Countdown to Christmas Day #10

Congratulations to the winner of the Perennials fat 1/8 bundle, QuiltinginMinn. Maybe this little bundle of fabric will help inspire you to get your personal creative space in order. I can't imagine having to move!

A dozen Mini Table Treats patterns are up for grabs today for a mere moment of your time and a comment. With the additon of Frost, Pinwheel and Spoolin' Around, there's a different motif for almost every month of the year! All of the MTT are available on our website (or will be soon!) for just $5 each. They are a great gift idea since it only takes about 3 hours and $15 worth of materials to make each one.

Thanks for all the suggestions for my glaring windows. Someone asked what I see out that window, so I took a shot of my grandaughter, Aleece, playing in the newfallen snow here yesterday. She ran and played with Gus until he was begging to come back inside. I didn't enjoy the weather quite so much. My car doors were frozen shut so we were truly snowed in and couldn't get into town. Lots of hot chocolate and movies saved the day so I could work for a few hours.

Are you a cold weather gal? What kind of outdoor activities do you look forward to each year? I love watching the snow from my comfy chair with a quilt, a book and a cup of hot tea. How about you?

  1. I am with you Lynne... watching the snow fall and seeing it around Christmas time is really pretty. But, I would rather not go out in it. Like to be warm and cozy in my chair working on a quilt or in front of my sewing machine!

    Merry Christmas

  2. When it's cold outside I like to spend my day the same way as you do, maybe do a little "Redwork" too.
Those are some cute patterns you have to offer today, they would make great Christmas gifts next year.

  3. I'm a summer gal. But I love seeing it snow while I'm sewing or snuggled on the couch. Looks like we won't be having any snow in Ohio for Christmas.
I didn't get to post yesterday, but I think the quilt looks great at your window.

  4. I too love watching from my chair. Last week was feeling poorly so I curled up with two quilts two dogs, hand work while I listen to a book on mp3 player and watched the birds at our feeder. It was a perfect day except for the sniffles. PattiO

  5. I'd love to win the table treats. Living in western NY, we get a lot of snow. I like the first snowfall of the year and the first lake effect snow of the year. Then I've seen enough of the fluffy white stuff. The only outdoor activities I do anymore are shoveling and walking the dogs but I used to enjoy sledding and snowball fights with my son when he was little. Awesome view from your window!

  6. My thoughts about snow now that I'm older can be summed up in one word Lynne. YUCK!!!!!!!!!! I've got very bad knees though so it scares me to walk on any ice or slick snow because I'm sure if I were to fall just right onto either knee I'd create more problems than I have now.

I would just love having the big windows you have since I am in my sewing room all day long. We have a large window like that in our living room but the light coming in has always created problems seeing the tv set in there exactly like you're trying to fix somehow. In there I bought sheer-ish purple/eggplant colored drapes and those helped a lot. We just never open them and still can see out but not too much. But how fun to sit in your sewing room and have that view plus being able to watch your Granddaughter playing with the dog would be such fun.

Those mini table treats look great. How large are those? Of course, I can check your website to see myself too I guess. Thank you for the giveaways you've been doing.

  7. My favorite outdoor activity is gardening. So I guess I prefer the warm weather. It will be awhile before I can do that. So glad I enjoy quilting, so I can pass the time away during the cold winter. Love those table mats. They sure would make quick beautiful gifts.

  8. We are looking at a brown Christmas this year. Kind of strange for Minnesota! I do like winter... just not too long, and not too cold. Snow is fine!

I love those mini table treats. Great gifts for next year should I be fortunate enough to win!

Thanks again for the opportunities you've showered on us these past weeks!

  9. We'd love to see some snow here in GA. It is so rare that when we do get enough to actually play in, that takes priority over anything else b/c we all know it will be gone the next day!
Thanks for all of the giveaways!

  11. Just love to walk in the snow... watch it fall, sew while I watch the songbirds outside my window... thanks for asking.

Love the table treats. Merry Christmas.

  12. I want it to snow!!!! We had a snow storm in October, but that was it this year. Last year we had too much snow. We broke so many weather records this year. Wettest year, hottest temp., snowiest January, etc. and of course my favorite record - 10 days without power! I love to snow shoe and play with the kids in the snow. Of course, it is always nice to snuggle up in a chair with hot chocolate and watch it snow too!

Love the patterns! Looks like something that I need.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I like the cold weather! Mainly, because hot weather and I don't do well together..unless I could learn to quilt while sitting in the pool:) I was just saying to my friends the other day that I need some little table quilts to put under things! With this selection, I could have something for every room and every season!

  14. The snowy day looks beautiful! And that's what I love to do...look at it from inside. If it snows I want it to snow so much that you can't go out and you get stuck inside with a warm fire. After it calms down we usually go to the beach to see what it looks like.
    Love the MTT's...sew cute!

  15. Staying inside and looking out is my activity of choice. It is nice to see all our snow outside the window.

  16. EVEN THOUGH I LIVE IN MINNESOTA I DO NOT CARE FOR THE COLD. I USUALLY STAY INSIDE AND SEW WITH HOT TEA OR COCOA. MARTHA

  17. Your snow looks so wonderful - after moving from Colorado to North Carolina ten years ago, I realized how much I loved the snow. I must say people know how to drive in the snow in Colorado - not so here. I wait every year for our one token snow and plan my day around it. Dear husband just tolerates it after working so many years out in it. Thank you for sharing your pictures. Judy C in NC sends warmest (literally) wishes to you - today it is 68 degrees.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't mind the cold as much as I used to, mainly because I don't have to go out into it if I don't want to now that I'm no longer working. It's the brutal summer heat I can't take any more. I love the table treats.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm a "just right" weather girl... lol! I don't like the extreme heat of Summer or the extreme cold of winter... Spring and Autumn suits me just fine, thank you. So, I'll be sitting in my chair with a quilt and hot cocoa this winter too! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I live in Nebraska so the weather is similar to yours, except we missed this snow fall, what a shame! I've lived here my entire 53 years and I hate winter and cold, makes my bones hurt. I love forward to retirement so hopefully we can move to a warmer climate during the winter! Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  21. For me, the best part about cold weather is it gives you an excuse to snuggle up in a chair with a book or sewing project and not have to run a bunch of errands. Enjoy your mini break!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, I love the view. I'd sit all day with a cup and looking out that window. That's my favorite part of Winter! Staying warm inside.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I like when it gets cold so I don't have guilt to not be outside as much and I can stay in and quilt all day!! Super cute MTT!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I LOVE the snow....but, like you, I enjoy it from my sewing room window while working on a project! Since I work full time, snow days are a delight when I get a chance to be at my machine:) I LOVE the MTTs...especially the spools!

  25. We don't get much snow here, but I love to sit near the wood stove and watch it snow, while working on some hand work! I love the mini table toppers!

  26. There was a time our favorite winter activities were snowmobiling and ice fishing. Now the favorite is golfing in Arizona!! Love the giveaway, and the view from your window.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Growing up and still living in WI, I've seen plenty of snow. Though not much of a cold weather fan, I still enjoy the white stuff for Christmas. It just helps with the mood. After that, give me 70 and sunny. I used to snowmobile alot but don't really enjoy being out in the cold and snow anymore. I'd rather be inside quilting. If I don't win these patterns, I will be for sure ordering a few after the new year.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I wish we could have cold all year round - don't like heat and humidity. But then I would miss my gardens. Have a blessed day.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm glad you like your snow, but I love our balmy winter days here in Florida. I like to look outside at the green grass and enjoy the sunshine. I'm no snowbunny :-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. OH MY GOSH!!! I am so excited to win the Perrennials Fat 1/8th bundle!!! Thank you Lynne! Love the Mini Table Treat patterns. What a great gift idea for next Christmas! The snow missed us here in this part of Missouri. I'm going to miss the white Christmas's we enjoyed in Minnesota.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Love your view. I am a cold weather person but that only means I do not like hazy, hot, and humid weather. I love walks, and especially at this time of year spying the Christmas decorations people have put up. I'll miss all of the lights when they are taken down in a few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I LOVE cold weather for Christmas! (Of course, living in south Alabama, "cold" is relative! ;-) Frequently, we have warm, balmy Christmases and I just don't like that at all... you need a little nip in the air at Christmas time! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, I better like the cold weather--we are going to get hammered tonight/tomorrow with about a foot of snow! Gotta love Colorado this time of year. I've been wondering about these patterns in particular. With all this snow coming, it'll be the perfect time to make some if I win--and then sit under a quilt, sipping on some hot tea. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I do like to walk in the winter but only if the roads are not icy. My BF and I have fallen enough that we are choosy about walking conditions. I have driven enough freeways in snowy, blowy, slushy conditions that I really, really don't like to drive in storms. I do like to go to our cabin and play in the snow with our grandkids, but I'm finding hot chocolate and a fire are great comforts, and a good book. Happy Holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What a wonderful treat to win MTT patterns!!! I'm only a temporary snow bunny. I go visit it, play in it, and then come home to my sunny corner of the world. Andrea. lucases (at) hotmail (dot) com.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Not so much. I love to watch the beautiful snow from the inside. Definitely! Once during the winter we go tobogganing with the grandkids at the spot where I went when we were kids. Love the matts.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Originally from Minnesota, now I only enjoy the snow at holidays when I visit that area. Still get to see some frosty weather in the St. Louis area but it is short lived and I'm OK with that. A good book and snuggling up on the couch on "snow days" is the best!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love to walk my dogs in the snow, they love to run, jump and most of all eat the snow! They look like steam shovels running and biting at the snow. Love the mini table treats, and would love to try some. I have been making some of the small projects from my KT Stash newsletters for Christmas presents!

  39. we haven't had our snow...whaaaa. I love snow shoeing as an outdoor activity but love to have a wonderful cup of coffee with hand work!

  43. I am a cold weather gal. I do sitting inside and enjoying all the snow too.
Love the snow photo. Looks like a White Christmas for you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. We missed the snow this time...love playing and watching the dogs in the snow. Above all, I enjoy drinking coffee, and either reading or baking while the snow falls. Snow is always better than an ice storm!!! Fun patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love to go and play in the snow with my little munchkins....Watching them explore the snow...and zooming down a big hill...(which is really a very small hill) and this year we will all go skating. Then hot chocolate at home to warm up. As long as it's not bitterly cold. Then I stay indoors and quilt away the hours.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm not much of a cold weather gal. I do enjoy downhill skiing but lately my knees don't like it so much, so I do it infrequently.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Brrrr! I like my weather not too hot and not too cold. Thanks for the give-away.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I do not like the cold weather at all. I do however, love to be inside on a snowy day with some quilting. Then I can really enjoy how beautiful winter can be!

  61. My favorite winter outdoor activity in Georgia is getting into a car that is not searing hot! I also like cooking comfort food in the oven without needing to crank up the air conditioning! I enjoy all the blogger's photos of snow while being glad I don't have to drive in it. Although our car doors have been known to freeze shut occasionally in an ice storm.

  62. Hi Lynne, here, Down Under, it is Summer. We are lucky that so far it has been quite mild. We have had some scorching Christmas days. This year the forecast is for around 25C which is nice and comfy! My favourite Seasons are Autumn (Fall) and Spring. I still prefer Winter to Summer though as I can't seem to cope with real hot weather as I get older. :) Where I live, we don't get snow although it does snow at times on the Barrington Tops north of Newcastle, where I live. We are just 100 miles north of Sydney.
    Merry Xmas from Sandy. :)

  63. I grew up in Pennsylvania and live in California now. I don't miss the cold but I
do miss the seasons. Fall is my favorite time of year. It's not too cold and the colors are beautiful! I love when it snows and the look of fresh fallen snow but not the cold. I don't enjoy pumping gas and having my mitten stick to the nozel. LOL! Bridgidk@verizon.net

  70. I'm not really a cold weather gal, more of a cool weather gal. I definitely don't do hot but not ice and snow, either, and we get both here. Thankfully, not long or often, but sometimes. The cities here are really good about clearing major streets but not residential so I can't go anywhere when we have ice or snow. Perfect for quilting!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I used to love the cold weather, but as I have gotten older I love our mild winters here in Florida. When I do visit the north I like to go for walks and cuddle up in front of a cozy fireplace.

  76. Sadly, I have never lived where there is snow and I think it would be nice in so many ways..I can imagine you sitting on that sofa tucked up in that rather cosy-looking quilt supping a piping hot brew, dreaming up some lovely new patterns to bless us with. Outside that big bay window, (newly glazed and rendered glare-free)inspiring white snow scenes which probably include children playing with snowmen set the tone for your creative processes or maybe just a pleasant back-ground music for that book you can't put down? I would swap places with you in heartbeat..and be found wearing ugg boots all year round if I could.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I can go both ways. Once I make myself get outside I love being outside (provided it isn't bitter, bitter cold) in the cold stomping through the snow in the woods. However, I also love snuggling in at home in front of a fire if I can get away with that. What a wonderful view out your window.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I would love a snow day assuming my family was all home safely. Hot chocolate by the fire, a book or some stitching sounds good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Here in southern AL where I live, if we have snow -rarely happens - everything shuts down!

    ReplyDelete
  80. i like nothing better than a goood book, a flannel quilt, and of course some chocolate on cold snowy days. the snow makes the world seem so peaceful.

A good movie and some popcorn is another of my favorite snow day activities. (looks like my activities must have snacks...hmmmm.

  81. Oh WOW - look at all of that wonderful snow! Here in northern Nevada we've had a very stubborn high pressure sitting over us for a good month and haven't received a drop of moisture - very unusual. In fact, the weatherman thinks it will be around 53 degrees with lots of sunshine on Christmas Day. I love to quilt and bake this time of year with lots of nasty, wet weather going on outside, so the nice weather has thrown me for a loop. We sure could use some of your snow!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I like hiking in the snowy woods. thanks for the peek out your window.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I enjoy watching the snow if everyone is home and safe. I don't enjoy it so much when I or my family are driving around in the snow!

The patterns look like so much fun!

A warm fire, chocolate, and games to play are my idea of fun on a snowy day.

  88. One time in grade school we made a huge snowman. It was so big had to roll his head up a board to get it on top. A time to remember. Now we need a round "about" with snowmen so we can make snowmen at the sewing machine.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Lovely patterns. Love your view...grandchild included...Oh how I wish mine were here right now!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Beautiful sight out your window. I don't mind winter as long as I don't have to drive on snowy or ice-covered roads. We used to live in Montana and when it snowed it was so beautiful--big snowflakes and snow-covered trees. I guess wherever you live there is beauty if you just look for it.

I would love to win the patterns. I think I would use them to make gifts using material from my stash. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Love the snow! Love huge snowflakes falling from the sky, the glistening and sparkles when the sun hits it just right all from the inside of my familyroom with the fireplace going non-stop and hot chocolate! Thanks for the chance - I love those patterns!

  92. I'm a cold girl, lol. Wish we can have snow in my country though :S

  93. Yes, I'm a cold weather gal because my naturally curly hair and humidity don't play well together. Every winter, I look forward to sledding. We bundle up the grandkids, fill our thermos with hot water, pack hot chocolate and cups, grab our camera and we're out the door looking for a long snowy hill. We don't have snow yet this year (central Iowa) so I'm hoping we have a couple of good snow storms so we can plan a day of sledding.

  94. Lynne, Thankfully our winters down under aren't as cold as yours and we don't often see snow around our parts, but I like nothing better than sitting on the couch, with a cat on my lap and hand stitching. Thanks for your give away generosity. I would love to win any of these cute little patterns. Julie

  98. I am from Santa Cruz, CA. Cold weather for us is low 30's, and rarely it might get to upper 20's.
The few times it has snowed here (about every 8-10 yrs) everyone goes outside to get a look at the snow before it goes away.
Today I had breakfast at the Crows Nest, right next to the harbor and watched the dredger at work.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I love snow, and I try to make myself like to think that I am a cold weather person, but truthfully, I am an in between girl! I enjoy mountain biking with my family. :)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Yes, I am with you. I enjoy watching the cold and snow from inside the house. I was born and raised in Minnesota, so have done my share of ice skating, sledding, and snowball fights. However, I live in California now and don't miss the snow!

    ReplyDelete
  101. After 46 years in Michigan, shovelling snow, falling in the snow, and playing in the snow, I moved to Oregon, where I can see the snow on the mountain peaks all year long, but the only snow we get usually melts before you can make more than a few snowballs. Bonus: Rosebushes are still blooming RIGHT NOW!

    ReplyDelete
  102. I love to watch the snow with a quilt and a book and the two cats. I love the little patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I love the snow as it's falling. I even like to go out & walk in it, hearing the "snow crunch" and I take each step. However, after it starts to melt & it goes through the melt/freeze/melt/freeze pattern, it gets icy and dirty and that's when I start hating it. I'm in SW Washington and we normally get snow 1-2 times/year, but it doesn't stay around long most times. When it does, we're normally stuck at home for 3-6 days.... (and it's normally 1/2" of ice over 6-10" of snow at that point).

Love the mini table-treats patterns!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Like you, I too liked to see the snow through a window with a quilt cover and good book. But I don't have to deal with that too often as we go to Florida most winters. Don't hate!! thank for the opp to win.

  105. We have no snow yet here where we live which is very unusual. We will probably have a green Christmas.I love your Mini Mats and will be buying a pattern or two or three or.......Merry Christmas

  106. I hate snow. Now that I live in Kentucky, I only see it for a short time. That makes me happy. I love your table toppers. Thanks for the chance to win.

  107. I love playing in the snow with the grandchildren. Helping them make snowmen masterpieces (at least they are to us) means we have spent a wonderful day together. On those cold and dreary winter days when I am by myself, hand work is what I love with a nice hot cup of coffee. Thanks for the chance to win. Love your mini mats and would be fun to make.

  109. I haver lived in snow country most of my adult life and have shoveled, dealt with frozen locks, driving issues, car engine heaters and can say without hesitation that I love it through the window as well. Thanks for a chance to win.

  110. I like to watch snow fall when I'm at home. I like to feel warm and safe in my home, not out driving in it! But cold weather or cool weather is always my reason to be able to quilt more. We have a beautiful sitting area where I love to sit and work. I'd love to be sitting there working on the adorable table treats! Happy Holidays!

  111. Being in Arkansas, we don't usually get large amounts of snow at any time, usually just 1-3". And that's fine with me. I like looking at it, but it would be fine with me if it just was like rain and pretty much disappeared as soon as it hit the ground!

  112. I am a sunshine lover. The only thing I like about winter is that I have more time to sew since the weeding is done for a few months.

  113. I am a warm weather gal! I live in central Oklahoma and we do sometimes get the extremes of winter cold and summer heat! We set a new record this summer for the number of days over 100 degrees! We don't have a lot of snow storms, but the Christmas Eve blizzard of 2009 served as a reminder that we can get some really bad winter weather! My favorite winter activity is curling up with a good book inside or working on a quilting project! Thanks for all the lovely give-aways!

  114. When we were young, hubby and I prayed for snow, so we could go snowmotbiling with our friends. Now, I like the look of snow but not the cold. I'd just as soon stay inside and stay warm quilting or stitching. Love those new patterns-perfect for gifts. Send one my way, please.

  116. I am definitely an in-door gal. I sunburn in the summer and don't like winter chill, so my favorite spot is indoors. Hubby set up a bird feeder and bird bath outside the windows by my computer so when I'm not sewing I'm bird and squirrel watching. Yesterday there was a pair of cardinals taking turns at the seeds. The bush below was still snow covered and the male sitting there waiting his turn was simply beautiful.

  120. I'm with you, Lynne. We had about a foot of snow today and it's just beautiful. I have been comfy inside watching it come down.
