Paisley Park Preview Week #2

Paisley Park Fabric to arrive soon!

We listen for the rumbling of the UPS truck each day, waiting for boxes and boxes of Paisley Park to arrive on our doorstep. It can't be long now! As soon as the precuts arrive, we'll be kitting up some of the projects from the Layers of Love book and our Paisley Park patterns. This week, take a peek at Perfectly Paisley, a galaxy full of layered patchwork stars dancing amidst traditionally pieced 9-patches. A Layer CakeTM, background and 3 borders is all you need to create this
My layered patchwork method makes star points simple and
dimensional with no chance of cutting off points. Start with a
Moda precut Layer CakeTM for a whole fabric collection in one
 neat package.

We've layered triangles cut from squares & rectangles on top of the
tan background rectangle to create perfect star points. Just stitch
about an 1/8" from the bias edges of the triangles for the star center &
star point units. Piecing is totally simplified with fewer seams, less
pressing and less chance of distorting your base block. That means
a more square block and more perfectly pieced paisley quilt!

To win a Perfectly Paisley pattern & Paisley Park Layer Cake, comment here on the layered patchwork technique - thumbs up, thumbs down, want to try it. I'm eager to hear your thoughts.

Moda's Designer Blog Hop starts tomorrow! Don't miss a single day of designer inspiration, new product previews and tons of giveaways! The first designers up are Janet Clare Designs, Kate Spain, and Thimbleblossoms. I'll be up on September 10th. See you then!

  15. If I understand this correctly, you're basically topstiching fabrics onto the rectangles? Interesting, but I'd be concerned about the fabric raveling if it's washed. But your quilt is gorgeous.

    1. MaryBeth, Because all the cut edges are on the bias, there is no raveling. After washing, the bias edges curl and fray softly for a primitive, cozy effect. No loose threads all over your quilt!

  23. I'm fine with layered patchwork except that I am compelled to save the little triangles I trim out. That's fine because I love to make scrappy quilts with little pieces however, the rate at which I produce these little guys far exceeds my ability to use them. That's why I have drawers and drawers of little pieces...I will use them one day.

  47. I was challenged to make a quilt for each grandchild. At the time, I had 25. I've been learning as I didn't know how to piece and quilt. There are 57 grandchildren now and I am about 18 behind. The tutorial on Missouri Star using the Loose Change pattern was a real eye opener as finding a way to do a good piecing job quickly is a priority. The Loose Change ruler was purchased and is scheduled for my next quilt. Your method is a lifesaver to me. Thank you. LOVE paisleys.
