Week #1 - Crosswalk by Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles Quilters
Last fall at market, I challenged a few of my fellow Moda designers to make a charm quilt from a fabric line outside of their usual palette. Three bright designers, Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique, Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life and Barb Groves and Mary Jacobson of Me and My Sister Designs, lined up across the aisle from Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings, Lauri Simpson of Minnick & Simpson and me for a charm challenge. The rules? Send a charm pack of your latest collection plus a total of 1 1/2 total yds. of fabric to the designer on your list. Bright designers sent their charm packs to dark designers and vice versa. And so the challenge began...
I received my box in the mail from Vanessa - a charm pack of Lollipop Garden, a peach & white stripe, a white word print and a mint green word print. What a fun collection to brighten a cold, dreary, Kansas winter day! I played with the charm squares, arranging them this way and that, until a plan developed. Here's what I created with Vanessa's charming fabric.
And here's the same quilt in my Kansas Troubles' Favorites III fabric...
I LOVE how different, but how much the same, these two quilts look. Vanessa's low contrast colors and prints make the bright version the perfect backdrop to my spring and Easter collectibles.
My fabric works well in my home most of the year, adding a warm, cozy feel to collectibles on the antique dry sink. So easy to make for any season.

Check back each Wednesday thru July for a new charm quilt each week. Watch next Wednesday, July 3rd, for Sherri McConnell's charm swap challenge reveal. I can't wait!
