KT Fav winner

Char S. (cannewa) is the winner of the KT Fav charm pack & book. Please email your vital statistics and we'll send it right out.

The last quilt for market was dropped off at the quilter's last week so I headed to KC to spend a couple days with my daughter - my youngest - who turns 30 next Saturday. It seems we seldom get much girlfriend time together anymore so it was really nice to spend a whole day alone together - I feel blessed to call my only daughter one of my closest friends. Nicole and her family recently moved into a new place, so we shopped for home decor and storage items to get their lives more organized and personalized. With a 7-yr-old daughter, they were drowning in all the papers from school. Now, they each have cubbies, baskets and hooks to drop mail, shoes, video games and keys. Nic picked out a few cool wall decor pieces with subtle earth tones and a vintage-looking metal clock (Aleece needs to learn to tell time on a "real" clock!).

We took a break at Texas Roadhouse for an early dinner - great kabobs - then indulged in chocolate/caramel/nut covered apples at the Legends outdoor mall, window shopping on a beautifully perfect Sat. night. After helping put everything in it's place, I returned home Sunday evening to find a delectable, indulgent triple chocolate ganache dessert that my oldest son had left for Robert and I in the fridge. A tiny sliver with fresh berries and whipped cream was the perfect ending to a delightful weekend, although I'm surely going to be eating more Special K and yogurt this week to get back into my "skinny" jeans before market.

Here's a first look at the charm quilt for Sandhill Plums called Sand Plum Jelly. Simple piecing and a bit of whimsical applique are perfect for a kitchen runner. It still amazes me that it takes about a bushel of Sandhill Plums simmered down to make 6 cups of pulp/juice mixed with 8 cups of sugar to make the jelly. I remember helping Gramma make it each year and we savored those sweet bites of toast well into winter, but I'll buy mine by Smuckers these days, Thank you very much.
Quilts will be arriving throughout the week so we'll have updates of new stuff soon. I'd like to know where you find the bestest, newest quilt stuff out there - quilt shop, internet, fellow quilters? What's your source?

  1. I learn about the newest items from our local quilt shop owner and quilt teachers. They try the new things and give us a report on the "must haves." Have a great week!

  4. I have to use the internet since the one little quilt shop near me doesn't carry much....only a few bolts of your line. So I shop online. Love the new collection! SWarren

  5. My quilt source is blogs... lol! I see what someone else is working on and I try and find it on the internet. Kitted or pattern, doesn't matter. Not many quilt shops close to my house. Is there a pattern/kit available for the Runner you have pictured here?

  7. The runner looks like it has tabs at the ends.
I get ideas from all you mentioned, in fact sometimes it is all over whelming....sew much to make, not enough time :-)

  8. I use the Internet for most of my ideas. Although, I had an amazing time on a three day, 12 shop bus tour. It was wonderful to see different patterns made with my favorite fabric. I came home with lots of ideas and lots more HT fabric

  9. I love to go to large quilt shows with many vendors and demos. That's a great place to see what's new and try new things.

  10. I get my inspiration from quilt blogs and internet shops as well as my local quilt shop. However I do not purchase fabric, etc on the internet. Our "mom and pop" shop owners have invested their time and money to give us quilters these great shops. So let's help keep them in business by spending our "quilt dollars" there!

  11. I am lucky to have several quilt shops in my area, each having different creative ideas. I am the touchy-feely type so being able to stop in and browse is a definite benefit. If I am looking for something specific or some additional inspiration, I head to the internet. Love shop hops and have attended several quilt expo's. Can't wait to see Sandhill Plum.

  12. I prowl the manufacturers websites so I know what new fabrics will be coming. I do prefer to shop at my LQS. That kind of holds the stash down since they cannot get in all of the fabrics I think I might want!

  13. The Moda Hops have introduced me to a lot of new blogs, plus I see the availibility month for the new fabric designs on the Moda site. Being a novice quilter, this has helped a lot. I shop at my LQS and one internet site which gives fabulous service and prices since I am almost 2 hours away from a major city. Would love to attend a major quilt show ex. Houston someday.

Sand Plum Jelly...lots of memories... my grandmother used to make this yummy special treat every year in an old homestead farm house w/o AC and even running water.

  14. I have a couple of quilt shops close by, but I use the internet and friends for info about places to buy stuff. It's hard to find KT fabrics in this area. Have a little of it stashed until I finally cave and use it!!! I've never made plum jelly, but I do make strawberry, peach, and blackberry jams. Usually around C'mas time for gifts. Bev E

  16. Love the table runner and can't wait for the new line to come out. I try to shop at quilt shops in my area rather than on the internet.
Love all your material and patterns
