It's Christmas!

After getting another bug exterminated on my computer, I'm so far behind I thought it was only April, but it's looking alot like Christmas around here! Last week (whenever) I showed a block I'm using for my daughter's 30th birthday quilt. I got about half of the blocks sewn up at Pam's (Buda of Heartspun Quilts) while retreating so the rest just need to be done this summer so I can give it to her before she turns 31 (hey, she'll be 30 all year). The inspiration for the block came from my new quilt, Merry, Wish, Joy featuring Holiday Medley, the new KT Christmas line, due in quilt shops in June. Get a sneak peek now on the KT website under Fabric/Fabric Collections or thru the link above.
The double star block is created just like the one in the previous blog post - a simple 9-patch background with triangles and squares (cut on the bias) raw edge stitched on top, then the 9-patch is sewn together as usual. It makes an intricate looking block without any stress or hassle and is big on primitive charm. This takes a fat 1/8 bundle of the new fabric collection plus sashing and borders. The Merry, Wish, Joy applique in the borders is inspired by the sashing fabric that has holiday words and phrases. There's also a 3-block runner that goes together so quickly, it would make great gifts. Too fun!

Comment here about your favorite Christmas decorating scheme by next Monday night (oh, btw, I'm switching to posting on Tuesdays for the giveaways) and I'll announce the winner of a free Merry, Wish, Joy pattern via random number generator on Tuesday. Watch all month for more Christmas-themed giveaways - fabric, charms, patterns and more!

  1. I do poinsettias in the kitchen. I made curtains from a tablecloth; I have a poinsettia garland for under the cabinets with lights and I need to make a poinsettia wallhanging next. The dishes are red and gold...very festive!

    1. You'll love the Holiday Medley fabric then, because the main print is a poinsettia motif inspired by vintage wrapping paper.

  5. Ornaments! My tree is so covered by kids made ornaments, collectable ornaments, ornaments that I buy every year, etc. that I had to get another tree to put the ornaments on. Love ornaments and the sentimental meaning they have behind them. Thanks for the chance.

  19. I love this holiday quilt. It is tasteful and can really be left out all year. I put strings of tiny white lights mixed in with greenery along the rail on top of my kitchen cupboards for Christmas one year. I liked them so well, they are left lit in my kitchen year round.I mixed them with berry vines instead of greens.

  26. An enormous real tree! One year, our youngest picked out a ten footer (and we lived on base at the time in a tiny, tiny house with an itty bitty living roo!)! Thankfully, our house did have tall, vaulted ceilings! I also like to decorate with things my boys have found, such as beautiful pine cones and pictures they have drawn from younger years. And decorating for Christmas wouldn't be complete without my beautiful quilt that my wonderful MIL made for me a couple of years ago!

  35. My favorite theme is angels, especially the primitive ones and several that were hand made by friends. I have very little that I made myself. Seems I was always so busy making gifts, I never got around to making for myself. I'm trying to correct that now and always leaning towards the primitive.

I have several Christmas "collections" that I have gathered over the years, but I think my very favorite are my nativities - I have some very simples ones, some handmade by family, and some I have purchased on my trips. 52. I am a snowman collector and collect vintage quilts as well. So far, all the old quilts I have are made by grandparents and great grandparents. So we definitely have the snowman theme in play around here, actually most of the year. I have cut back a lot on decorating as we all congregate at my son's home and we rarely have visitors. But we still have many snowmen. :)

  60. For me it is the home made christmas things that touch my heart. I have things from my younger years. I have a few bulbs that were my grand mothers. The angel that tops our tree was made by a friend. Its so sweet. A couple of friends made some of the other ornaments that remind me of them. Every time I see them I remember that person.

  62. My Christmas decorating theme hasn't changed in years because I have become emotionally attached to the country-themed Santa Claus figures, angels, and snowmen I began collecting in the mid 1980s. It's comforting to embrace my dear "old friends" and other decor items year after year.
