KT Winner, KT Reopening & a Poll

KT Winner

The winner of my A Few Little Extras pattern is...

Beth -You've spread a lot of happiness in twenty years, and been a part of many quilters's stories. That is quite a legacy.
Thanks, Beth! And thanks to everyone who commented. I loved reading each one. Your support and encouragement at this time means more than ever. I'm able to sew more because I can't travel and teach or hold retreats, but I really miss the feedback at a trunk show or workshop. Your comments help me know if I'm on the right track or need to change course in the future, whether designing fabric or quilts. Please don't hesitate to comment anytime, or email me directly at lynne@ktquilts.com if you have a question. We love hearing from you.

The Poll

In fact, I have a couple questions for you:

If you're at home now, sewing more than ever, are you using your stash? Or buying fabric online?

When do you plan to venture out to a quilt shop? In the next couple weeks, or later?

Would you feel comfortable going to a quilting retreat with a large group in August if conditions improve? Or do you plan to stay home through the summer?

Comment on these questions and have a chance to win a new Sweet Holly Charm and mini charm.

KT Quilt Shop to Reopen by Appt. June 2nd

Beginning Tuesday, June 2nd, Robert and Joy will be available by appointment at the KT Quilt Shop. Hours are Tuesday thru Friday 10-5, and Saturday 10-3. We're starting with a "slow" opening to ensure everyone's health and safety and make sure our precautions are working.

Here are a few guidelines if you wish to come visit the KT Quilt Shop:

1. Please call ahead 785-488-2120.

2. Please wear a mask.

3. Please follow social distancing guidelines while in the store. We are limiting our shoppers to 6 in the store at a time.

We will have hand sanitizer available, and will clean surfaces between customers.

We hope to see you all soon! If you can't come to the store, check out everything KTQ at ktquilts.com. Follow me on Instagram at @lynnektq.

  2. My work schedule has not changed so I’m sewing about the same or less since I make masks when needed. I use my stash for those. Probably not going to a quilt shop anytime soon. Unsure about an August retreat. Kind of waiting to see what is happening this summer with people going places. We have a trip planned to the Missouri Star Birthday Bash and we are still deciding on that.

  3. 1) both, but mostly finishing UFOs
    2) in next couple of weeks, masked
    3) no, August too early for large groups

  4. I sewing a lot from my stash right now and if I need fabric I'm buying it online.
But overall I don't buy as much fabric as I did before because seeing and touching and matching fabrics IRL is a huge deal for me. But I don't think I'll visit a quilt shop soon.
Don't know about a retreat in August perhaps yes if the situation is a lot better but I live in Germany and the situation is already better here and we are about 3 weeks ahead of you. If you can't do a retreat how about a fun sew-along perhaps aska few other bloggers/designers if they wanna join in. I remember last year you made a charm pack sew-along with a few other Moda designers and I made your pattern this year with B&C fabrics it's a super cute quilt thanks for the pattern.

  5. I'm finishing up old WIPs and sewing from stash, but found I was needing background fabrics so have bought some basics online. It's cynical of me, but trying to anticipate now what I might need to last through another potential shut-down in the fall. Here in Ontario Canada, retail shops with a street-front entrance (not in a mall) are officially allowed to open as of just this week. But most quilt shops local to me (1 hour outside Toronto) have made the personal decision not to open yet, despite the economic impact. About 20% are accepting appointments for 1 customer in the store at a time. I do miss fondling the fabrics! Even though the situation is better here, I would definitely not be comfortable participating in a large group event of any sort by August. Stay safe!

  6. First - thank you for keeping all of us quilters in a happy place when we read your e-mails.
    1. Using from Stash
    2. Later - probably mid-July
    3. MP - August is too early - I want to be able to go and enjoy the company of the other quilters. Hopefully there will be a time when no masks are needed. I wear them as it is the safe action to do; however, feel very restrictive.

  7. I'm using fabric from my stash right now. I am mostly working on UFO's so I have the fabric already. If I need fabric or supplies I most likely will order online. Even though the state has reopened, my lqs hasn't yet reopened. I probably won't visit in person until late July or early August. I don't usually do retreats or in person classes, but if I were to, I would wait until fall at the earliest.

  8. With a little more free time this late winter, I was finally able to pull out some fabric precuts I had purchased long ago and start sewing the quilts I had planned. My daughter is also using all the scraps I've saved through the years. I'm not planning to purchase any more fabric right now. I have thought about going to a quilt retreat in recent years, but I would not go to one this year because of the virus.

  9. I am using from my stash and loving it. I would go to my local quilt store if in need of something. I am not ready to attend a retreat in the near future. I understand the Wisconsin Quilt Expo in September will be virtual this year so if they don't think we are ready for large crowds I am ok with that.

  10. Most of what I'm sewing comes from my stash, though truth be told, I'm not sewing all that much. The weather here has (finally!) gotten warm so I spend most of my time in the garden. It'll be a while before I go to a quilt shop, probably not in the next few months. And I've never been to a retreat and this probably isn't the best time to start :).

  11. Mostly using my stash. I have been to three local quilt shops that have been open due to having elastic and fabric for patient gowns. I have a retreat scheduled in August but it will be under 20 people. I'll wear my mask and take hand sanitizer with me, unless this comes around a second time and then I'll stay home.

  12. 1. Using stash, mostly sewing masks and UFOs
    2. Not going into a quilt shop anytime soon, I'm high risk
    3. Will not be going where groups of people are gathered

  13. Sewing from my stash but did place in online order. I'll try a local quilt store probably in July. I'm registered for your retreat with Jenny Doan in Pittsburgh at the end of August. I think with the large group expected it will be uncomfortable to attend. I feel that this summer is a wash. Next summer will be busy with retreats and family outings! I hope you and your family stay well! I can't wait to see the Sweet Holly fabric in person!

  14. UFO sewing here. And so far no plans to shop other than for necessities. A public meeting in August would not happen in my family at this time point. I'm living with an immunocompromised person.

    Using Stash

Retreat in August with 30 or less people.

  16. Hi Lynne,

If you're at home now, sewing more than ever, are you using your stash? Or buying fabric online?
    - I'm using my stash but buying online from the many quilt shops which have held FB live events.

When do you plan to venture out to a quilt shop? In the next couple weeks, or later?
    - In the next couple of weeks - maybe. Honestly, I don't want to wear a mask, so if it's required, I will go to another shop. Our state's shop hop starts in June so we'll see what that brings. It will be interesting.

Would you feel comfortable going to a quilting retreat with a large group in August if conditions improve? Or do you plan to stay home through the summer?
-Yes, I feel comfortable in going to a quilting retreat. In fact, I would welcome the opportunities to attend one if possible.

  17. I am working on a graduation quilt for my granddaughter but plan to use my stash, however still doing ordering on line. If you like it and don't get it the fabric will be gone and you might regret it. My local quilt shop has a BOM at Pinwheel and I will venture out next week. The retreats being enclosed areas makes me cautious. It is a wait and see as I am one of the 70 year old with 3 of the 4 things who should not go out. Not taking chances.

  18. 1. I have been using a lot of my stash making masks for staff members at a senior assisted living facility where I work.
    2. Have ordered fabric online in the last couple months from KT for the Five and Dime pattern.
    3. I live in a rural area in Colorado and the fabric shop in the nearby town has remained open. I have visited there once in the last month in search of mask supplies. I wore a mask as did the owner. I was the only customer in the shop at the time, but she said her business had done very well recently. She stayed open because many in the County were making masks for first responders and essential grocery workers. She also offered private shopping for one customer at a time by appointment if needed.
    4. I think a group retreat with more than 10 or 15 people would be difficult in this time when everyone is concerned.

  19. I’m sewing at home, using stash, ordering online and I’m ready to go to shops with few employees and patrons. Not interested in retreating at all this year!

  20. I am still full time employed, albeit joined to my office electronically, but I'm looking forward to retirement at the end of August. I am sewing a bit more since I don't have commute time mostly finishing already begun projects along with way too many masks.
I have ventured out to my local quilt store for a specialty ruler and some SM needles wearing a mask. The store was limiting the number of people in the store and they were wearing masks also.
I optimistically expect things to be fairly normal by August since they say this virus will go like the flu and be gone in the summer heat. I will still be watching though to be sure as I am in a vulnerable population demographic. I have a reservation for a quilting bus trip in Texas, postponed from May, so I really hope it's all good by then.
Thanks for your sew along during this hunker down time. I love KT fabrics and designs.

  21. I just finished a quilt with all of my KT scraps. Love it. Would really like to go to a quilt shop but am a little leery. We live in one of the big hot spots. But hopefully we will all be able to go back to our lives and be able to shop till we drop with all of our beautiful fabric. I will not be able to go to a retreat this year.

  22. I visited a quilt shop in OK recently, and it was wonderful!!! (I actually wanted to stop at your place, but you were closed. Was bummed) I've been sewing with stash and new. (Been stitching a lot too) For right now, I'd prefer to "retreat" with a group I know. Take care!

  23. I am working full time remotely and when I am sewing these days I am using up my stash - feels good to to that and get unfinished projects worked on! I have ordered on line some items I needed to finish the above. No plans on venturing out anytime soon. I will not be going to any retreats / gatherings that are larger groups this year. Thank you!!

  24. 1. I have been busy making masks from my stash. Now that that has slowed down some, I have been using my stash to make things for the house and Christmas gifts.
    2. I will go to our quilt shop when they re-open. Havent heard when that will be.
    3. I plan to stay home this summer. Because we have missed so much (easter, birthday parties, etc) a lot of it will be going on this summer and already have dates planned for July and August. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net

  25. I have been trying to use my stash as much as possible since I have so much fabric. But since I had to order a few items for mask making, I ordered a small amount of fabric also - to make the shipping worthwhile - or at least, that's what I told myself. I would love to go to a quilt shop if there were any open, but there aren't any near me. As for a retreat in August, I would love to as long as everyone followed the protocol for safety.

  26. I am mostly using my stash. I have picked up one order curbside from a local quilt shop and have placed a couple of small online orders. The three closest quilt shops to me are holding off on reopening, but after they open, I will probably go only if I really need something. I would not be comfortable attending a summer retreat with a large group.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have done curbside pickup from my local quilt store a couple of times, but mostly anything new came through the mail with my own stash supporting all but a few promects. I think I would be OK going to my local shop soon as long as we're all wearing masks and keeping social distancing. I'm not so sure about a large retreat at this time. Perhaps a local one where I went home at night and a reduced number of folks to start with.

  28. Hello KT,. I have plenty of fabric/Kit's.. unless I need something then will go out or online. Been making masks so my quilt sewing has slowed down. Still working so with covid & work just so many issues, rules etc.
Quilt retreat in Aug - covid -19 to travel / healthy then come down w/covid 19 . what does a person do stay at retreat or are you able to travel home?. I'm ok to wait till next year.. truly wonderful event last year in KS.. more to come... Christmas fabric yes my next purchase !! Be safe & take care

  29. I have been using my stash, but I have ordered online. There is a quilt along I want to participate in and use my KT fabrics. I used a lot of my red and green KT fabric on a scrappy quilt so I replenished that. I am missing shopping in person, I have been to the closest quilt shop to me a couple of weeks ago, wearing a mask and socially distancing. As for the retreat, if I knew the attendees and knew they had been careful I wouldn’t have any problem. They are now saying hand washing is the key to avoiding the virus and keeping your hands off your face.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mostly using my stash. I have been to one local shop. Wearing mask and only one customer in the shop at the same time.
I’m signed up for retreat in Appleton. Very hesitant about going on bus and sitting close to others who may not be doing masking/social distancing.

  31. Mostly I'm using stash. However, I have ordered a couple things on line. I don't have a problem going to a quilt shop if I need something to finish a project I'm working on. I'm happy staying home. In fact, I plan to stay home thru the rest of the summer.

  32. I am lucky to be able to still work full time from home. In between though I have been doing a whole lot of quilting. I just said the other night to a friend that it is Kansas Troubles that got me through and continues to get me through these trying times and keep my crazy in check! I pieced the Christmas Cactus Charm pack quilt from my stash but have also been keeping up with the KT BOM and Star Cluster (3" stars, Lynne, really???!!!)

As far as a retreat, I might be okay with being in a class but getting there is another issue. I was disappointed that the June retreat was cancelled but I would have needed to fly in and I'm not sure I am ready for that quite yet.

Thanks Lynne for helping me keep my crazy in check the last 2 months!!!

  33. I have been using my stash. I probably will go to a quilting store in the next month. Probably not plan to go to a retreat with a large group just yet -- I want to see how things play out a little first. I am not sure about group travel!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have been using stash and buying online, but only what I need. I don't know about retreats yet, will have to see how things are between now and then.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1) using my stash

    2) I buy my fabric online.

    3) I would go if I could.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Both stash and online. I've been to a quilt shop once and I'd like to go to the Iowa Shop Hop, but we'll see what the Covid numbers look like. I'd be interested in a retreat if Covid is over.
