In November 2000, my first grandson, Cooper, was born. Of course, I was delighted and wanted to wrap him in quilts I had made myself. Here I was, a fabric designer, and I had no fabric for a baby quilt! Moda was very gracious in indulging my wish for a line of prints to wrap my grankids in Hugs & Stitches. A vintage curtain panel with adorable ducks was the starting point done in a pallette of pinks, blues, yellows & white. By the time Lucy's Feather Bed was delivered, so was our second granchild, Rowan, in March of 2002. Soon after, I was finally able to stitch up some of the pink fabrics in the collection for Aleece, in August 2004. The brushed prints were perfect layered with matching plaids for receiving blankets and "drag around" quilts. I often use a layer of plaid instead of batting in baby quilts for extra squooshy, wrappable comfort.
All of my grankids still request plaid pillowcases for Christmas each year and pick their plaid at Thanksgiving. One of their gifts is wrapped in their pillowcase - a double present!
Projects I made for my grankids are in a book called Hugs & Stitches with pictures of Cooper & Rowan as little guys. It still makes me smile whenever I run across them. We actually had to borrow a girl for the photo shoot, so my quilting friend, Emily Waldo, happily offered her grandaughter. Hugs & Stitches is still available in limited quantities on our webstore under KT Specials for just $4.00 - check it out grandmas!

The winner will be announced Monday morning with a special edition of Charming Thursday featuring Strawberry Jam. Thanks for the giveaway. Looking forward to the next Charming Thursday - I love strawberry jam!!
ReplyDeleteLove all of your fabrics and patterns. I am going to make KT jewelry today - love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much. Seems there is a bit of a baby boom among my friends children this year so I have lots of quilting to do.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the sweet giveaway! I love the quilts you made!
ReplyDeleteWe just had our first grandbaby and I had SO much fun making a quilt for him! I've also made one of those I Spy quilts to keep at my house and play with when he gets a little older - it feels great to know that I'm prepared ahead of time since he's only six months old! LOL
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts for the grandchildren. I am still waiting for some, so I might try some for charity quilts. I also want to make pillow cases, seems simple enough, just need to try one.

I just love your designs...all of them :) I am upset with Moda though. I have been watching their "What's New" on the website for the newest fabric. They do NOT have Warm Memories on the swatch page so I can see what it looks like. The quilt shop in my hometown doesn't carry much Moda (I fuss about it all the time!) so I have to order on-line. I sure wish you'd call and tell them to update the new fabrics page. Thanks for listening to me complain :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great giveaway, Lynne. I don't see anymore grandchildren on the horizon--the only one I've got is 14!!!
ReplyDeleteI love those baby quilts!
ReplyDeleteI won't have any more grandchildren, but great-grandchildren can't be far behind. Thanks for the giveaway. Kathie L in Allentown
ReplyDeleteWhat is KT jewelry? I'm still enjoying and learning your quilts/fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed making my grandkids their baby quilts. I love the cheery fabric and making them something to remember me by. Thanks for the chance for the charm paks.

ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful cozy quilts! I don't have any grandkids yet (I really want some!). But these quilts are so vintage cool! Maybe someday....
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the pillowcase for wrapping the gift in. Great idea for a give away
ReplyDeleteLove your quilts. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet grandma. I really like the ducks. Question: By plaid, do you mean flannel?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway opportunity. Love the baby quilts and seem to be making a lot of them lately!
ReplyDeleteI can see many generations of babies using the quilt. It has a timeless pattern, the fabric is great also. Is the Advent calendar pattern for sale yet? Would like to make a couple as gifts
ReplyDeleteI am not a Grandma - but, I am going to be a great Aunt, so am very excited about making a quilt for the new little one. The idea of the pillowcase is great - and I love making pillowcases, don't know why that never occurred to me.
ReplyDeleteI am like the lady before me - not a Nana but a GreatAunt! Yeah! thanks for the lovely giveaway and the quilt is so so cute.
ReplyDeletegrandkids are a little bit down the road (I hope) yet...but it's always great to be ready! At the rate I finish projects...I need more than a 9 month head start! Have a grand week and thanks for a chance to win - Laurie

We are expecting our 4th. grandchild in Sept. It sure has been a long time, because our youngest grandchild will be 12 that month. We are so excited!!! That fabric and book would be perfect timing. I would love to be the winner.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
I love all your fabric lines and this one is a little different from the ones I'm familiar with but so very sweet. It has been fun going through your scrapbook of fabric lines each week. Thanks for the opportunity to win some of your lovely fabric.
ReplyDeleteWe're having our first grandchild in July, so I'd be thrilled to win!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win your fabric and book.
ReplyDeleteI've made my grandchildren pillow cases. I machine embroider and the kids pick out their designs and thread colors. I will use your idea of wrapping gifts in pillowcases. Great idea, especially for those hard to wrap presents.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern...maybe my grandkids will get a new quilt soon! Thanks for a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteIt took us 38 years to get a baby girl in the family and now we have 2 baby girls and a step granddaughter. I have finally go to play in a lot of pink and loving it. Although 6 grandsons is alright too. Thanks for the chance to win some fun fabric.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely fabric and quilts. No grands here, but I love to see what other people make for their special little people.
ReplyDeleteMy first grand is 10 and a half months old, and I get to babysit her every other week day. Life is good. Love the fabric and quilts.
ReplyDeleteNo grandkids for me yet, but hopefully in the next few years, since our daughter is engaged. It would be wonderful to have copies of your lovely patterns on hand!
ReplyDeleteI love charm squares! I have a special little person in mind for the quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tradition. Your grandchildren are very fortunate! No grandchildren for me yet, but hope to be able to develop these kinds of ties......
ReplyDeleteWe had our first grandchild last August, and I've already made her 4 quilts. Love the fabric and quilts.
ReplyDeleteI have 6 grandchildren with more on the way I'm sure. They are the delight of my life and I am hooked on being a grandma. Would love to make a KT quilt for the next grandchild, thanks for the opportunity at the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'd been resisting my friends insistance that I sew for a long time. Making quilts for my grandkids was what finally tipped me over the edge. I have a quilt made by my great-grandmother so I'm very happy to carry on the tradition.
ReplyDeleteMy mother loved to make baby quilts and did so until she died. She had some unfinished ones which I inherited along with some of her stash and quilting supplies. She made baby quilts for relatives and friends and I hope to carry on her tradition. Would love to win the Lucy's Featherbed charm and the Hugs and Stitches book to help me carry on this tradition in her memory.

I dont have babies to make quilts for...all of my grandchildren are way past baby quilts but I am going to have my first great-grandbaby in August and of course am very excited. It is a girl so I would love the book and fabric as I am thinking that I am going to make more than one for this baby.
ReplyDeleteMy, do we have time for other quilty projects once the grandkids start coming???? I've got 10 grandkids so far and that's only half of my kids married...I've got years of this! It's great fun though and I love coming up with a different quilt pattern for every baby...I could use that charm pack and book of ideas :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute "drag around" quilt for the grandkids! I've really enjoyed working with charm packs lately, mostly because of the fine work you designers do in coordinating the lovely fabrics - makes the quilting go so fast and flawless!(well, fast, anyway!)
ReplyDeleteJill
Really cute! Might have to make one for myself (just larger, of course). I don't have grandchildren YET, but I am sure it will happen sooner than later. I also plan to make each of my grandchildren their own quilt made with love from Grandma, just as I have made each of my children their (numerous) quilts! I absolutely LOVE this hobby!
ReplyDeleteLove every bit of everything that you come up with...wow you are such a talented lovely lady..Lisa
ReplyDeleteI got some of your baby fabric and a baby quilt kit at one of your retreats years ago. I'm still making baby quilts! I have two more great nieces/nephews on the way to make it 19 on my side alone. They all have baby quilts from me. :-) I am always looking for new patterns, fabric and ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love the baby quilt. I've never used your baby fabric only the typical KT prints. I need to make a baby quilt for a friend, so it's a good time to start!! I just love it.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any grandkids yet and may never but I have plenty of baby quilts made just in case. Paula
