Cranberry Wishes Charming Thursday

I had a delightfully relaxing, productive, enjoyable time with Pam the past few days. We talked, stitched, visited, ate, discussed and shopped til we absolutely had to part ways. Pam arrived with a special surprise for my birthday - a little quilt! It's diminutive size and collection of KT prints only make it that much more awesome. It will have a prominent spot in my studio where I can enjoy it daily. It's laying on the "wrapping paper" - a star-spangled towel in matching navy & tan. Very cool. This is one chick who knows me well.

So on to the business at hand today - even tho I am about 12 hours late. No internet here in the outback this morning. Severe storms the other night didn't affect a thing, but a cool breeze last night knocked out the TV and internet - who knew???

This weeks charm pack is Cranberry Wishes. A very busy holly print was simplified and reduced in size to create the featured fabric for this line. Tiny stars, a printed grid plaid and floral motif decked out in holiday colors complete the look.

We used a Jelly Roll to make a simple holiday quilt that could be used all year round.

Question of the week: Do you make/love/decorate with Christmas themed quilts in your home? Let me know by Sunday night and we'll announce a winner on Monday. You'll also get a sneak peek at the project I completed in just one day while petting the new Flannel Days fabrics.

  2. I absolutely decorate with Christmas quilts. After the tree is up, the quilts come out and as far as I am concerned quilts are te best part of the decorations. Who need more?

  7. I currently do not have any Christmas quilts, but I plan to make one for my daughter for Christmas...I suspect she'll use it even after Christmas! When I was younger, I always got Christmas music out in September...she has already had us watch a couple of Christmas movies (which is alright with me) It's a great season to celebrate all year around!

  10. I have made three Christmas quilts--two were gifts and one goes on our bed. A friend gave me a Christmas quilt decades ago that is more of a lap size. Though the holiday fabrics of that era now leave much to be desired, it still gets an honored spot over the back of the mission-style rocker in the living room each holiday season. I am planning another Christmas quilt for the family room, but it will probably not happen until next year.

  17. I have good intentions every year of making cute Christmas quilts for decoration. This year I am determined to make a Christmas wallhanging...and keep it for myself instead of giving it away (which is what usually happens).

  18. Happy Birthday! ?
    Love those colors and prints.
I am working on some quilts for this christmas, early, so hoping I get them done in time. I love reds, green and tan mixed with black, so most of my quilts fit in with christmas. This year I am making some hexagon ones.

  24. No, I don't decorate for Christmas much anymore, as it is just my grown son and myself at home now. He doesn't much care if I decorate or not. I do have one Christmas quilt that I made in 1993, though, and a large ceramic Christmas tree. Quilts would be easier to take out & put away...hmmm...gives me ideas...

  27. I 'BOUGHT' a quilt & matching tree skirt from JCPenny 15-20 years ago. It has served it's purpose, but I would love to replace it, when I get the additional knowledge to do one myself. I just started quilting a year or so ago so need to start simple! Love your fabrics and decorating style too. Sharon S.

  35. I love to decorate my house for Christmas, and am working on 'winter wonderland' I hope to have it finished for next Christmas. Because I want 'more' LOL, I bought two large panels, so I only have to add a cute border and quilting. I know, it's a bit 'cheating', but the fastest way to have more quilts to play around with :-)).
Thanks for the chance to win those lovely charms.

  39. I do decorate for Christmas with one Christmas quilt (the only one I own). I plan on making for Christmas quilts, and if I decide to keep one for myself, then perhaps it will go up on my wall. BTW, I love this charm pack! I think it may be one of my very favorites yet! :o) And I love the cute mini quilt your friend made. I am glad to hear you like it so much, because I was thinking of making mini's for a couple of close friends on mine. :o) And lastly, can't wait to hear about what you made in a short amount of time!!!

  44. Yes, I decorate with quilts at Christmas. The very first "real" quilt I ever made was a Christmas quilt based on a favorite Christmas card with some pieced blocks alternting with applique of smiling kids, gingerbread boys, gifts, etc. It won a blue ribbon in the beginning category at the county fair.

  45. We only have one Christmas themed table runner sized quilt -- definitely need to make more -- and we gradually decorate coming into Christmas - then have to pur everything up. With 5 grandnieces under 6 yo, have to take care that nothing can be damaged that is sitting around as they are very inquisitive and love to touch. Thanks for the chance to win some charms to make a Christmas quilt.

  46. First - Happy Birthday! Next... sadly I have no Christmas quilts yet. I do have a Christmas table topper though. It was my first true attempt at quilting and WAY too ambitious a project for a beginner (yikes!), but I learned a lot and I love it. More holiday projects coming soon I hope!

  47. No, I don't have/haven't made any Christmas-themed quilts, but it would be nice to have one to drape over the back of the sofa. I especially like the idea of a holiday quilt that can be used beyond December-- like the Garden Lanterns quilt.

I have several Christmas decorations that are quilted and plan to make many more! Last year I made a throw and this year am making a tablerunner. I'd also like to make some Christmas themed mug rugs for gifts.

  55. Glad you had a nice visit with Pam..the quilt she made is beautiful!

Now to your question... yes I do decorate and make Christmas type quilts and rag dolls/animals. They are all over the house. I have several Christmas themed quilt tops finished, now to just fine the time to get them all done, so they can be added to the collection.

A lot of my quilts have colors that can be used as Christmas and all year though, they are the ones I put under my trees for skirts. I just love the look of them all bunched up under my skinny Christmas trees.

    Have a great weekend!

  57. Not long before my mom became very ill with cancer, she developed an interest in quilting. Together, she and I had made a Christmas dress ensemble for my then 7-year-old daughter.

My mom made the dress, and I made a pieced, quilted overlay that tied on each side of the waist. My mom later used the leftover Christmas-themed prints to make pinwheel blocks.

After my mom died, I used her pinwheel blocks to make table runners for my sister and me. These quilted pieces are not large in size, but they are priceless to us and fill our home with our mother's love.

  58. I bought my sewing machine last year and the first two quilts I made were Christmas quilts. I tend to "go over the top" with Christmas and the quilts just finished it beautifully. I like to have one on the table and the others on the couches for the fam to cuddle up with while watching football. Love the fabric!
