12" Roman Cross by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic
This week, Brigitte designed a 12" block with lots of opportunity for color options. I used red/tan/blue once again for one of my colorways, and classic KTQ for the other. It's an easy block with good-sized pieces, but take care adding the B-triangles onto either side of the D-square and C-rectangle (block corner units). The accuracy of your piecing here will determine how square and true-to-size your block finishes. This caution comes not because I had to rip out the first two corners of mine, just as a heads up. ;)

My color plan is a moderated red white and blue--meaning, I'm using creams and tans, too, but I plan to donate the finished quilt as a Quilt of Valor.
ReplyDeleteI love that quilters are so generous. Good for you!
Deletei just love the burgundy, tan, and forest green, navy blue, and gold....that is why i LOVE LOVE your patterns and fabric designs so much...your fabrics always speak to my heart....thanks for the give a way. janet jecagain@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is always blues and tans.
ReplyDeleteI'll always go patriotic if given the choice. Blue has always been my favorite color. Thanks for the chance to add some more of your fabric to my quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors that Laurie Simpson is using. So patriotic! And Betsy Chutchain's are great, too!
ReplyDeleteSandy A
Trying to use different blues as my color plan.
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway. rfatkins@aol.com
Loving this block. I always incorporate the reds/burgundy,tans, greens, and blues into my blocks...mixing and matching along the way. You can't go wrong with Kansas Troubles...everything always goes beautifully together!
ReplyDeleteI like the red/tan/blue, but really I like your fabrics so you could insert any of your colors in the post and that would be my favorites.
ReplyDeleteRed/tan/blue is always a favorite.
ReplyDeleteI have loved the ones with aqua & coral...I also like the purple & greens (especially sage). I'm making mine with yellows & blue/turquoise color scheme.
ReplyDeleteI think reds/blues/tans are a great way to go.
ReplyDeleteA favorite? That's like saying which one of your kids do you love the most. Right now I'm most drawn to Zen Chic because I love Grunge, Lisa Bonjean because well because gray is awesome and then there is Laurie Simpson who is using scraps from a variety of Minnick and Simpson lines who I'm totally obsessed with. Tomorrow it might be KT or Me and My Sister or who knows because I'm basically a Moda girl. I guess I'll have to give the answer my kids always use when asked who is Momma's favorite and that is none - because she hates us all the same. ;)
ReplyDeleteTan/beige backgrounds with an assortment of fabrics from my Kansas Troubles stash.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite colors right now are blue, cream and tan. This is the color scheme I would use. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am using tans, greens, burgundy and blues. All my favorites. It's hard to step out of my comfort zone, but those colors all go with my home.
ReplyDeleteI am using bright blues and yellow and red for this project.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite colorway is a deep burgundy, deep forest green and a dark tan. I like to sometimes use some dark navy, as well.
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying the Minick and Simpson patriotic scraps version.
ReplyDeleteI'm on a tan/beige and french blue color plan. I find that combination very calming.
ReplyDeleteMy colorway is definitely a KT set with Burgundy, Tan, and Blues, with some green and cheddar thrown in. I just finished a Brown Bag Mystery Quilt in those colors and my family loves it. In addition to the KT, I love the Union Blues blocks.
ReplyDeleteI am doing mine in Civil War colors, and I'm not sure I will have enough, so this would be a great win for me. Thanks for all the fun.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I think that my favorite is the colorway that "Me and My Sister" is using right now . . . but personally I know I would never be able to pull that one off! One thing I love about your fabrics is that it's hard to go wrong with them-- they all seem to work together well!
ReplyDeleteBurgandy and dusty blue with tan backgrounds are calling to me! Have always loved harvest tones.
ReplyDeletebasaran.family@rogers.com
love the warm earth colors that you carry.....have for a long time
ReplyDeleteI thought this project would be one where I break away from the usual. I liked the focus fabric my sister used in her quilt with purples & greens so she’s sharing. And I like Lisa’s color scheme. Decisions, decisions. 🤫
ReplyDeleteI'm actually using Kansas Troubles fabrics. Mostly Fresh Cut Flowers but have added in some Gooseberry Lane and Thistle Farm. How wonderful it would be to be able to add in some more fat quarters!
ReplyDeleteI would use blues, cream and tan plus maybe a soft brown. I’s lije To make various star blocks with these colors!
ReplyDeleteThere's no question about it- my favorite colorways is Kansas Trouble country colors !!!!
ReplyDeleteI use a mix of white, grey and black for thefirst few blocks than swtich to Christmas fabrics. After that some Spring colors and than I don't know yet. But always Moda, of course.
ReplyDeleteI really like the alternate colors with the soft greens, coral and aqua. I plan to use creams for the background and an espresso brown for contrast. This is totally out of my comfort zone but I been collecting some fat quarters with these colors and this will be just the way to use them.
ReplyDeleteOops, for some reason my name didn't show up. I'm Loretta in Georgia.
DeleteMaybe it's because it is nearly July, but red/ white/ and blue!
ReplyDeleteThis past year I have become obsessed with black, tan, gold, dark green. My pastel fabrics are feeling neglected! Loved hearing you speak in Wichita recently.
ReplyDeleteI am using greens, reds, tans golds and blacks all Kansas Troubles oh and some blues very scrappy I think this is going to wipe out my favorites in my stash, enjoying my first quilt along
ReplyDeleteI've seen so many great colorways on the FB group - I feel like I want to change up my whole plan every day or so! I finally decided on black/grey with small pops of color - mostly aqua/teal. All fabrics from my stash so far. I'm sure that will change at some point!
ReplyDeleteI like red, white and blue.
ReplyDeleteI'm having fun using an assortment of greens with a pop of gold.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with fall colors, i will be using a variety of tans, greens reds and oranges.
ReplyDeleteCan't go wrong with red, tan and blue!!! But... every time I see someone else's block - I like what they are using! Can't make up my mind, so will stick to my r,t & blue colorway for now!
ReplyDeleteNot sure yet. Maybe white, blue, yellow.
ReplyDeleteI am going with KT fabrics so adding your Reds, Navys & Tans would be great. I will be giving mine to my grandson. He loves KT quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love the Reds, greens, blues tans and browns like you sell. They are my very favorite colores!
ReplyDeleteI think I love your reds and blues the best. I can't ever want a quilt without red, and if i can't have red, I will settle for blue
ReplyDeleteThank for your very good article! i always enjoy & read the post you are sharing!

I love RED, no matter what color it is, and of course, navy and tan set it off to perfection! Who could deny that it is time to think about flannels? The Farmers Almanac has promised us another chilly winter.
