Hot in Kansas

KT Winner

Congratulations to jwilli - you're the winner of this week's bundle of KT binding scraps. Please send your mailing address to lynne@ktquilts.com and Jamie will mail them right out. Thanks to everyone for commenting. I truly enjoy reading all of your thoughts (and poems!).

Hot, Hot, Hot

You've heard of Hot in Cleveland? Well, I'm not hot like Betty White, but the heat here this week is making my skin melt. Normal temps for Kansas in June are mid-80's to maybe an occasional 90 degree day. Still plenty cool in the mornings and evenings to work in the garden or take a walk. This week, it's registering upper 90's to 100 on the thermometer with temps feeling like 110. Crazy! Good for the farmers harvesting wheat, but miserable for the rest of us. Great reason to stay inside and quilt! I'm hoping to check a few things off my summer to-do list this week while chillin' in the A/C.

Traveling Up North

Robert and I traveled to Naperville, IL and Oshkosh, WI last week to hang out with some amazingly talented ladies from their guilds. I shared my Layered Patchwork technique with a workshop on 30-Something at both locations with fabulous results. I think I've made a few converts to the frayed side!

A few great looking blocks!

Quilters from Naperville, IL

Quilters from Oshkosh, WI
Most of the quilters finished a few blocks during class and are comfortably on their way to recreating this lovely lap size quilt, 30-Something, from KT's book,  Layers of Love.

Along with a bag of scraps to get you inspired, we're throwing in a Layers of Love book this week for fun. Comment here about your summer quilting to-do list to win. And check out Carrie Nelson's blog at Moda Fabrics for a chuckle. See you next week!

  10. I just don't understand it, no matter how much I get done my list never gets any smaller...I am putting on the binding on a charity donation quilt, have to sandwich and hand quilt a queen size for my bed, and have three mini's in various stages of hand work. Love it...

  11. It is very hot here in NC too! I can't remember the last time our thermometer showed a daytime temp under 100....it's been around 102 - 103 everyday. Too hot for me! I have been too busy to even think about a summer sewing list....hopefully things will slow down and I will be able to get some sewing done in September.

  33. I'm hand quilting a king sized quilt for our bed, am in the middle of making blocks for one of Pat Speth's nickel quilts, am sewing up some 14" pineapple blocks (FPP), and am stitching together some 4" bow tie blocks (EPP) for my portable project. it's been unusually warm here too, so I've had plenty of time inside to work on my sewing. Good luck to whoever wins!

  45. I'm afraid my summer to do list is not very inspiring. I've vowed to myself that I would finish up all my works in progress before I started anything new. Darn. So I'm just dreaming about the next project. There's no harm in that, right?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm doing our guilds mystery quilt, studying to start a Lucy Boston quilt, finishing my daughter in law's red and green Christmas quilt, and making Christmas gifts. I live in Kansas also and stay in the a/c as much as possible. Can't take this 105+ degree heat indexes. Makes me appreciate what our grandparents had to put up with when they settled our state.

  47. I told my cousin that I would quilt two of you quilts for her, as well as having my 10 year old granddaughter stay with us in Central Kansas for about another month. You are so right we have spent a lot of time in the house with the A/C on. I'm hoping to get her to do some more sewing like she did last year. I also make a TV Lap quilt and a couple table runners for my brothers military annual reunion. They sell chances on them and then they use the money to help pay for the meeting room. All is good here in Kansas, but we don't have any wheat this year.
