Today we're looking back to one of my favorite collections - Seeds of Time - my 6th fabric line for Moda and the 5th quilt in the Quilters Journal series. Set in the mid-1800's, Lily and her family have been in Kansas for 20 years. The stage is set with a garden of beautiful flowers where her two oldest children will marry their loved ones in a double ceremomy under a new arbor built by their father. If you're interested in reading Lily's journal, all six of the Quilters Journal stories are available in a book (no quilt patterns) on sale now for just $9.95.
One of the challenges of this series was creating projects from the blocks in the quilt, too. The most popular has been a simple blue and white lap quilt called Bachelor Buttons. In the story, Lily pieced this quilt for her oldest son before he wed. This picture was taken in Kathy Haddock's yard - one of the most beautiful gardens I've seen.
This wool/cotton rolled sewing kit is also in Seeds of Time. It's one I carry with me on the road and holds everything I need. Call Robert for our weekly special - the Seeds of Time book for only $15! Both of these projects could be in single patterns soon, if my blogging test group votes positively. Let me know what you think and you'll be signed up for the Seeds of Time charm pack giveaway, too.
See you on the road this weekend!
I do have that, it was one of the first things I bought at the quilt store.
ReplyDeleteNow I need to make some items in the book. The sewing roll is what caught my attention.
Debbie
Love both of the patterns, esp the sewing roll, but the project I like most, as I watch my garden grow, is the garden quilt at the top.
ReplyDeleteSeeds of Time...wow, another great one! I would love to see the Seeds of Time projects offered individually. It's been very interesting reading all your thoughts about your lines so far!
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for a sewing roll and yours looks like it would hold everything needed to carry essentials to class. Also, I love working with wool applique. The quilt looks wonderful also.
ReplyDeleteI can see why this line was one of your favorites!
ReplyDeleteThe sewing roll looks like a pattern someone could easily use multiple times. After making one for yourself, you could whip up another as a thoughtful gift for a quilting friend.
The sewing roll is really neat, a quick take alone. I love 2 color quilts and Bachelor Buttons is a real hit. Isn't great when the grandkids come and play in your fabric.
ReplyDeleteLove the 'Seeds of Time' line. Great needlecase pattern - hold lots of essentials.
ReplyDeleteI like the arbor in the first quilt and the rose applique in the middle block.
ReplyDeleteAfter scrappy quilts, 2 color quilts are my favorite. My mother always grew bachelor buttons all along our fence when I was growing up. Definitely a memory maker.
Love the sewing kit. So fun and perfect for storing and carrying my supplies for my "on the go" applique projects
ReplyDeleteLove the blue and white quilt. How cute is the needlecase I love everything in its place.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable travel sewing kit. Another pattern to add to my "NEED" list. =)
ReplyDeleteThe sewing kit is awesome. Thank you for the opportunity to win the charm set from Seeds of Time.

ReplyDeleteI love the blue and white flower quilt and hope it it made into a singel pattern.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is beautiful. The sewing kit cute and tidy! I like the roll up!
ReplyDeleteThe sewing kit is so cute, and it would be great to make some for my quilty friends too. Batchelor Buttons is just beautiful. You really can't beat the simplicity of a two colour quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new reader to your blog, and I am heartily enjoying reading your thoughts and musings.
I like the sewing kit and the quilts, especially Bachelor Buttons.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the Bachelor Buttons make it as a single pattern. My grandmother grew them and my dad did too, from his mother's plants. Brings back some memories.
ReplyDeleteI am new to quilting and am finding and learning about my favorite fabrics and styles.
ReplyDeleteThe sewing kit is gorgeous! I would purchase this as an individual pattern.
I am stopping by Sweet Annie's (shop hop) tonight. Looking forward to checking out the KT items. Pretty sure I'll be coming home with a new project.
Thanks for the beautiful fabrics!
Kelly

I hate to be repetitive, since everyone seems to be in agreement with me - but I adore that Bachelor Buttons quilt. Charming! And Seeds of Time ... I might just have to make that one SOON.

I so enjoy reading your thoughts on the different lines. This one is really pretty and I can just imagine the wildflowers and bachelor buttons in the field. I would think either of these patterns would sell quilt well alone.
ReplyDeleteI would buy the Bachelor Buttons pattern if it were a single pattern. That is, unless I can locate my Seeds of Time book which is somewhere in my sewing room :) Anyway, Bachelor Buttons is one of my favorite quilts that I have not yet made.
ReplyDeletei love both projects, especially the colors in the bachelor buttons throw. Thanks for a chance to win - Laurie

Bachelor Buttons because it is so very pretty and unique. Thanks for the charms giveaway - have always liked the name Seeds of Time for the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued with The Seeds of Time journal stories. I'll have to hop to your website to learn more. I'd love the Bachelor Buttons quilt as a single pattern. Although I love the look of the sewing kit, it's not a project I would tend to make. Thanks for sharing with us the stories behind your fabric lines! I'm rather new to quilting so your fabric is new to me!

ReplyDeleteI love BOTH of those projects!!
ReplyDeleteI am working on the Seeds of Time quilt now. I purchased a kit from my local quilt shop, which included a back pack. I'm having lots of fun putting it together. I have since purchased the rest of the journals. I really enjoy how the stories coincide with the blocks. I also love the mixture of cotton and flannel fabric.
ReplyDeleteWould love to use the Seeds of Time charm pack to make the rolled sewing kit or any of your charm pack patterns.
ReplyDeleteThe Bachelor Buttons quilt is beautiful. I can picture that one on a bed or draped over my sofa. I'd love to curl up under it with a good book!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading Lily's journal ..... wish you would more of them. I read them at least 3 times. Seeds of Time was a great line. I only have a couple pieces of it left.
ReplyDeleteReally love the sewing roll and definitely would purchase it in a single pattern with the quilt.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the sewing roll. It is creative and has everything you need in it for emergency repairs. And it's very attractive. Would love to see it in a single pattern along with the quilt.
ReplyDeleteLois
Seeds of Time - love the colors. Love the Bachelor Buttons Quilt. Since I have all of your newer fabrics an older one would be great to win. You make it so much fun to come to your blog.
ReplyDeleteLove them both especially Bachelor Buttons. Hope they both are single patterns.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! I love working in my flower garden as much as I love quilting. Spring is one of my favorite times- and the flowers are beginning to put on their annual show here!!! The quilt with all the flowers is absolutely beautiful!!

I just love the Bachelor Buttons quilt--it's absolutely beautiful!! It would surly need to be put on my "must make" list. I also have to say it was fun seeing some lush green plants in your picture--after a long, snowy winter I hope we start to see green real soon :) Such wonderful ideas-thanks for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteThe sewing pattern is very cute. I'd love to see the Bachelor Button quilt as a single pattern.
ReplyDeleteAny quilt that has blue in it has to be good!! Again I remember the line and still have a few carefully hoarded scraps of it.
ReplyDeleteNadine
I, like many of the others, really like the sewing roll and would love to see the pattern for it. It would be a nice gift for many of my quilty/sewing friends. Thank you, again, for sharing so much!
