KT Winner & More

KT Winner

I'm a little behind since we were busy hosting 100 quilters at our first ever KT & Friends Retreat last week.

Happy Quilters at the KT & Friends Retreat

After literally laying around napping through movies all day yesterday, I'm back at it today, trying to catch up. Here's the winner of our KT Tan Jr Layer Cake & As the Wind Blows pattern.

koberg - I just love the precuts in the tans cuz you always seem to need more of them!
Congrats! Email us at lynne@ktquilts.com with your shipping info and Robert will send your goodies right out.

Prairie Wind

At our KT & Friends Retreat last week, I shared my Layered Patchwork method in this quilt featuring flying geese. We started with a KT Favorites III Layer Cake for an easy, scrappy look. The ladies were delighted to learn a new way of looking at flying geese to simplify and perfect them. It was, after all, Summer School at our retreat in the Bennington High School.

Prairie Wind
My Layered Patchwork Flying Geese are made with a background rectangle with a triangle layered & stitched on top.
1. Cut a tan background rectangle the size you want your flying geese to be plus seam allowances.
2. Cut a dark square twice diagonally to create 4 triangles. This gives you a bias edge on the 90 degree edges so there will be no raveling.
3. In the bottom row, you can see the gold triangle and tan rectangle. The gold triangle is placed on the tan rectangle, bottom edges aligned.
4. Glue in place and topstitch 1/8" from the bias edges.
Your block measures the exact size you want.

Circling Geese - KT exclusive pattern from Cruise 2019. Kits available $99.

  2. My favorite retreat experience was one year when I took my sister with me to Kinderhook. On the 2nd day she just HAD to have a Starbucks. I'm not a Starbucks girl but I Googled the nearest location. There was one up in Quincy and, when we made the trip, Ta! Da! I found a new "favorite" quilt shop! Now whenever at Kinderhook I make the trip to Quincy to that quilt shop (A to Z Quilt Shop).

    1. A to Z Quilt Shop is a real treat to go to. It is my "go to" shop as I live just across the river in MIssouri. The ladies there are very helpful - it is just an amazing shop.

  4. Love the look of Prairie Winds! Love going to our Guild Retreats. Especially the winter one when you out the windows and see the snow coming down. You don't have to cook, sew with friends and just have a great time!

  11. I just love your Prairie Winds quilt! Thanks for sharing the flying geese information. The only retreat I’ve been to so far, was a knitting one and it was truly amazing to find a group of people from 27 states that just became instant friends because of the craft! I hope to improve my quilting skills and someday experience a quilting retreat as well!

    1. Hi Lynn, retreats are/can be expensive do you belong to a quilt guild? do you have a store near you? there are day retreats that can be formed as well just to share with other quilters that are in the same situation. I go to a store and sew on Friday's once a month for 6hours it is so much fun they were strangers that have now become friends.

  17. I am glad you had a great time. Sadly I have never been on a retreat as an adult. As a kid, just camps. On my list of things to do. quiltng dash lady at comcast dot net

  20. My favorite retreat experiences is waking up early and being the first to start the machine whirring into action. Plugging in the coffee pot for those that follow and seeing their smiles as we are ready for the day. I love that I don't have to cook clean or think about anything but the project(s) I have brought to work on. I love to see what other members are creating I do walk about's to the other tables and talk about the members projects only to have wanna do's at the end! I absolutely love retreats there are not enough in a year! thanks for sharing such a great time.

  24. I love retreats! I think my best time was attending my 1st retreat with a group of ladies I had gotten to know through an online group. We were from several different states. It was so much fun to meet the ladies and put faces with the names!

  26. Any retreat is a good experience. The fellowship around making a quilt doesn't get any better then at a retreat!

  27. Haven't attended a retreat yet, but have taken many classes over the years. Always love learning new things!

  28. Retreats give you time to focus just on quilting and enjoying the process. No distractions. Just bonding with your project and other quilters. Ahh

  36. No retreats here either, but when I was a young homeschooling mom, my husband took all four kids for the day four weeks in a row so I could go to all-day Saturday classes at a local quilt shop. It was bliss! The quilt I made in the class was for him, and he still loves it, 24 years later. Thanks for the chance to win :)

  37. I would love to go to a retreat someday but so far have not had the experience. Sounds like lots of fun.

  38. I have to try your technique--it looks so fun! I attend 4 retreats each year. They are all pretty free-form and everyone works on their own projects and that is my favorite part--seeing what others are doing and being inspired!

  39. Prairie Winds is a beautiful quilt. Thank you for a great giveaway.

  40. There are so many beautiful quilts, runners, pillows & more in your new Prairie Life booklet. I will be sewing with you in July & have decided to make the Layered Patchwork Runner with you. Your color combinations are so beautiful & can't wait to start on your Potluck & your Goose, Goose, Duck quilt. See you soon!

  41. Love prairie winds a bunch, I'm totally gonna have to make it soon. I remember piecing a bunch of layered patchwork geese for gooseberry lane, and your method saved me so much time and cutting. Hopefully I can make it to one of your retreats soon as I've never been.

  45. I thought I pushed the publish button & it accepted my comment, but it is easy to get confused. I have only been to one local long weekend retreat. And as nice as it was, I know there are wonderful things that await me, when I get an opportunity to be blessed with a week long or longer retreat, especially away in a different state. I love to travel, so travel isn’t a factor .... maybe it’s a tight budget, I’m not sure. No matter, the time will come out right. GOD has surely Blessed my life as it is, I’m sure HE HASNT. FORGOTTEN! I love your “Prairie Life” Pattern, & I would be honored to win it. The same for a chance! Keep in keepin’ in thanks for allowing me on your sight and chances to win!
