuts ... Cutting is my least favorite part of quilting, and since I work with traditional blocks, precuts work perfectly and let me get straightaway to the fun part of piecing and quilting!

  10. I like precuts, layer cakes are my favorite. I find choosing fabrics for a project difficult. Having that step done for me is wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I love precuts for the variety. However, it is too bad that you can't prewash them if you need the whole piece. Sometimes they make me itchy allergy wise but I push through it. After all, it is for fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I love precuts too! All the pretty fabric gives me inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am addicted to fat quarter bundles, but I love all the different precuts.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like fat quarter bundles but haven't done too much with them. Love your fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I love precuts, bundles to help me color coordinate and charm packs are fun to make mini quilts with.

  16. I love pre cuts because I find I look for different quilts that can be made with them and it expands my normal quilting.

  17. I love precuts mostly because I can see the whole line! I used to like Jelly Rolls best, then Layer Cakes, then Jelly Rolls, now am becoming re-enamored with charms, and those candies are TOO cute! Now, can we talk about fat eighth and fat quarter packs? Those fall into yardage in my mind and I LOVE yardage!

Thanks for the opportunity - every one of your lines is my new fave - tokens is no different!

  18. I like the idea of pre-cuts...mainly not having to cut...but I do have a difficult time figuring out a pattern.

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  19. Thanks so much Lynne. I am so excited to have won last weeks giveaway. I love anything that comes from Kansas Troubles, it is my go to fabric lines! I love all your fabric. Precuts, right now is all I use, they are much easier for a new quilter to grasp than working with yardage.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I prefer fat quarters and yardage, especially if I don't have a project in mind. Love everything you do!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I like charm packs and layer cakes if I have a specific pattern I'll be making but would rather have yardage as I am always buying fabric with no idea what I'll make with it. I also like using yardage as sometimes I just don't like a certain print that comes in a collection and with yardage I don't have to try and decide what to do with the print I'm not fond of.

  22. I love most precuts, I've bought every kind of precut. I haven't used any of the jelly rolls yet and I'm not sure, what to do with the turnovers. My favorites are the charms, candies, layercakes and the 5x22's( forgot the name). The best part is that you get the whole line and it's all color coordinated. I with they had this years ago. Happy Spring! Toni Anne

  23. I really love precuts (I purchased Loose Change and both rulers from MSQ and just finished two pillows using the smaller one). Thanks for the sweet giveaway :)

  24. I really like Token of Friendship. Love precuts, especially charm packs or layer cakes, it's so easy to make up a quick scrappy quilt with them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I generally prefer yardage, but have started purchasing & using layer cakes & jelly rolls for specific quilts. Love your fabrics & can never get enough; my only limitations are storage & $$!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I just finished a fun summer bag in precuts, actually USED them! lol I think they are fun just beginning to understand the concept though. Jeannine

  27. I love precuts! I sew with 4 little ones under the age of 5 around all the time. When I don't have to pull out all the cutting blades all the time, I am excited! They are also great for teaching basics to the young ones!

  28. I just started quilting last September. I was inspired by the arrival of my first grandchild. Precuts are great for a beginner. It took a lot of the stress out of those first few projects. I'm more confident now and use them about 50% of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I never used to use precuts, but since buying your book "Loose Change"...I'm hooked! Thanks Lynne!

  30. congrats to the winner.
love those patterns. I have precuts but I don't know what to do with them. They just sit on my shelves looking pretty. :0)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love charm packs and layer cakes, but I've not had very good luck with jelly rolls. The jelly rolls don't seem to be cut a consistent width, anyway the ones I've worked with before.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love precuts for the variety and convenience they offer. I like the coordinated and scrappy look they offer . Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  33. As a new quilter I love precuts! Most of the cutting is already done, helps with accuracy, and I can see all the fabrics in the line and buy yardage of my favorites. I love your Loose Change video on MSQC and can't wait to make it...just need to get a ruler. Hope you have a great time in WI !

  34. I love the new line Token of Friendship. I also love those patterns. How do I get my hands on some of them??? I like the precuts because you get a lot of variety in the various fabrics. Most quilt shops don't want to cut less than a yard and it's too expensive to buy the entire line so the precuts are great for that reason. I used to think they were a waste of money but the more I use them the more I like them. I also like the precuts because I struggle with coordinating fabrics for a quilt and the precuts make it so easy.

    ReplyDelete
  35. These pre-cuts would be fun to use for scrappy projects, mug rugs, etc. Thank You for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love precuts, but have to admit that I don't use them for too many things. Mostly they sit on the shelf looking adorable!

    ReplyDelete

  43. Love jelly rolls and layer cakes....actually any precuts as they save time and are accuate cuts. These old eyes ain't what they used to be especially if the lighting isn't great!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It is nice to have the whole line of fabrics in one precut of choice. Sometimes more lights would be helpful. It makes the cutting process really speed up. Lana

  45. Funny you should mention precuts . . . just today I was surfing the web and found your interviews w/ Jenny Doan and Mary Fons, and really began to see the value and fun of precuts. Now I want to get your Loose Change book and go to town! It looks like so much fun!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm not a huge fan of precuts - I feel like they make quilts that are too 'matchy-matchy' and I prefer a true scrap quilt. Always make sure to include some of YOUR fabrics in my projects though!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love using precuts as they save so much time.

  59. I do like precuts but sometimes I like to put my own fabrics together and make it truly my quilt. However there are some beautiful materials in all your precuts and that makes life easier when you just want to "sew"... Give me fabric in anyway shape or form and I am a happy person.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Love using pre-cuts. I just forget to buy yardage to going with it for bindings or backing. Arg! Thanks for chance for the give away.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Love KT fabrics and precuts. Especially when the precuts don't waste scraps.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Precuts are a great way to have a sample of the fabric line but not the expense of purchasing a bundle of fat eights or fat quarters. They are also great for scrappy quilts.

  70. I love precuts. They are so fun and easy to use, but they are also just fun to look at, pet and collect!

    ReplyDelete
  71. What I love about precuts is that I have the whole line to put in a quilt if I want. When I use the precuts, the quilt happens a lot faster. I am not searching for that "just right" fabric, plus I have a smaller mess in my sewing room to cleanup. Love it that you have put 20 of your favorite small tan prints and tone-on-tones in precuts. BTW, Token of Friendship looks like another winner. I really like the runner pictured above!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Just love pre-cuts! Sometimes you just want to get in there and sew and pre-cuts make it possible!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Love precuts! Sometimes I just want to get to sewing and not have to take the time to cut.

  74. It is so hard for me to cut into those wonderful precuts! I have them in my quilt room as decoration, as i can't bear to cut them apart! My brother in law says it is like a store up there...Especially those little honey of a buns! Way too cute to 'unfurl'! I'd rather just stare at them and enjoy them whole!
