Winner of the Stitches charm pack is....

Gwen, you're the winner of the first charm pack giveaway - Stitches on the Oregon Trail! Thanks so all who entered. Come back again this Charming Thursday to try, try again for the next KT fabric collection, Stitches on the Oregon Trail II. FYI - comments close at 10pm central time on Sunday nights.

I was excited to hear several of you have read the Quilters Journals or made one of the quilts. In my cleaning/sorting/organizing frenzy, I found all the parts with extra pieces for the new KT Favorites - 10 Years & Counting BOM blocks & applique (sorry, no background or borders). Tell me what you like about BOM's or what you're looking for in a BOM to win the pile by Wednesday 10pm. I'll announce the winner on Thursday. We're in purge mode, so stay tuned!

  1. Congratulations Gwen enjoy your charm pack.
What I like about BOMs = fabric is chosen for you, you have a quilt top done at the end of a BOM, you are encouraged and inspired by other people and you have comraderie whether in an actual shop setting or in a group online. I have to also like the design of the quilt before I do a BOM. Anything KT is right up my alley. Love Love KT fabrics. I wasn't quilting when KT fabrics first came out. I must have missed the first 2-4 years of their fabrics. But keep looking forward to the new lines. When does Perennial come out again? In March or May?

  2. I like BOM's as you receive the project/block plus fabrics once a month and have a month to complete (as long as I keep up). The main thing I look for in each BOM is a challenge either in piecing or piecing/applique or piecing/applique/embroidery in the pattern. I also like putting my own twist on project to make it my own.

  3. Judging by your sidebar, you've got the perfect BOM formula already!! I love the background fabric that ties everything together - and NOT in stacked rows. Mix of applique & pieced.

  4. Congrats to Gwen!!! New fabric is always so decadent!!!

What I like about BOM's is that it helps a person to try something they haven't tried before... I had not ever made a full size quilt or appliqued with cotton, so I joined a BOM... had so much fun with the first block that I then joined 3 more BOM's!!! Yah, it's almost like potato chips! lol! I also like the fact that the fabrics are all chosen to match the sample quilt... because too many color changes can affect how much you like or don't like the finished quilt... a lot of times it is the colors that first attract you to a pattern...

  5. I am doing the 10 Years and Counting BOM as my 1st BOM. What attracted me to it was that it used a lot of techniques I have not done before so it gives me a chance to expand my horizons. I also liked the fabric chosen for the quilt.

  6. I like BOM because it is slow and steady! Not a lot of pressure, but before you know it, you have a completed quilt!

  7. I love BOM as they give me a chance to keep up and not get overwhelmed, the anticipation of waiting to get the next block is exciting. One of the best parts is having all of the fabric choices made for you and all that's left is to do the sewing. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway!

  8. The thing I like about BOM's is that when I finish the block I feel like I've completed a project:) I feel like I'm on top of things!

  9. I love the structure of a BOM, a set amount of sewing that needs to be accomplished in a months time. Also, if there is applique, I love having the fabrics selected for me. Sometimes it takes me longer to choose my applique fabrics than it does to actually stitch the block.

  10. i like BOMs also because they are organized and everything is ready to be put together.

  11. Congrats, Gwen (lucky girl!)
My fav thing about BOM's is that a lot of the time-consuming choices have been worked out for me! Then maybe I can get things done in a timely manner...

  12. Me!?!!!! :-) I'm SO excited! Today is my birthday-- I turn the big 5-0, so what a way to start my day!! I log on and see that I'm the winner!! Thanks so much!

I love BOM's. I think they may be one of my most favorite types of quilt to do--- *especially* if they have applique involved. I like the fact that the blocks change from month to month---- not just the same thing over and over--- and often they will involve a block or technique that I'm not familiar with, so they challenge me.

Again, thank you, Lynne, for your generosity! I couldn't be more thrilled! :-)

  13. I like the structure of BOM's. You can pace yourself. Also, like the effect of all the different month's blocks in one quilt. thank you for the opportunity to win. Sounds like fun!

  14. Lynne, you're inspiring me to do some spring cleaning!! =) BOMs are great b/c it's a bunch of small accomplishements that combine for one big beauty. The quilt doesn't seem as overwhelming this way and a month is a good pace for people like me. =) Thanks for the chance to win!

  15. I like BOM's cuz they take all the pressure off and make piecing a pleasure! No guesswork needed and I have a beautiful project every single time!

  16. I like BOM's because you make a commitment to finish something each month. I don't mind if it's a difficult or easy block. You feel better when you get something done and you want to move onto another project.

  17. I like BOM's because you get everything in one kit, then can work on it and enjoy the process of creating without the thinking.

I have the Seeds of Time, but haven't made anything yet. I tend to get books, then they sit until I get in the mood to make one of them. I was just looking at it, since you mentioned it and now I see a few I would like to do soon.

  18. I like BOMs because you know what your quilt will look like and you have time to complete it monthly. I have been collecting fabrics for your 10 years and counting and can't wait to start. So little time, so much to do.

  19. I like BOMs for a variety of reasons: the pace, the structure of everything picked out for me so I can just start cutting and sewing, for the opportunity to learn new blocks, new techniques, for the variety in the blocks, and because all the fabric needed is included so I don't over or under buy fabrics. Now, if I could just not get involved in so many BOMs at one time! LOL

  20. CONGRATS GWEN!
BOM'S ARE GREAT FOR VARIETY IN STITCHING!
    THANKS FOR GENEROUS NEAT GIVEAWAYS!

  21. Hi Lynne: I guess the same things attract me to BOM's as any quilt I might make - the quilt design itself has to be cool, very cool - mostly I design my own quilts - and the fabrics have to be "me". I love the KT colour palette - soft, darks and creamy lights - I don't do light, bright and neon!
I would just love to win some of your fabric - I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and my toes too I think.

  22. I enjoy doing BOM, I usually get together with friends and we all work on the same block. It's fun to see how everyone puts their quilt blocks together.

  23. I like BOMs because they are affordable and the fabric choices have been made for me...and I love to get them in the mail every month!!!

  24. I love BOM because as a young quilter I want to try a little but of everything but not be committed to a big project if I find out I'm in over my head. BOM let's me sample and determine what I enjoy most without getting frustrated or overwhelmed.

  25. i like doing a little by little...then i don't get so overwhelmed and there is less of a mess.

  26. I'm supposed to be able to make at least 1 block in 30 days? Maybe.....Someone choosing the perfect fabrics is always easier to get on with the project. Thank you for cleaning!

  27. I like getting those packages in the mail each month and the anticipation of seeing the fabrics. Also the excitement of waiting till the next month for the next package while I am working on the current one. Paula

  28. I love getting a surprise each month with a new challenge - even if its just one small thing to learn! Such fun! thanks

    ReplyDelete
  29. I've not attempted a BOM yet but think it would be great to get that package every month and have that block done by the time the next one comes. AND by the end of the year -- A finished quilt!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like BOMs because I learn so much from them. Often there is a block or two that I don't care for only to find out that I was wrong and love them all. It's a nice way to stretch myself.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  31. Why BOM's? The excitement of discovering! What block pattern, which 'have-to-touch' fabric, pieced? or applique?, every month different than the previous and the upcoming months will still be different, and having a 'far-better-eye-at-color/design' person than I helping me out. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love large, daunting projects for BOM. No simple piecing and sashing! I want appliqué, different sized blocks, and fun little tangents! And a fun show and tell at the end !

  33. I love working on BOM,S because,I can work on more than one at a time. Being a new quilter, I feel like I get more accomplished. My 10 yrs.& counting BOM has been delayed. What I love about this one, is I know it's going to be the original fabrics. Maybe it will come today this week. Fingers are crossed.

  34. BOMs are great as I stay inspired - it's like each month is a new project and I really get a sense of accomplishment when its completed. It's a great time to get together with like-minded people too! Thanks for your great fabric - I LOVE IT

  35. I like BOM for reasons other do not like them. I enjoy the package that comes in the mail. I like making a block, creating a box for the project, setting it aside and then waiting for the next package to arrive. When the last block arrives with the borders and completion instructions its finishing the puzzle. I the majority of BOM's have wonderful color solutions. For me its a treat all along the way. Thank you for the option to win

  36. I like BOM projects as I like having a set amount to do each month as opposed to having a huge project staring at me. I also like having BOM projects as it's like getting a little present in the mail or at my quilt shop each month.

It's also nice to have someone else make the fabric decisions as you can see different color combinations. Even though I enjoy picking out fabrics, it's fun to not have to do all of the planning for every project.

  37. I love BOM's because it's not so overwhelming to complete a quilt over a longer period. It also makes it more affordable to spread the cost out over time. Thanks for your give-aways! Would LOVE to have this one!

  38. I usually design my own quilts currently however I have little time for quilts as I have a 4 month and almost two year at home. Block of the month projects allow me sanity time without planning shopping etc.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Fabric is already there for that block, don't have to dig in stash(that can be scary). Something to look forward to. As a local club it is a great get togather time.

  40. I enjoy BOM's because its something that can be done within the time frame before the next one arrives. It gives me a sense of accomplishment knowing before the year is over I have a completed top. Having the fabric already chosen and packaged for you makes it a breeze! Every month its a new chapter and the first thing that gets opened when the mail arrives!
