Robert and I are in TX for a few days visiting his youngest daughter, Jacque, and squeezing the newest addition to the family, Evan, born just a month ago. He must be the most content baby ever since all the pictures we've seen are of him asleep! Can't wait to meet him and see what his big brother, Eli, has to tell us.

,
To celebrate another grandchild (since Evan missed being in the Layers of Love book by just a few months) we're giving away a Layers of Love book this week. Comment here on grandchildren - yours or in general -to win. I'll have pictures to share of Evan with his eyes open next week!

  1. The only thing that would draw me away from the beach earlier than planned (with a 13+ hour car ride ... in one day, no less!) would be my grands. Those 4 have stolen my heart!

  12. Evan is a sweetie! We have four granddaughters. I have a red & white quilt that was used 13 years ago for our first GD to lay on and crawl on...it became our all year 'round Picnic Quilt. The 3 & 5 yr olds had a sleepover this past weekend and when we were ready for lunch they asked, "Where's the Picnic Quilt?" Quilts are such great memory makers! Thanks for the sweet giveaway.

  58. I have purchase the Layers of Love book, however, I have a question...Why do the directions say "Do not top stitch in seam allowance"? Why not?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Carol - When stitching the layered pieces, it is only necessary to sew close to the raw edge that will be exposed once the block is assembled. There is no need to topstitch the layered piece in the seam allowance. Check out the stitching in the diagrams in the book. Hope that helps. If not, call me!

  68. Lynne - I just found you on Moda's Facebook! Your cottage is so cute : ) We have 5 grown children and our younger daughter just announced our 11th grandchild will arrive in April 2015! My sister and I have sewn for over 40 years and are loving learning everything we can about quilting - we live in Texas and may find our way to your cottage in Kansas!! The Pink Bernina is SO CUTE - I sew on a 1950's Singer. My only 2 granddaughters live in Africa - it would be fun to teach them to sew on this little machine. I just sent over a quilt for the younger one - she's only 4 mos!! It was my first quilt to free motion quilt - it was SO fun!! jmschwarz@tx.rr.com

  69. There is nothing quite like being a grandparent, as I am sure every grandparent has said. There is a feeling in my heart that no one else has ever been able to elicit, I love them both completely and with each one it is for different reasons. I pray for them every day and for the world that they will live in. I also hope that they will meet the right person who will love them w/o reservation and who will bring out all that is special in them. I can not really express how I love them and how much I love them.

  72. Today is my first time to you site, after watching you with Jenny Doan doing 'Twirls & Swirls'. Your GIGGLES got me!! I am on a ROLL as far as GREAT Grandchildren are coming along. I NOW have a brand new gr granddaughter Melina, & am waiting for TWINS in January, AND another one in March! The twins are boy & girl' the one in March is not going to find out the sex, but it will be FUN! It's mother has just found out she has lymphoma cancer - RARE only 2% in the USA have had it, and she is only the second pregnant mom, now 19 weeks along.. She is on Chemo (CHOP) and Behold! BOTH mom & baby are both going to be FINE. So, when the one in March is born, that will make me the great grandma of EIGHT. I am MORE than happy to find new quilts to sew for these little ones, and also a COMFORT quilt for the mom with cancer. God is GOOD. 1/3 down with chemo & next time, in two weeks, it will be 1/2 DONE. Mom is being AWESOME, even when she lost all her long & dark hair. US WOMEN CAN and DO! Hugs from Idaho to you! (And thank you for letting me 'air it out!') Alene in Idao
